and is there a vow or is it more like unspoken? Like don't get emotionally invested in these mages because there might come a day when you have to kill them, and killing them is your vow.

It seemed to happen quite a bit, though, at least hearing it from Ellandra in the Hinterlands after you return her phylactery.

In the comics a similar situation happened the Knight Comander ordered the Knight that loved a mage to her. Agreed. It may not have been up front and in your face obvious,but it def happened where some mages and templars had developed relationships with each other

Yeah, the writers liken the Circle to High School, so of course it happens, as evidenced by Wynne's son, Rhys, for example. But, in contrast, Cullen is generally a rule follower.

I always considered it a possibility. A lessons learned thing about getting too close to your charges sort of thing from Greagoir. Gives me an idea for a later chapter in my fic I'm working on now. <---shameless self promotion is shameless.

I really love that incorruptible aspect of Cullen - he's so reliable and honest.
Part of me also likes to imagine that he kept away from Amell as much for her safety as it was for his own morals. To like someone but never be able to act on it lest she suffers the consequences of your indiscretion...sigh.

It's a common theory.
I've always thought that as much as this would have been a punishment for him, in her place I'd have been so relieved and even encouraged to see him in that role. She'd know he wouldn't be looking for any tiny twitch as an excuse to do it, and that if worse came to worse that he might consider it avenging her by killing the demon that stole her body (rather than punishing her for failing / being born a Sinful Mage), that he wouldn't laugh and brag about it afterwards like some Templars might have, etc. Even more so ever since seeing that DA:I codex entry about probably!Anders's Harrowing, where the demon is trying to psych him out by going on about how excited the Templars are to take him down back on the mortal plane.
Yeah, I feel like chastity and the ability to have fun in the sack are sometimes wrongfully considered to be mutually exclusive. People have their own reasons for not wanting to immediately enter into a physical relationship without commitment and it doesn't necessarily mean they think it's morally better or that they're afraid to be wild when they do get down to it.
The two things aren't actually all that related, imo, and as long as no one's imposing one view or the other as the "best" one, and everyone is happy with their choices, I'll celebrate the wide range of possibilities. But I think it's really nice that they left things open to interpretation. Everyone has the romance their own way, so to speak.

Going back to the DA:O mod for Cullen to make him look like he does in Inquisition, anyone have a link?
I am playing DA2 right now by the way to refresh - man, I can't get over how different Cullen sounds. His voice is so light and airy compared to the Inquisition version. He's been hardened now by the events in Kirkwall, heh. I definitely much prefer his look and sound now.

Oh yes, Cullen is a rule follower. Which makes me wonder if he is all for following rules in the bedroom.
Cullen: "Inquisitor, I know we have, um, spent some alone time together. Perhaps it’s a good time for me to present these rules I have drawn up for us."
(Hands the Inquisitor a piece of paper. Inquisitor, looks at the paper and begins reading).
1. No sex toys. This includes live animals such as nugs.
2. There is no safety word. We either do this or we do not.
3. We will remain partially clothed for the first part of love making then later we may remove our clothes.
4. Do not touch my bottom.
5. I know you are the Inquisitor, but I am the Commander. I prefer taking charge.
6. There will be nothing kinky happening. This includes playing "The naughty mage and upstanding knight." I prefer simplicity.
7. No outfits. They do nothing for me.
8. Being a former Templar and you being a mage, I do not want any spells cast to increase arousal. Again this does nothing for me.
9. Please keep the screaming and moaning to a whisper. I do not need the soldiers in the barracks to over hear us, thus spreading more gossip then already has been.
10. Yes, my ceiling/floor is in a bad state, thus we will do it simple and slow. I do not need the floor collapsing and us with down into my office.
11.When you awake, please dress quickly and attempt to sneak out before I awake. You will no doubt fail but at least try.
12. When sleeping with me, I have bad dreams, not wet dreams. You must endure this.
(Inquisitor looks up from the paper back at Cullen, with a deer in the head-lights look).
Cullen hands her a quill with fresh ink on the tip). “Just sign down at the bottom of the paper please."

omfg my hubby just walked by and read this he had a flabbergasted look on his face and all I could do is laugh as he walked away I'm still laughing. Although my Quizzy is a rule breaker and well those rules would be broken oh so many times and she'd have a hard time looking at Cullen with a straight face and being the wise ass that she is she would him ask if there are Consequences for breaking them
You Inquisitor makes a remark about the desk being "sturdy" if you do the pranks after sexy times.
Yes I got that on one PT - I think they had a two-fer that night. One on the desk, one in the bed .
ya know I kinda wish Sera would have commented when Quizzy said it's Sturdy lol
