Well like I said, players already have the option to play sturdier races like humans, dwarfs, and qunari, so imo it's only fair that elves be slight so that players can have that body type option.

Regarding body types though, I will say I hate how they've slimmed down the female dwarfs. Lame, BioWare :(

Oh, don't get me started, I've ranted enough this morning :P

I really don't have a problem with the elven build, personally *shrugs*.  I'm more concerned with the poor posture, though.  Maybe she should practice walking with a book balanced on her head...

It's not  the lack of natural sturdiness. Thin is fine, particularly for an elf. It's more the animation and rigging. She often looks like a wooden puppet to me. Kinda like Merrill's weird shoulder blades and such from her romance scene.

Oh I agree with this. My Dalish male walked with his legs splayed out as if he'd just gotten off a horse. It was obviously the human male rigging. Laaaazy, BioWare.

In his romance scene with Bull I did get to see him shirtless and he looked fine, quite cute in fact. So it's not the model but the rigging and posture, you're right.

I also hate how my dwarf prances about with her arms floating at her sides like a pretty pretty princess lol

I definitely agree that I like that elves are slimmer because as a person with a slight body type I like the representation. Though I wish I also had the option to play as a slim human, because the implication that slight humans are out of the ordinary is a bit unnerving, and my human Inquisitor is so very tall. I feel like it's often taller humans irl who are considered attractive and my small size has always bothered me in that regard, so I would have felt better playing as a small human instead of having to identify as a non-human, haha. I have nothing against elves, of course, I just like playing self-inserts and I don't identify much with elven culture even though I can respect it.

Also, in Inquisition, everyone's boobs are so big. Even the elves. My tatas are not quite so large. LOL. screaming.

I understand that it would have been hard to implement body size sliders in Dragon Age since they might end up with size overlaps between the different races, though. Oh well. It's not a big deal and it didn't bother me that much, but I just felt like I had to say it.

That's because when it comes to creating female player characters, their number one concern has always been IS SHE SEXY ENOUGH?! lol

Well I finished part 1 of my Female Warrior Cullen story and am posting link as promised.

One note, this Trevelyan background is extremely violent. While it does not describe  rape and such, it does make it clear she was used really bad, lost her Mom to a blood mage and had a jerk of a Dad and had a bad experience with a Templar. She is my salute to childhood survivors of abuse and there is a lot of me in her and so its a very personal piece I have wanted to write for some time.

So meet Vespera Trevelyan who Varric calls Nixi as slang for Phoenix because she rose from the ashes of her past to become the Inquisitor.

Hello everybody! I'd love to hear your opinion of this, since many of you are way more practiced than I.  I posted the Tumblr link earlier but it's now on Ao3, link below.  From this everkings Tumblr prompt:

I wouldn't say that's purely the case. If any game maker were to step away from the "norm" of "bombshells in battle bikinis," Bioware would be it.

I just think for mechanics, they had to pick one standard body size. Without that, we'd have clipping galore and messed up animations, moreso than we already do. If they went with the standard of "little boobies," we'd have folks complaining the other way. The current average bra size in the US is a 34DD. Looks about right for the human IQ.

There's "creepy" Red Templar Cullen, and then there's "smexy" Red Templar Cullen. That specific one comes to mind that was posted here a few times. Good grief that one was nice.

Thanks for the feedback on "edits." I get kinda possessive over my stuff...that's the artsy-fartsy side of me shining through. Doesn't matter what type of artsy-fartsy a person is - they put time into it, they have a right to be possessive over it. I will make sure I add a note on anything going forward that my screenshots are not edited.

Oh yeah, I know which one you're talking about, haha ;)

I've just seen people on Tumblr who have requested that Red Templar Cullen posts be tagged because they don't want to see any of them, which is why I felt like I should clarify that what I was drawing wasn't out of some desire to see Cullen go bad and that I'm maintaining an aesthetic distance from the subject matter. As a character Cullen has come so far, and I think many relate to what he's going through with his lyrium addiction so it's absolutely understandable that they don't like the depictions of him not being able to fight it or get rid of it. I haven't dealt with addiction myself but I want to make sure people know that I'm not trying to make them uncomfortable on purpose.

And yeah, I totally understand! I am the same way with my gifs even though I recognize that all I've done is edit the colors and throw on some filters. If people are able to appreciate my screencaptures in ways that they wouldn't be able to if they just shot their own footage from the game, then that means I've added something new. It's totally your right to want people to appreciate what you've made as it is.

Hey I'm not saying they're total villains or that they don't try :P But the animations and appearance of the female characters are clearly coded for the straight male gaze! It will take time for this to change in gaming (and indeed BW are at the forefront of such change).

I have no prob with Red Templar Cullen. I actually really like his "what if" fears we get to see in his nemesis quest line. There's a very good fic on AO3 about a Red Templar Cullen I've been reading:

Actually, the way the female human walks (Cassandra, stock IQ walk) is pretty much how I walk irl. I've seen folks complain about it in-game, but I honestly don't see why.

The only time it's off for me is when she's all bow-legged or looks like she's got a bad back in some scenes.

I don't think they'd purposefully imply that smaller breasts are inherently less sexy that way, though I suppose it's related.

I'm inclined to agree with Melissa, I'd guess they probably focused more on resizing limbs and overall body size to differentiate elves/qunari/dwarves from the human default and focused less on the overall proportions of other aspects of the body. Probably related somewhat to how dwarven proportions look slimmer, too? Either way, it would have been nice to have the option to alter more of our characters in the CC outside of just their faces.

Yes, that would have been nice, but I can see why they didn't include it. You can change that stuff in Skyrim and a lot of MMO's, but I would think that's because there's not a lot of close quarters animations that could potentially clip/break due to varying body sizes. Just like you can't change Shep's body shape.

If they were concerned about this, then they shouldn't have slimmed the dwarven women so much. I love dwarves, but the dwarven woman are so far from looking like dwarven men now that I sometimes briefly mistake my own dwarves for humans if they aren't standing next to someone. I really feel that all the female body shapes except elves look slimmer than I would expect the average in relation to the male body types for those races, much less a single one I'd consider on the sturdy side (both male and female elves are very slender.) I'm still aggravated that my female warriors have less shoulder and arm muscle than male mages and they don't move like athletes.

I'm really happy we had the chance to help him deal with Samson myself and that he was able to confront those fears, in a sense. I don't mind seeing Red Templar Cullen around either, and it's fascinating to see how people depict the way the crystals sprout from his very attractive body since everyone does it differently. But I'm not so into imagining the alternate universe scenario in which he actually becomes a Red Templar myself, haha. I like thinking that Cullen deals with the angst but overcomes it, but I don't like thinking about him actually succumbing to it because in that world he is essentially doomed to die soon and I don't like subjecting myself to negative feels without a happy ending when it comes to him, haha. But I'll check that fic out nonetheless! It'll be interesting to see another's take on it.

Yeah, I know people were complaining about Lavellan's limbs being off in her kiss scene with Cullen. I guess smaller tatas would have been weird if they left a gap between Cullen and Lavellan during a hug that made it look like he was keeping his distance? Idk, LOL. I can understand why they didn't, but I'm still going to hold on to the hopes that they'll be able to implement something that works in the future. :P
