Sad?

Ugh...I wish to elaborate, but I don`t wish to (debate). Already my previous comment was misunderstood. Let us say, ignorant comments. Just gonna keep it Cullen related :)

I just finished the game *whoohoo*. That means I can come back to the thread and my social media withdrawal is over :D.

I'm honest, I'm not even trying to catch up. I think the last time I posted here was in October, so I only skimmed the last three pages. So, everything I know now is already old news to you, but I want to share because I haven't had a chance before.

I just love it that we know Cullen's full name now B) (not what I was expecting, though). I am very happy with his character design/looks, animations, cutscenes and so on. I wish I could comment on Greg Ellis' voice acting but I played a synchronized version of the game (which had great voice acting, btw). And all in all I'm pleased with the Cullen romance. I thought it was very sweet. BUT I also agree with what Cantina wrote on the page 4770. Ironically, the main "issue" I'm having with the romance is that it went too smoothly somehow. For example,

Spoiler
(Not sure if I had to spoiler code that but I wanted to be on the safe side). So, personally, I had hoped for a bit more conflict. I'm a sucker for drama. I agree with some other points, too, e.g. that the other companions hardly comment on the romance. There is a little banter at the war table with Leliana, but I think that's about it. And I didn't even know about the gifts... I wonder if you can give something to Josie? So, yes, I liked the romance, it was sweet, but I also see room for improvement.

I completely understand that budget is an issue and we already got very lucky that we had a romancable Cullen, but *sigh*, I so wish they had made one or two areas a bit smaller (and with less shards) and put their time, money and effort a bit more in the companions/advisors reactions.

True...I have to say as much as I really liked about the game (and there is alot ot like), the lack of consequences was a let down.  When explaining to others why DAI was going to be so much better than Skyrim, THAT is what I talked about (always!).  It seems like desisions in DAO and DA2 made more of an impact in DAI than the consequences WITHIN DAI...so maybe DA4, we'll see it all play out??? :D

One thing I liked was how your world state really affects your playthrough. So, while I agree that it was a bit of let down not to see any consequences "live" while playing, they will probably matter somehow for future world states :).

So, kinda on-topic...look what I got in the mail today:

Spoiler

So far tried one - "Cullen Rutherford" - and it's really tasty! *teehee*

They can be found here.

*edit* Wow, not bad for a cell phone pic!

This cracked me up. LOL  !

ANd before I forget: Did we ever find out where Cullen got his scar from? I never got a dialog option where I could ask him.

I never bothered with the aimless quests (mosaic pieces, bottles) or shards.  Bah, I can think of better ways to waste my time.  If I stumbled across them, then fine I'll pick them up, otherwise... nope.

Imagine then you are me and you kinda like collectables and want to finish all the mosaic pieces in one big competitionist play through (cause what the hell else is the point of skyhold if not to look pretty).  And you spend friggen HOURS running around the Hissing Wastes and Hinterlands, etc, only to found out about 100+ hours in that TWO of them are bugged and cannot be completed (even with Patch 3!!!!!) and ONE can be completed, but it still has a piece missing when you look at it in Skyhold (Archdemon)..  Seriously, I am trying not to rant, but that is some major BS.  So for all my efforts to do the mind-nubming stuff just to do it once, were for naught.  I have one finished moasic in skyhold and I can barely make out the details cause it is rather blurry.  GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, off to work on my page-5000 fic and think no more on those damned golden tiles!!!!!

Would largely depend on what Cerulion's Inquisitor's relationship with their Keeper is, and the clan's relationship with humans at large. I can't see Zathrian being open to such a thing, but Marethari was willing to train Feynriel in his magic, even though he was human.

Because of politics perhaps? Maybe the political opposistion towards the inquisitor has put it under pressure. And defying the law about sending a mage child to the circle could be seen as too much of a scandal and would damage the inquisition? Cullen argues that the child should be send to circle and that they could always see him/her again on occasion. While Lavellan might simply have had enough and the prospect of sending her child away is the last straw.

As for who this political opposistion could be. It could just be your typical alliance of nobles or perhaps you could suggest that Lavellan fears that if her child get sendt to the circle, Vivienne could end up taking advantage of it and have the child become almost a political hostage. Granted that would mean that Lavellan/Vivienne would not be on the best of terms by the time of the story.

Yeah, I forgot about Feynriel and Arianni (that was her name, right?).

If she returns to her clan, I wonder if they can avoid Cullen, though?  I can't picture him just letting Lavellan and his child go, and would likely actively search for them.  Hmm... more suggestions for the story it seems... *ponders*

Actually the most interesting thing about this prompt is that it depends highly on the world state you're in.

Hey, why don't we all try to write a thing on this? It'll be fun to see how things can go differently for each person's created worldstate

I stopped liking her character after she stepped over the line with Dorian.

I wish Lavellan had the option to inform her of meeting Mythal and rub it in;

"So, I know I'm meant to be the Herald of Andraste, but I've neither seen her, nor the Maker... actually neither has Corypheus either and he went to the Maker's house?! But you know who I did meet, Mythal! So... in terms of who's gods are probably more "Real"... I'm going to just leave that religious quandry with you for the moment? Welp, n'night!"

What's funny to me in reading this is that my main DA char (an OC) had a similar beginning to this.

Brienne said she never wrote about his scar because character appearances iterate until the game is almost shipping, so the scar might not have made it to Cullen's final model (and then it would be word count wasted on something that's not in the game). It's up to each player's headcanon.

No, we don't get a chance to ask him in the game, or tell him that we love it, or kiss it....what were talking about?  Oh yeah.  Hopefully in a DLC or one of the writers will tell us. Probably from that battle in DA2.

No.  I'd hope that if that dialogue were added, it would happen after s/he knew him for awhile, though.  This isn't directed at you, but it's really rude and makes people uncomfortable to ask them about a scar (and this is coming from first hand experience).

Heh, I'm sorry to hear that.  I don't really care about the tedious stuff, but I feel for those who do with that bug.  Ugh, I'd go nuts if that happened o.O

I'm not very... talented... at writing fiction.  I could try, maybe.  It's tempting and I am loving this prompt!

Ha, she'd probably just continue cherry pick what she liked and what would fit with her worldview to support her case even more.

Can I just say one tiny thing (not to fuel the fire, but to share a personal learning experience)...

The very first thing I ever posted on the BSN forum was a little essay on "Why romance limitations are a good thing".  I though I had it all figured out.  I made a very well crafted argument all about why it added realism, made you play a different sex/race to get the LI you wanted.  I was so proud of myself. I thought I made it all better for everyone with my little moment of clarity.

And then I got responses from really thoughtful, heartfelt, sad people who explained to me (some nice, and some not so nice), why it sucked for them.  That this is an RPG.  That what one person does in their fantasy world should not in any way affect what others do/desire in theirs.  It was a major EYE-OPENER!

I would have been heartbroken if Cullen had been gay and not straight, cause my first choice is to play a straight human female.  I don't think i would enjoyed DAO half as much as I did if not for Alistair and my ability to romance him. The responses were quick to point that out to me...and they were right.

So after posting that stupid thing, I completely changed my mind about it.  I left it up for posterity, so I could always look back and think about how close minded I was about all of it. And luckily, I found this group where folks stop me if I start getting close-minded again and remind me why we are all here.  To gush, laugh, share, learn, and grow just a little. And drool over Cullen pics, of course!

Big love to all!! ;)

Alas, I have no Lavellans romancing Cullen, so I couldn't do this scenario any justice.

I might tackle it with a non-mage Trevelyan having a mage child (mine would definitely want her child sent to the Circle), but that would have to be after the big 5k, or I'll never actually finish that fic. ;)

Interesting idea. I have already written several one-shots for DA:I by now and I would certainly love to write more, though I am sadly busy for the rest of the month mostly, but perhaps after that I will give it a shot.

Yeah...I agree that the impact from past games was not super overt, or as well done as could have been. But for me, the whole Alistair as the warden versus as Alistair as the king felt like a huge difference...but this is likely because I am way more obsessed with Alistair than is even remotely healthy. :P .

Alistair, how could I forget him! Hah, if I had any kind of artistic ability, I would've been very overtly obsessed but alas, it wad resigned to my imagination. He is perhaps the best most impactful consequence of our actions :)

Just picture it:

-No shards, therefore no Forbidden Oasis - money saved

-No astrariums, no need to add hidden caves

-No mosaic pieces

-No bottles

-Have 3 really tough dragons instead of 10

-Drop about half of the fetch quests

-Get rid of Mother Giselle after you try to approach the clerics (or at least reduce her role greatly).  Gee I never realized I don't really like her character until now!

-Maybe fewer companions, although I really don't dislike any of them.  Maybe have Varric as a non companion guest kind of like Morrigan, since he was a companion in DA2.  I could also see Vivienne as being a Morrigan-like NPC without being a party companion.

Just my two cents.

Sorry, I have to disagree on the number of dragon. 10 ain't nearly half enough for me. I need 10 more. Seriously.

Agree on your other points.

I work in finance so I know a lot about budget constraints.  From a logic/professional standpoint I absolutely understand how they can't do everything they want, but they should have allocated funds from the open world efforts to storytelling efforts IMO.  People play Bioware games for story.  I'll play Skyrim if I want to run around for hours.  But this topic has been discussed to death.

I'm about to talk to Cullen after getting to Skyhold - squee!

Couldn't of said it better. Had know idea he wasn't going to be romamce wow after the firsts two games what they put him threw they had Gold there. Don't get me wrong wouldn't of had so many others until the next one. The bite off more then they can chew, still will get the DLC and the next one. Didn't know they did ME either been out of the loop. Have to check it out I'm just thinking this is wet the fans whistle for the next. Hoping by the end of all it will connect. Doesn't matter DA will have a place in my heart always all of them cause I'm a Bioware fan.

I didn't like Mother Giselle after I saw how she acted with Dorian. Heck, she wanted me to lie to him to get him too the meeting place with his father. I mean come on, he is a grown man that can think for himself after all. I hated her character, as she came off as very patronizing to my character who pointed out all the flaws with the Chantry. She even said the subjection and destruction of the elves are a highly debated topic and basicly her argument was trying to white wash the whole thing. Thanks Giselle for proving your a waste of space, becuase Sloas is now my spritial advisor and mentor forever more in this game.
