It's all about vowel rotation. Cahfee would have a much flatter sounding a (think cat), while cawfee is probably written that way in order to emphasize an exaggerated w in the middle, not like pronouncing "caw" (crow noise) and fee. This would be so much easier to convey verbally. I'll cut it out now. lol

lol you explained it better than I could I'd have to pronounce it on audio so people could hear the way I say it. a few moments ago I was just walking out of the room trying making a funny voice and using the crow caw for cawfee and I almost had hot caffeine come out of my nose from laughing at how silly I sounded

We just sometimes sound as if we have other accents, like how this girl did when she laughed/got sarcastic. I really don't think Ohio's accent is all that major or adorable, lol.

Yea kinda like California. Like the no accent accent basically xD

I always thought the "U.S. News" "no accent accent" was from the Northeast.

Funny you should say this as it's something I notice with my partner and I. He's from country Victoria, I'm from Sydney and usually there's no difference in accents but the moment you have a rounded "a" sound I notice the difference like "Newcastle". I did linguistics a little at uni, it's fascinating stuff esp when you realise what can constitute as an accent & how there can be hundreds in one area & may offer differ slightly like D & I.

It's true. Accents are fascinating stuff. I know mine has changed since I was younger because my husband's English.

I'm like cawfee but without so much stress that it gives it a new yorker accent. Lol, I think we're overanalyzing this too much.

Lol, that's cool! Looks like we have to represent! If you go to the South or NYC then you can really tell someone has an accent, but with states like mine it is a little odd.

How did we get on this accent discussion? Regardless, I wish that I had a more intriguing accent...and you know Alistair look-alike you ran into? Did he say see you around or see you around?

HA...except the words...in CT it's:

soda not pop

grinders not subs (southern CT says subs...and that's because of Groton sub base - which is why CT would be one of the first to go in WWIII  )

sneakers not tennis shoes

There is no accentless American English. Believe me, midwest and California have distinctive accents. :P

Well considering it was followed by a flirtatious wink I'll let you be the judge of that  ;)

That's so cool because I always call pop...well "pop" and the same for "tennis shoes". I guess we may have a more raspy sounding accent, would that be the proper term to describe? I suppose a raspy tone can be cute, but eh.

If he asks if you have ever licked a lamppost in the middle of winter...you know he's the one, lol! Don't be creep though Rowen...the last thing we need to hear is how you chased an Alistair lookalike to another country.

I think the mistake people can make is assuming that one random person is enough of a sample to represent a region because that person may or may not have a strong regional dialect. Like, how long have they lived there? Did their family come from there, or did they move from a significant distance.Everyone's different and they may have different influences, like me with my husband's family.  I think you really need to hear a good sampling so that it's easier to hear the commonalities.

Ok, so since this is the only actor I know of off the top of my head from CT (grew up in CT) and has stuff on Youtube...this is exactly CT:

Hey I'm not a creep! I made no flirtatious moves whatsoever. But I seriously was waiting for something like that to come up. There isn't a human being that is more Alistair than he was. Anyway he's about 5 years older than me so probs out of my league anyway lol. And the chances of me seeing him again are 1/10000. It's like someone said on the forums before. Bioware is teasing me with these real life encounters!

Seriously, I get the "where are you from" question all the time because of my accent.  Southern Apple-atch-un!  Hasn't snagged me any hot guys or anything, but oh well!  I have been told by a girl form Singapore that my accent had a "musical" quality.  I just giggled and wondered if they watched "Hee-Haw" in Singapore... :P

That's awesome! I'm always amazed when I see step-by-step progress on a painting and how it comes together.

So, I don't know if it the patch or what, but I have seen some creepy crap in my game today.  Check out this monstrosity!  I keep getting human heads on dwarves and eleves (NPCs) and it looks...wrong.  And this "thing" was looking at red lyrium and saying "Interesting" in a female dwarf voice. 'Interesting' indeed...
