I agree with asking someone, I am not a fan on translation tools because a lot of the time, the context is not understood. Unless the person translating it understands the context.

Seconded!! This is exactly what I feel, need super difficult dragon battles... A Nevarran DLC is not bad, or just say Cass' relatives come dragon hunting for several reasons. Or someone release an army of possessed dragons, that can make a great story & great many dragons

 

Or the villain is another mage with the power to control dragons like in Dawn of the Seeker?

 

Actually, as I said somewhere else on the forums, I was really gutted when I heard that Elven Tranquil in Haven talk about how she no longer "talks to Dragons", which makes me think that she probably is that poor elven girl from that movie? Her age would fit as well, since she looks like she's in her mid-twenties and it'd make sense that given her history with Cassandra, she would have taken her in after the Circle's fell?

 

It just makes me wonder, did the Chantry turn her Tranquil because of her power and the chaos it caused, or did she ask for it because of severe PTSD from everything that happened to her in that movie? If it was punishment, it makes it worse, since it was hardly her fault what happened... and unlike Connor who went through the same thing with the demon, she didn't have a super-important father to stop her getting the brand?

 

And some of her comments about unpleasant things that happened to her after her Tranquility, make me even more sad for the poor girl...

I'm not sure if it's confirmed that that's Avexis, or whatever her name was, but the fandom seems to think so. Kinda sad if they tranquilized her as a precautionary measure. Then again, she seemed pretty traumatized by her experiences in DotS.

Yeah, she might have chosen Tranquility, because she was pretty much catatonic by the end of that film? It does make you wonder why Cass lied about it, saying that the mages who helped where rewarded, but I could see her omitting that one detail because it was too painful to think about?

Your words in Russian -> TBH, I don't think so, not 100% at least. Subtle nuances are... very hard to translate, some elements can't be translated. Some idioms simply doesn't exist in other languages. For example in a language I know there are two ways to refer "You", either the more formal one, or the familiar one. So something in English translated to this language always... add some weird interpretation of the translator. So it depends on how good your translator are, how good he/she understands the context & your story.

 

Does your story contains lots of subtle nuances of languages? If it's a more bash & kill actions, I wouldn't worry if I were you. If it contains lots of idioms, subtle choices of phrases & words, well...

 

You know, even in-game the translation's not always follow word by word. Apparently in French Alistair's famous line "Have you ever lick a lamp post in winter" becomes something like "Have you ever run naked on the snow". That changes a lot... Because for me "lick a lamp post in winter" also have some...other NSFW meaning (maybe I have more NSFW thoughts than AListair).

Thanks! I tend to run past Giselle fairly quickly so I may have missed it. I can see Cass leaving out that detail just because it would be complicated to try to explain, especially if it was thought to be a kindness to her.

Thanks for the recommendations! I haven't drawn in years...since I started up my photography. But I do want to design my own back piece, which will be a black Friesian Pegasus of some sort. I'm not sure if I want two fighting, one on either shoulder, or one flying out of the center of my back. 

 

That sounds like an epic back piece I hope you'll find the time to do it I've been thinking about a back piece for myself as well - two herons. Now that I de-mothballed my tablet, I might actually get going on the design. I looove tattoos   I like it even better if there is a story behind them. So, I haven't gotten any yet because I did not really have anything significant to commemorate. Until a couple of years ago, that is. Oh, God, but it goes the other way around too. Translating from Russian to English sounds so awkward! I've been reading Metro 2033, and I cannot help but picture all the characters speaking with strong Russian accents. They sound exactly like my husband, whenever he ends up translating some saying from Russian, and it sounds all wrong in English... I really admire people who are able to do a natural sounding translation of literature

Not weird at all I love horses. In fact, when I was still a toddler, I'd make a big fuss whenever I saw a horse on the street (yes, I was born in a country where horses are a pretty common sight). I'd want to pet them Then my grandparents had horses on their farm, and I'd want to ride them, but with no saddle, I had quite the experience... So, I totally understand what you mean  

 

You should share your tattoo design once you have it ready I'm sure it will look great

Hey you guys - I had a dream last night about Cullen and the game! 

 

I was the Inquisitor, but it was modern times, and for some reason we were traveling and staying in a nice hotel.  Cullen was not my LI but I had a huge crush on him and there was definitely some sparks, he and I and someone else (I can't remember) were sharing a room.  I came into the room to look for him while the third person was out and found him in bed with three other ladies, I guess he'd picked up at the bar?  I was super embarrassed and left, but thought something was off because that really isn't like him.  I go back in after a bit, the ladies are leaving, he's standing there and he smiles, but then he start saying some really wicked things and gets all demonic and creepy.  I grab his shoulders and I say "Cullen!  It's me! What's happened?", stuff like that.  Then he goes back to his "normal" self, just for a few secs, and he apologizes and gives me this huge desperate hug, really confused.  Then he turns "evil" again.  In the dream suddenly a quest prompt thing pops up explaining that I have to find the three rings and solve a puzzle to break the curse.  I start poking around the room, in drawers, on the floor, find each ring, put them on.  Meanwhile Cullen is ranting and acting like all demonic, I wish I could remember what he was saying.  So I have all rings, I grab him, some magicky stuff swirls around, then a puzzle pops up, a jumbled image with sliders. I have to rearrange the image, it's his face wearing his lion helm.  At this point, I wake up (stupid dog!).  Crazy!

R2, the Russian translation of fanfic seems to be a ... thing... that just... happens in the fanfic world lol I have had people ask me, too; the first time I said no, and a couple years later, a reader informed me that my stories had been translated in Russian and were on a Russian website; I was, thankfully, credited, but it turns out it didn't matter that I hadn't given my permission. Ever after that, I just say yes, sure, because it's sort of an out of sight, out of mind situation. And hey, additional people are getting to read it. It's not like I'm writing Shakespeare here lol

Around here horses are pretty much a sign of $$$ since they cost an ungodly amount of money to care for. I was lucky enough to have one growing up for several years, but my parents had to give her away because they couldn't afford her anymore. I used to do shows and whatnot in a 4H club. 

 

My problem is that I can draw pretty much any animal from a reference photo. But taking pieces (horse in the right pose and wings from a swan, etc) and building something from scratch, like a Pegasus...I have no idea how I will do it.

LOL Just saw this. Um, it's not quite what it sounds like. At least, the first one, Chocolate and Sex, isn't. The sequel, Sex and Chocolate by Varric Tethras, um, is.

I’ve played through this game numerous times already and while I enjoy the Cullen Romance each time, I am still disappointed a few things that were over looked. (Going to put this in spoilers just in case).

The Fade:

 

Upon your return to Skyhold everyone seems to comment about this event in some form or another. However with Cullen (especially if you’re in a romance with him) says nothing at all about it. You are just thrown into his quest. Don’t get me wrong that quest is a pinnacle point in your relationship with him, but it could have been delayed until after you spoke to him upon your return.

 

If we look back in DA2, when Hawke lost her/his Mom your romance visited you to express his/her feelings-offer you some comfort.

 

Granted losing a parent is nowhere near as emotional as coming back from The Fade, but it’s still an emotional moment for The Inquisitor.

 

The Developers’ missed a huge opportunity here, especially for those in a romance with Cullen. If you look back in an early part of the game after “Hushed Whispers/Champions of the Just,” you have a conversation with Josephine.

 

Josephine needs to send a report to The Chantry about if the inquisition supports your claims about being The Herald of Andraste. By choosing, “What would you say?” Josephine responds, “If Cullen, Leliana, Cassandra and I could agree, I could answer that.”

 

If it was not made obvious before this conversation it should be made crystal clear that Cullen does in fact have his own opinions on what he thinks you are. Coming back after The Fade and finding out the truth could or could not have changed Cullen’s views.

 

I for one find it mind boggling that the developers’ overlooked a key part.

 

Developer 1: “We should put in a cut scene about The Inquisitor coming back from The Fade and speaking to Cullen-especially if the player is in a romance with him. It is after all an important part and it would make sense.”

 

Developer 2:  “Nah. (Thinks for a moment) Oh! I got it! Instead of using our time and resources for that, how about we make a quest to where the player has to walk a Druaffalo or Halla back to the owner?”

 

Developer 2: “Hmm. I like it! But let’s put both of those in game. I suppose adding in the conversation I suggested would be silly.’

 

Developer 1: "No, it would not be silly, it is silly."

 

 

 A Gift:

 

I for am frustrated and annoyed how you cannot give Cullen a gift. Oh sure people who romance, Cassandra, Iron bull, Dorian or whomever else can give these people gifts. However you cannot give Cullen a gift. W.T.F.?

 

Yes, Cullen gives your character a gift, but it does not mean you cannot return the favor. It is not that difficult to come up with ideas on what to give Cullen as a gift much less when to give it to him.

 

After the quest “Perseverance” a quest pop-up, I don’t know; let’s call it, “Commanding the heart.”  You’ll be given a quest to get Cullen a gift. You have a choice; you can either make him a new sword or a new shield. Go to a merchant in Val R. and purchase the schematic. Go back to Skyhold and make the shield or the sword however you want. As a bonus on the shield or sword it will say, “Though darkness closes, I am shielded by love.”  Go to Cullen, click on him and a cut scene plays out.

 

Hell as it is now, I have to head-cannon, the "Sparring Ring" is a gift to Cullen from my Inquisitor. <Shakes head>.

 

Information on a dialogue option:

 

During the conversation with Cullen, right before sexy time, you have three options, two of which are to break off the romance. By click on the option to “Choose a future with Cullen” the information box about this dialogue choice says, “Start a romance with Cullen.” Um, why do I want to start a romance with Cullen when we have been together several game moments back?

 

I’ve seen videos on YouTube of the other romances. Pulling Iron Bull’s romance out of the lot, I noticed the text box above the dialogue says, “Commit to a relationship with Iron Bull.” So why could those of us who romanced Cullen get the same, “Commit to a romance with Cullen” during this stage?

 

I for one was completely confused after sexy time if Cullen and my Inquisitor were now locked in the relationship or there was a chance to break it off. Granted, I had no intention of breaking off the relationship, but, I still wanted to know if it was possible.

 

Eventually I got the answer by asking people, but I should not have needed to if the text information about the dialogue was clear on what I was choosing.

 

Yes, this may sound like a minor issue to some, but for me, it’s annoying.

 

Again, the Cullen romance was/is good, but it does not mean it was without some major issues.

 

Alas, I have ranted on long enough.
