Around here horses are pretty much a sign of $$$ since they cost an ungodly amount of money to care for. I was lucky enough to have one growing up for several years, but my parents had to give her away because they couldn't afford her anymore. I used to do shows and whatnot in a 4H club.

My problem is that I can draw pretty much any animal from a reference photo. But taking pieces (horse in the right pose and wings from a swan, etc) and building something from scratch, like a Pegasus...I have no idea how I will do it.

I'd recommend using Photoshop to cobble a picture together. It might not be correct, but it will give you a rough idea of how to go about it. That's my approach towards more involved pieces. The piece below is one of the few where I actually spent significant effort on the background (I am not very fond of landscapes). To get that atmosphere, I used several reference photos that I mixed and matched in PS. It made things sooo much easier, and I was happy with the result :) The two characters were from separate reference photos also. I just cut them together, resized, and voila: siblings :D

I’ve played through this game numerous times already and while I enjoy the Cullen Romance each time, I am still disappointed a few things that were over looked. (Going to put this in spoilers just in case).

Spoiler

Alas, I have ranted on long enough.

I agree with the Fade part, so so much.  Really bums me out the more I think about it.  That and after the Temple of Mythal, definitely should have had some conversations.  I too was a bit confused by the romance prompt, should have said "commit" or whatever.

Good point about having a conversation after the Temple, especially if you chose to play in the kiddy pool.

Yeah, that's what I meant.  I just finished a PT where I drank for the first time, and I was really disappointed he doesn't say anything except for a brief comment in the war room, which may happen even if you're not romancing him.  I'm sure both of these oversights were due to the fact that they ran out of time. I keep reading that he wasn't going to be romanceable, then they got an extra year, then they ran out of time to make him romanceable for both sexes.  I'm sorry I can't recall, what pinnacle relationship thing happens right after you return from the fade?

That reminds me. That quote Cullen says in The War Room, after you drink, does he only say that if your in a romance with him?

He was one of the two added romances. Which still surprises me, since his feels the most complete (in my opinion). I guess it could be attributed to the fact that he's also an advisor so you have a lot of screen time with him compared to the others.

Hey, can I ask you guys a question about Tumblr?

For ha-ha's I did a search for Cullen and within the first 5min I found what looks to be two of my flycam shots (what's worse is they've been color-altered). Are there any guidelines around that stuff? I know with artwork it's a taboo, but what about screenshots? I can understand simple cutscene shots (anybody can grab the same shot), but flycam shots are a bit different. It's very hard to completely replicate the same angle 100%. Screenarchers put a lot of work into that sort of thing that I would hazard to say it could be construed as art.

Thoughts?

Especially in direct comparison to the other added romance.

LOL Just saw this. Um, it's not quite what it sounds like. At least, the first one, Chocolate and Sex, isn't. The sequel, Sex and Chocolate by Varric Tethras, um, is. :)

Totally read them.   **gulp**

Mmm....more Cullen screen time...

Hmm, I'm pretty new to the Tumblrverse myself. I've creeped off and on but just now got more involved with this game. You might want to reblog the post and credit yourself, or contact the source who posted it by sending private ask, asking them where they got the image.

I'd say this is gray (grey?) territory. I've seen battles erupt on Tumblr over screenshots, resulting in DA confessions making a policy to only ever use their own screenshots to avoid issues (and those were vanilla screenshots). Personally, I've seen my own screenshots from swaps I've done ganked all over the fandom without attribution. Did they take a lot of work for me to do? Often.  But, on the other hand, it's just a screenshot and not something I would "sign" my  name to necessarily, so I just roll with it and smile.

I have no advice for you other than... I think it would be an uphill battle to make an issue of it.

Cullen and Solas were only added as romances because of the year extension.

I wouldn't even know how to do that. I don't "blog."

It's just aggravating, especially since they messed around with the colors. The shot in question is this one:

Spoiler

I know it's mine because even the bokeh-blur in the back matches. To me these kind of shots are more than just "screenies." I've had to deal with this with my photography as well, but that's more cut and dry than this. Plus, with my photography, I put a giant watermark in the middle.

Yeah! That is aggravating. That is a gem and for someone to just grab it like that...ugh. At least give the person who grabbed it due credit. I would...fight for it. But that's me though. A random screenshot...meh. But this, I wouldn't. Ultimately, it is up to you.

And stop with those shots please. They make my blood pressure spike up  :P

I am very very new to tumblr (and it seems to be a slightly scary, emotional place for a lot of people!) but many of the blogs have an 'ask' function where you can send a private message to the blog owner.  It might be worth you contacting the person who posted the shot to ask them to credit you.  You should even be able to ask anonymously, if you want to do it that way.

I'm not 100% sure if you'd need an account to send an ask or not, though.  I only joined to follow artists since a lot of people seem to have moved from dA to tumblr.

You could always send an ask to the tumblr in question and ask them to credit you. You could also consider adding a watermark somewhere in anything you post moving forward. These shots of yours are distinctive, so I see your quandary. It's particularly tough when they're first "published" on BSN, since folks tend to think of this as no man's land in terms of authorship (see: Adela's pic reposted on pinterest "I found this on the Bioware forums"). A watermark is pretty  much the only way to keep your name with your stuff.

On a more positive note, sometimes it results in improvements on the original, like this!

I don't know about Tumblr, but I do know that people from the Cullen thread on bioware.ru post my screenshots there without giving credit. I have mixed feelings on that, since they are just screenshots. On the other hand, working with flycam and a resolution of 3840x2400 for the high res shots makes for some seriously time consuming (and frustrating) screenshot sessions. My performance takes a nosedive, so I'm running at basically 2 fps, and my graphics driver will frequently crash, so some credit would always be appreciated.

No hard feelings, though! :D

I have no idea why people are moving away from dA...it's so much more user friendly and organized! To me Tumblr is about as organized as a pile of vomit on the floor...at least that's what it looks like to me...

Is it because on Tumblr you can post a bit of everything in one place? I'm not super experienced with DA but it's just for artwork, right? Not fanfic or random gifs.

I decided to stop putting my 4k-sized files online. Someone would have to ask me very nicely for them. I downsample in PS and then upload to Imgur for better screen-friendly sizes.

I completely understand the "grey" nature of this, but as you said...these screenshots are a bit different. My skills are improving and I can see it when I look at my older stuff to what I've done recently. I've started to be able to apply a lot of the rules I follow with my photography to taking "artistic" shots in-game.

*snip*

Would it be a no-no to put a watermark on an in-game screenshot like the ones I do?

I think it's easier to be seen on tumblr, which is also a fundamentally visual medium. Posts come to you through the viral network, as opposed to you having to go to the post on dA. Both are interesting creatures with pros and cons.

No, it's not just artwork. There's also quite a bit of fic there (like mine). But the format and ways to connecting with people are different.
