When? I know that the nobles in the Winter Palace do. But I never noticed elsewhere

I do! I run the game on max settings (including Fade Touched textures) and 4X MSAA @ 1080p. I used to run at 1440p with Ultra textures but since I've started to use Shadowplay a lot it's easier to not have to remember to drop to 1080p just to record. It also seems that the lip-syncing is better when not using DSR, even if my fps was fine. 

 

For screenshots, I use SWRE to "hot sample" so I can frame the shot at 1080p and then switch up to 4k or more on the fly to take the shot and then switch it back.

Hi all!  I too would like the answer to this question, as I don't recall hearing the messenger comments with Cullen and Cassandra that I keep reading about, after three playthroughs, and they are the two that I talk to the most.

 

How do I get to see all these goofy messenger things? Do I just have to hang out in his office for a long while?

The Josephine one I've had no problems with. Every time I see her there I just step over to the desk and wait a second. But I haven't been able to hear any of the Cullen ones.

Hi all!  I too would like the answer to this question, as I don't recall hearing the messenger comments with Cullen and Cassandra that I keep reading about, after three playthroughs, and they are the two that I talk to the most.

The hard way is to walk into their offices every time you come back to Skyhold and hang around if there's a messenger there until he or she starts talking (or says "On your order!" or something similar, which means you're not getting anything this time). This seemed a lot more effective on my first playthrough than on my current run, but I was also romancing Cullen on my first run and therefore much more motivated to visit him constantly.

So I have a favor to ask everyone. I am working on doing some Cullen writing and really have never ventured into the whole romance type writing before, so I want to ask those of you who do such, do you have any suggestions to help. I have done some really detailed ME stuff that was extremely mental decay/ stress of leadership of Shep kind of thing, but it always came out way to dark and somewhat brutal. I want to venture more into the the romance, playful and such, but am having a hard time even getting started. I did finally figure out my 2 leading ladies and their back stories which I will give a brief of below if you want to know and if you have any suggestions there as well would be cool too. I have a ton of artwork I have done of them and have finally decided to open a tumblr account to post it, but really wanna splice in some written stuff too. So feedback would be awesome, either on here or even message me if you like as well as all help is appreciated.

 

Bio/ info on my ladies are as follows:

 

Asharia Lavella is a Mage. We  know that the Dalish tribes come together and "trade" those with magic to become first to different tribes Keepers. Her line has had several Keepers and as such she has had family in many different tribes. She instantly felt a bond with Solas and realizes he would be exactly the type of man her family and tribe would want to see her with, but she can't deny the attraction to Cullen either. At one point she starts actively chasing Solas to try to force herself into loving him, but it seems like every time she forces Cullen out of her mind (or heart) something happens that brings him crashing into her again. They start to become good friends and one night they sit and talk about their history and Cullen tells her about his first love, the Elven HoF Mage who died fighting the Blight. He confesses how he has never allowed himself to be with anyone again because his last words to a woman who confessed her love to him were cruel and horrible and he never got to say how sorry he was to her.

 

Azura Trevelyan is a Templar Warrior. While the game doesn't give you the option of becoming a Templar until after Haven, in mine she was ready to become a full Templar right before the Conclave. However prior to it, her family and their close family Chantry ties decided to send her to help other family/friends there. Cullen doesn't know she was so close to becoming a templar until he confesses to her about him stopping lyrium. Seeing and hearing such, she begins to questions her own convictions on a lifetime of preparing for the moment of joining the templars. Never before had she ever had doubt and part of her hates him for causing such in her. Out of anger, she walks away from him and goes through with her training with Ser. After that she has a strange reaction to lyrium and is left very ill and all are worried if she will make it through it or what will happen if they lose the Herald. Solas feels the mark is what caused the strange reaction. Cullen blames himself that he "drove" her into a rash choice. Staying by her side he realizes his anger was due to being in love with her and wonders if he will lose her no matter what (either death or she will hate him for his part in all this).

 

Those are very early rough drafts, so I know lots of tweeking will need to be done. But hey, its a start.

I had a very dark background story for my Cousland. I'll put it in a spoiler tag cause it's violent.

She had been married off to a French Orlesian noble (political motivations) at 18. On their way to visit Highever, her and her husband were ambushed by Ferelden patriots. The Orlesian noble died, she was severely wounded, and suffered a miscarriage. Luckily, she was found and returned to Highever, where she stayed until conscripted. The experience hardened her.

 

 

Then the upside to the violent bit was that Ali brought her out of her shell

I really enjoy reading the backstory to people's characters.  This has elements similar to my rogue Trevelyan's backstory - she's my tragic one!  I'm no writer - please excuse the quality!

She's the youngest in her family, with four brothers who are much older with various roles in the family (two of them templars).  As a child, she had a twin brother.  They were inseparable, she was the happy, outgoing child to his dark and broody nature.  

One birthday they were given a wooden horse as a present. Her brother wanted the toy, but Evie refused to give it to him and ran away.  An angry child, he shouted after her and chased her, and then suddenly the horse caught fire in her hands, burning her severely and leaving her with scars that she still carries to this day.  With their siblings in the Templars, both children knew the consequences if anyone found out about Aryn's magical talent, and after he apologised profusely and begged her to stay silent, she did, helping him to hide his tendencies.  

As they grow older, Aryn's temper grows and he becomes more and more withdrawn, forcing the siblings apart.  Evie is her fathers daughter, and one evening as he tutors the twins in their family history, their easy camarderie angers Aryn.  He draws his magic to him, and to their horror, his features contort and he whirls towards them.  He father pushes Evie away just in time as the thing that was Aryn attacks him viciously, ignoring his cries.  He tries to fend him off but doesn't want to hurt his son.  Evie, watching in fear, can see that this is no longer Aryn.  She snatches her father's dagger from the desk where he uses it to open his mail and runs to the pair, stabbing the abomination repeatedly, sobbing uncontrollably, until eventually it drops to the floor, dead.  

The episode divides the family.  The religious family cannot possibly reveal that their child was an apostate, so a story is told that he did from consumption.  Evie's mother cannot bear to look at the girl who killed her son, and her father grows distant and cold, disappointed that she did not tell the truth. Evie is desperate to make amends but is unable to break through to her parents and becomes isolated and withdrawn.  At fifteen, Evie is informed that she is to be married to a 30 year old minor noble in Tantervale.  Her protests fall on deaf ears and she is quickly married and moves to Tantervale to live with her husband. Over the first year of their marriage, he reveals himself to be violent and abusive, and Evie falls prey to his manipulative ways.  Her only respite is her role within the Chantry - it's the only place he will allow her to go alone - and eventually she makes a friend there who forces her to confront her predicament.  Her friend trains her in daggers - weapons small enough to be concealed - and stealth.  At 19, Evie makes her escape.  For the next ten years, she spends time around the Free Marches, living hand to mouth, taking on jobs for the Chanter's boards, wanting to go home to her family but scared to return to Ostwick for fear of her husband finding her.  Then, word of the Conclave comes about.  She knows her family's role in the Chantry means they will be there.  15 years after she last saw them, Evie sets out to meet her family in Haven to try to rebuild their relationship.

 

Gives me lots of role playing backstory/headcannoning/reasons!
