XD

I want this ending!!!

Basically a Beta is like an editor.  Give suggestions and check stuff.  Having it "beta'd mean having someone look it over before uploading.  It's just another pair of eyes.

As for myself, I quit having my stuff beta'd because several didn't do it when they said they would and another decided to try and steal it.   <_<

Ah ok, thanks a lot for the explanation. I'm sorry that people tried to steal your work, that's really really bad

Fanfic writers don't even get paid, only personal feeling & sometimes recognition from your readers. Trying to steal that much is meh... :(

I love dragons...JUST NOT WHEN THEY TURN MY ELF INTO ROASTED TURKEY! Stupid dragon...stupid Hinterlands, stupid everything...now I sound like Sera. I am a boss at owning dragons when it comes to the later levels on Nightmare, but the Hinterland's dragon on nightmare and your team severely under-leveled...well it is not pretty.

Someone reads your story before it is made public, and they make edits/refine your writing.

I have yet to take down the Hinterlands dragon, but I haven't actually taken the time to outfit a team specifically to do it.

Ah... no pressure! LOL Thanks. I hope it passes muster. It's a different kind of story than the last, since of course, it's reality, not the Varric version. :P

Oh no! No pressure! I'm sure whatever it ends up being will be great. Can't mess up good writing style :)

It's no biggie.  But thanks.  It was my big DA2 fic.  After that happened, I couldn't bring myself to finish it.  Kinda pissed me off.  But that was a few years ago.  Now I'm doing my Cully-Wully fic and its been my sweet anodyne for the past two months of crappy drama.

Oh and since we're on to dragons, *raises hand* I am a complete pu**y! What's that I hear? Roaring? Wings flapping? No, Bull, later! Calm down...some other time...first I need some belts, and amulets...ooo maybe some rings...electrical resistance, fire, ice... ooo silverite! And then I'm off mining instead. :P They always kick my ass, crestwood and hinterlands nonwithstanding.
But do those dragon heads ever appear anywhere?? Jose said they would... :(

I find it really... low? to abuse someone's trust to that point. Well, maybe beta's not such good idea, direct alpha release

I can beat all the dragons in every PT I do, but that dragon always makes me rage a bit. However, when you do beat it Ti...it is SO satisfying!

LOL, I run into the fray and get into my "Come at me Bro" stance! Being a KE will give you that confidence.

Nah.  It's a small group and the majority of people are great.  I used to beta before personal issues had me stop.  Such is life it seems.

One thing I particularly liked about Dorian's conversation after Adamant (when romancing him) is he actually talks about how he thought you had died and stuff. It was nice to have the recognition of that was some crazy ****.

I know this was super far back but I'm on my phone and just wanted to add my head canon.

For my Cullenmance pt Perseverance happened right after Adamant, so in my world, Cullen sees you going to the Fade as a personal failure on his part and something he thinks may not have happened if he hadn't been in withdrawal. So it's not so much, "I can't believe you almost died" but more, "It's my fault that you almost died, and it's because I wasn't taking lyrium.

I heard several times fanfic writers use phrases like "I didn't get the time to Beta my fanfic due to deadline so here you go". Does that mean that beta = someone read it before release to public??

Ah, yes! A beta reader is someone who reads it over for you before you publish. Like an editor, but it can be someone who reads it for consistency, or typos, or whatever. Fanfic.net does have a place where you can find betas, but I think most folks ask someone they know. meanieweenie betas for me.

So beta can be a noun or a verb. :) Your beta betas for you.

(and  'd a billion times)

As an ex-editor, I'm so sorry this happened to you. I've had authors deliver me plagerized material and I was floored when a google search revealed just how much he stole. But it certainly can go both ways which is really too bad.

Editors have the privilege of being the first to read someone's work, and before editing, it's really about that person tapping into their vision and emotions, proper grammar be damned! I've always respected authors for their dedication, especially those who write soley for pleasure.

All of you writers are great, alpha it and we'll still love it! :D

Either situation would be fine with me - I just wish he would have said something, anything, like apparently Dorian does.  Poor guy already feels guilty about you almost dying at Haven. Poor sexy Cullen.

I only write for pleasure.  If people enjoy it, all the better.  It's straight out there, flaws and all.  My current CullenxTrevelyan fic is one of those stories to reward myself for surviving two months of absolute hell.  It's quite cathartic, tbh.

Agreed!  I though about asking for a beta reader, but then figured...meh...i just wrote the thing for fun anyways! Plus, I figure people already like the world (which is why one would read a fan fic anyway), so I can't imagine they will be terribly disappointed with a few typos and the occasional grammar screw up.

And, and BTW, that is major BS that someone would steal you story.  Very uncool...

I would happily beta read for others if I had more time! But I am currently writing a manuscript for work and piddlin around with my own fic, that I barely have time to do anything else but occasionally  come on here and ogle Cullen shots!  (I came so close to volunteering to read Zarro's, but I can't spare the time to give it real edits)... I need spring break!!! :P

I'm in the same boat here, though KE and melee classes seem to make things...better in this quest. Fighting right by his side...mmm

Though I must ask, is your chara's hair modded? It doesn't look familiar to me.

So true, nothing like standing right next to your man and killing things together. I love how in this pic:

Spoiler

it kind of looks like he's looking at her surprised, like "Holy crap, I didn't know she could kill things this fast!" xD

And no, that's just a standard hair, not modded - I can't mod since I'm not on PC. I haven't seen many people use it, though. Here is her in close up:

So, this has nothing to do with the current discussions on here, but I just went giggity with my best friend over Cullen, and I thought I'd share with you :) I sent her the portrait of Cullen I am currently working on (she knows nothing of Dragon Age), and her reaction was: "He's so sexy! Don't let [your husband] see this, EVER!"

I went all squee at her reaction: Cullen's attractiveness is universal, apparently. Best friend approved :D

As for my hubby, this is his reaction to my fangirliness over Cullen:

The only time it every bothers me is when my brain is going too fast for my hands to keep up and then it's just simple annoyance with how slow my hands are acting.  ;)

That's interesting :) I always do the ball first and then adamant. So his whole lyrium thing happens because he pushed himself too hard and the stress of dealing with all of the *stuff* there. Then Adamant works for both of them as a "hey you both are in a lot of danger every time something big happens" sort of wake-up call, which makes how those things unfold make more sense to me. It's like reaffirming how they both feel and sort of acknowledging the fact they could die any day.

I always wondered how people made sense of it the other way though, I like that as well :)

Yup!  But you gotta pick your battles. Which is why almost every post I have ever put on this site has a damned typo in it.  I just gotta let the words go and move on and hope folks know what the hell I'm saying! :P   Work though...gotta be perfection.  Blah!

Lol, that's my husband's reaction too. Though he's also sort of amused I am evenly split between Cullen, Solas, and Dorian.
