Question y'all: as Cullen slowly weans off lyrium, do you think he'd still use his powers, even as they diminish? Also, do you suppose that using his powers might increase the craving?

I actually have questions about this. I admit I have a hard time keeping up with the lore details of this universe. So how exactly can Templars interrupt magic? And what is happening during his withdrawals? Are there actually demons tormenting him or is that just something that's popped up from fan fic? Is he just having really terrible dreams and physical reactions to the lyrium leaving his system? Sorry don't want to hijack Eluvianus' question but add to it.
Also, I thought lyrium made their powers possible, so without it he can't use them.

I don't think he would even if he could as he doesn't want to be reminded of that life. Though I am guessing his instincts might try to kick in given extreme circumstances. Whether or not he could, maybe but in some limited capacity and diminishing over time.

Anyone else find it kinda weird that Cullen is in his mid 30's and still can't talk to girls?
I suppose the way he gets all nervous is adorable, but doesn't make a lot of sense.
Templar life, perhaps? They don't take vows of celibacy but don't get out much either.
If I recall correctly it was said from the writer that Cullen is 30, not in his mid 30s.
I don't think it has to do with him having an issue speaking to women. Cullen does just fine speaking to anyone-woman or man.
However when it comes to being interested in a woman, yes he get a bit flustered, but no more then anyone else would be. Some people are are more confident in expressing themselves to whatever sex they are attracted too, while others are more like Cullen.
Truth be told I find it adorable Cullen gets a bit flustered in expressing his feelings-adds to his character and his charm.

Alistair said that lyrium doesn't grant Templars their powers but only makes them stronger.

Umm...weird question...where would I have to stand in skyhold if cullen is outside his office on the battlements and I was too, gazing in his direction? The wierd balcony and rooms by vivienne? Not at home so can't check!! Thaaaanks
Yes, or on the pathway from Solas' area to Cullen's tower. Or up on the battlement on the other side of Skyhold above where Cassandra beats on the dummies.

You can see the Battlements where he would stand from the balcony in your room. His office is only just barely out of sight from there too.

EDIT: frak! I thought my phone did something weird.
What this was supposed to say is DG says that a templar can use his abilities for some time after he stops taking lyrium, as evidenced by Alistair, altho eventually he'll lose them.
As to the cravings... dunno, but sounds plausible to me.

From what I read and interpret it all. Templars abilities come from Lyrium- disrupting magic. I'll assume since Cullen no longer takes lyrium his abilities from lyrium will diminish over time and eventually disappear all together. but as Cullen stated, even without lyrium, Templars are considered the best warriors in Thedas.

Cassandra and Solas discuss what the Templar powers actually do.
Mages draw upon the Fade, the immaterial world, the substance of dreams. What Templars do is reassert the reality of the world, reinforcing the rules, and not allow mages to manipulate it via magic.
As for the "demons" they're just hallucinations. He wouldn't be tormented by actual demonic entities. He's just experiencing serious drug withdrawal.

I'd love to, but with my luck, I'd leave my phone turned on in an important meeting. Not that it would surprise most of the people I work with, but there are a few...
OMG this totally happens to me all the time. I work from home, but I'm in conference calls quite often. I leave my phone on the desk next to me and I forget to turn mute on. My text tone is R2-D2 and one time someone was like "Oh, hello R2!" Luckily he was a co-worker who also loves Star Wars! ![]()

That's really odd - I haven't touched any of the files for DAI or the flycam for weeks so I have no idea what went wrong. I know I didn't do anything differently than usual while loading it. Just re-downloaded it from the site and it started working again even though the last update was apparently in December. Very weird.
Thanks for the answer, anyhoo!
That is weird! Maybe somehow the Cinematic Tools file got modified when you patched? I keep my DAI Cinematic Tools on my desktop so no clue. Glad to hear you got it fixed!

Sounds like they're basically physical dispelling spells then? And are templars the best? Chevaliers I thought were elite too? And let's not forget the qunari...big mo-fos....

I just wish there wasn't that gigantic plot hole in DA: O where you could become a Templar and obviously not take lyrium.
I also finished reading the comic series - I didn't find a spot where Ali actually says he started taking lyrium again, only that he started practicing his templar abilities again. Did I miss something?

Templars aren't necessarily the best, but they're up there. I'd say that next to the Qunari, they are the most versatile, as they can dispel most magic. They'd be helpless versus blood magic.

Alistair never actually becomes a full fledged templar, Duncan recruits him before all that.I just wish there wasn't that gigantic plot hole in DA: O where you could become a Templar and obviously not take lyrium.
