It could be, but then again I think art is too subjective to be judged. 

 

I'd be wary with a competition like that. It could go one of two ways:

1) Wonderfully

2) Flame fest and arguing over artistic quality and integrity. 

I'd rather keep things friendly and supportive. It might stay that way with a competition. But I'd almost bet a lot of people would not put their work forward if it's a competition, and that would be disappointing to know I wasn't seeing work that people would otherwise have shared.

Hi all...I promise, this is my last question about AO3...how do I change the setting from AO3 members only to public?  i can't seem to figure it out (after looking for a long while).  Thanks for the help!

I agree with this and as a writer I probably wouldn't submit into it.

 

haha for me anything I put on AO3/FF.net is done purely for fun and I'd rather not be feeling ill towards other's work merely because I want more favor for my own.

Agreed - thought it was odd. In all my play-throughs Cullen and Hawke were friends and yet, it was like he hardly knew Hawke in DA:I. Also that Cullen implies that he barely knew Varric was odd for me, because again in all my play-throughs Varric was always with Hawke so when ever he interacted with Cullen there he was....

 

I actually found Hawkes portrayal in DA:I to be a put off-putting. He seemed to be angry and negative - again - a big change from his cheerful, sarcastic self in DA:2. I guess life did not treat him well since DA2 ended.

I agree that there are a number of questionmarks there regarding the red lyrium in Kirkwall and how much Cullen knew vs how much Hawke knew. I think they should've explained that a bit more. It makes me wish they *had* let us set in the Keep how well Cullen and Hawke knew each other... altho given that they summarily removed that tile late in the process, it was clear that it would have no bearing on the game whatsoever. 

 

On Hawke's personality, I thought this was something you can set in the Keep. 

 

I'd vote for not voting/being competitive on 5k page. Everyone loves sharing their work with eachother because we're a "judgement free" zone. That's what makes everyone here so receptive to eachother imo. Let's just share and if people want opinions on their work, they'll certainly ask for it just my 2 cents!

I think the notion was to have this be separate from the Page 5000 celebration, just to be clear. Altho, I agree with you that that's been an advantage of the page celebrations.

I've never had this problem, but looking at my own stories, there's a section on Privacy and one of the options is "only show to registered users". Maybe make sure that's unchecked? That should be the default.

As it stands though I've turned into a pretty lazy writer who has been reunited with adobe Photoshop and graphics design.

 

That, and tumblr takes a lot less energy than 6-10 hours dedication to a chapter.

 

Oh! Alienware hasn't been terrible yet. Apart from a few random crashes I can officially play DAI comfortably!

Ahhh...I see, I had to actually edit the work and then you get the option to check that privacy stuff.  OK, it should be open to all now.  Can someone without an AO3 check the link and see if they can get to it now and let me know?

Thanks!  I think I did the rating correctly (Mature...but not explicit...is is not triple X or anything).  I also tagged for violence (whihc is there) and rape (which is implied only, but wanted to be safe...).  I also tried to give a bit of warning in my summary.  Hopefully no one will be offended!

IF you're worried about the tags, go into "additional tags" and just add stuff you're worried people might need to know. That's an advantage of AO3, that the tags are free form. So put 'em all in there. Kinks, triggers, whatever. You could browse some other stories and look at the types of tags they use.

Yes, I had the first part of the convo and the chess scene. They happened pretty much immediately after Skyhold. ****! Now I have to choose between dancing with Cullen in Halamshiral or finally getting Alistair and Morrigan to talk in the garden? I was planning on doing Wicked Hearts first.

 

It's weird, on this PT I am getting everyone's personal quests really quickly.  I just got to Skyhold and only traveled away once and came back.

 

Yes, I was faced with this with my last playthrough. If you want to be able to dance with Cullen at the ball and not activate the romance til after Perseverance, you have to do Adamant first.

Jumping back a bit, but what's this BW fan creation contest? I am probably just having a dim moment, but I can't seem to find any information about it.

Also, finally reached the "put up or shut up" phase with some stuff I'd been writing, aka "now you're just quibbling with yourself over individual word choices time to MOVE ON ALREADY"

One's a self-indulgent bit of fluff utilizing what seems to be the popular "Cole plays matchmaker" trope. The other I wrote after someone mentioned wanting to see Cullen and Varric just talking... and once I got into that, I very quickly realized that Hawke would have to be a big part of any conversation they would have, so there's a lot of Hawke in the mix, too. How appropriate, given a few recent posts! Anyway, there's no sex, little romance, only vague angst and a lot of talking (version 1.0 was, literally, pages and pages of dialogue that I filled in around), so probably a bit dull for most people... oh god I'm rambling now, I always ramble when I'm nervous.

Anyway, it's all here. I'll just double-check the settings to make sure it's set to be public. At some poínt I'll put it up on ff.net, too

Editted to add: Oh yes! Comments/criticism welcome and appreciated, even! This is my first attempt at fan fiction. It's been years since I wrote more than half-finished drabbles, but writing's a habit I'm trying to get back into.
