Very hard to believe. I was under the impression though, that Solas was announced from the beginning (it wasn`t a surprised to me), for I remember thinking; That`S it??? I think at the time they had Blackwall and Solas.
Blackwall and Solas were actually the final LIs to be revealed...
I work in finance so I know a lot about budget constraints. From a logic/professional standpoint I absolutely understand how they can't do everything they want, but they should have allocated funds from the open world efforts to storytelling efforts IMO. People play Bioware games for story. I'll play Skyrim if I want to run around for hours. But this topic has been discussed to death.

See people will never be happy. At the end of the day, the characters are more realistic if they don`t like EVERYONE, IMO.

Yeah Solas was actually announced as straight and elf-only via Twitter. Then a few days later, Mike Laidlaw posted the huge romance post here on the BSN where Blackwall was nonchalantly listed as a romance for the first time and straight.
It was a battle between Solas, Varric, Vivienne, and Blackwall at the bitter end of it. Vivienne and Varric fans are probably still smarting 
Just picture it:
-No shards, therefore no Forbidden Oasis - money saved
-No astrariums, no need to add hidden caves
-No mosaic pieces
-No bottles
-Have 3 really tough dragons instead of 10
-Drop about half of the fetch quests
-Get rid of Mother Giselle after you try to approach the clerics (or at least reduce her role greatly). Gee I never realized I don't really like her character until now!
-Maybe fewer companions, although I really don't dislike any of them. Maybe have Varric as a non companion guest kind of like Morrigan, since he was a companion in DA2. I could also see Vivienne as being a Morrigan-like NPC without being a party companion.
Just my two cents.
See people will never be happy. At the end of the day, the characters are more realistic if they don`t like EVERYONE, IMO.
That's kind of unnecessary to say, knowing there are fans IN THIS THREAD who are devastated about not getting to romance him with a male, female qunari, or female dwarf.
In the Cullen thread we've always had a mission of kindness and tolerance

I can't tell you how annoyed I was when the third or fourth "bottle" was found I realized it literally meant nothing. I think I stopped hitting the stupid search button after that. Fuq dat search button lol

It`s too bad indeed, but again. I like the play: your companions don`t have to be attracted to you and are allowed to have lives outside. I would have liked the option, especially for Viv, but the comments I read about her were sorta...sad.

That still absolutely blows my mind. Cause we were all betting on who would be romanceable and who wouldn't be, and I don't think anybody could have called it.
The Solas thing still boggles my mind. Granted, DanaDuchy found audio of the male romance with him, but I guess it's the similar situation to Cullen. They just ran out of time.
I never bothered with the aimless quests (mosaic pieces, bottles) or shards. Bah, I can think of better ways to waste my time. If I stumbled across them, then fine I'll pick them up, otherwise... nope.
And I didn't like Giselle from the beginning, ha. At least on my Lavellan, she seemed pretty patronizing.

I wasn`t being mean. Really. It`s a reality. It would have been nice. I wanted to romance Dorian, but I couldn`t...If I want to, I`ll create a male inquisitor. Anyways, I don`t want to start a whole debate about it. It wasn;t meant to offend anyone, but to merely state that I understood why they did it.

Well I'm glad you're happy my friend, though I imagine you'd be less satisfied if you wound up having absolutely no one you liked available to romance. But hey, realism.
