My wishes for Cullen - pure fluff of course - love you anyway!

 

• I wish his eyes weren't sunken in - and his pallor - would love to see some color in his face. I guess without lyrium, he looks a tad unhealthy. Hopefully he will look healthier in the future.
• I wish he was able to change clothes - really that fur thing is ok - but not everyday and all the time?? The shape of the back makes him look a bit hunched over - poor posture.
• I wish his head didn't flop over to one side quite so often.
• I wish he didn't sashay to the war table.
• I wish he didn't always keep on hand on his sword. Sometimes it looks really grandmotherly and odd.

 

Interesting difference in reading their portrayal of him, since some of those are the things I like most about their interpretation . I like him at the war table, to me, it's much more swagger than sashay, and he's at his most confident when he's being the military commander. I think they nailed his appearance as an addict in recovery, and I love the fact he isn't perfect. And the hand on his sword hilt nails that perfectly; it screams someone who has constantly been at alert and ready to react to threats and a truly professional warrior.

 

I agree somewhat on the depth of eyes, though that's a bit odd on a lot of characters, and I've honestly always thought the fur collar to his coat was impractical. I haven't seen his head do anything I'd call a "flop" though? He does tilt his head to the side quite a bit, but that's a pretty common trait a lot of people share, and makes him seem more believable to me, but maybe you're talking about something else that I missed?

Do you guys remember when the second part of Perseverance kicks in? When Cullen tries to step down? Is it based on main story progression or do I just need to do side stuff for bit?  This time I'm trying to finish that before kicking off the romance.

Yes, I had the first part of the convo and the chess scene. They happened pretty much immediately after Skyhold. ****! Now I have to choose between dancing with Cullen in Halamshiral or finally getting Alistair and Morrigan to talk in the garden? I was planning on doing Wicked Hearts first.

 

It's weird, on this PT I am getting everyone's personal quests really quickly.  I just got to Skyhold and only traveled away once and came back.

no it's just one unfinished work. There's a toggle in the initial setting for chapter 1 to tell it your story has multiple chapters.

It's great. I really like it . It's easy to read (in a good way) and how you phrase your sentences makes the story very fluent.

 

Cullen is a Nice guy,but his background is messes up and full of plot holes, he aching like nothing happened hurt his character even more. i wish the writer could fix the mess they created with him =/.

Where exactly do you see plot holes? I agree, though, that he came off too quickly from his lyrium addiction.

I was wondering whether you awesome people would be interested in a February Cullen Challenge? Both FanFic and Art Because it is short-notice, and because we have the 5000pg milestone coming up, the deadline for submission would be end of February. However, the theme would be Valentine's.

We'd need a panel of judges for each category (perhaps 3). The winner within the writing section would get a commissioned piece of Cullen drawn by myself, 8x11" format, digital. I am still debating over what might be appropriate for the winner of the art section - maybe a fanfic, 4k words?

Does this look like something interesting to do? Anyone willing to help? Suggestions?

We've talked about contests in the past here in the thread, and FWIW, there was some concern about deciding someone was "best" and the potential hard feelings. Also how do you compare a story to a painting?

Anyway I'm personally torn about the notion.

Incidentally, there's also the BW fan creation contest right now as well as the DA Big Bang.

It's up!  But I call him Roland (I can't help it...something about the way "Rory" sounds...ick)!!  Hope you like!  There is ALOT more of him in the later chapters.  In a way, it kinda becomes his story.

Ah, I see. Never thought about it that way, but then I grew up in a pretty competitive environment. I almost never won, but it was fun to be part of something very focused

There might still be folks keen on it. :shrug: Some were excited about some healthy competition, while Id say more folks were concerned. So that's why we've never done it, Altho last time we talked about it was a year or two ago.

TBH it's all we can do to get folks to participate in the page milestone celebrations. But maybe this would be more to people's liking?

If you side with the templars in DA2, Hawke says the templars in Kirkwall started using red lyrium, became paranoid and threatened him, he left Kirkwall because of this. Cullen was the Commander of the templars at time, if even Hawke knew about the red lyrium, how could Cullen not know about it?

Agreed - thought it was odd. In all my play-throughs Cullen and Hawke were friends and yet, it was like he hardly knew Hawke in DA:I. Also that Cullen implies that he barely knew Varric was odd for me, because again in all my play-throughs Varric was always with Hawke so when ever he interacted with Cullen there he was....

 

I actually found Hawkes portrayal in DA:I to be a put off-putting. He seemed to be angry and negative - again - a big change from his cheerful, sarcastic self in DA:2. I guess life did not treat him well since DA2 ended.

It could be, but then again I think art is too subjective to be judged. 

 

I'd be wary with a competition like that. It could go one of two ways:

1) Wonderfully

2) Flame fest and arguing over artistic quality and integrity.

I'd vote for not voting/being competitive on 5k page. Everyone loves sharing their work with eachother because we're a "judgement free" zone. That's what makes everyone here so receptive to eachother imo. Let's just share and if people want opinions on their work, they'll certainly ask for it just my 2 cents!
