You know, there was actually a study of women's online porn habits that found that the top Web site they use is fanfiction.net. It's an interesting read!

The Online World of Female Desire

*snip*

Thank you, and bookmarked for later :) I am not surprised at the findings, however :) I like to fantasize about my favourite characters... *cough* Cullen *cough*...

Nope. Those are vanilla versions of Cullen. TBH, I still find him hotter in DA2. Not sure why folks think he's unattractive.

No scar until DA:I, though... That adds sooo much to his attractiveness :D Then again, I don't like perfect features... There has to be a flaw somewhere, otherwise I'm not interested. Am I weird?

I think that it's actually interesting, if we're to "analyze" his personality/interactions throughout the series.

DA:O Magi Origin - a shy, moderate guy, quite nervous. This gives some colour to his person.
DA:O Broken Tower - heavily shell-shocked, currently freaking out due to his bad experience. Whew... heavily colourful if you ask me.
DA:2 - cold, hard person. Likely still recovering from above event. He's distancing himself from everything to protect himself IMO, this might make his character seems bland. Then, he distance himself from "emotions" once again to focus on his job. If he's a colour he's definitely grey there, cold grey.
DA:I - a more warmer person than in DA2, maybe that's because he had finally started to believe what he's doing is actually serve for the better, that he's getting a second chance of everything he felt he had screwed up so far in his life. Doing his romance, spending time with him, helping him cope with his "condition" in either way gave much colour to his person.

So, that's to say, I'm not at all surprised to see Cullen as a gray/cold character in DA2. It really gives the magnificent pallet of his character, we've seen it in every colour now right?

Personally, I wouldn't call him cold and hard in DA2, but to each their own. I actually found his interactions over the six years with Hawke to be quite warm, and I headcanon them as friends.

In any case, he has definitely evolved quite a bit, even just over the course of DA2, IMO. These are among the many reasons I find him interesting.

Personally I still think that his hardest self shown up in that first meeting with Hawke (& that Wilmod guy). He only warm up a bit much much later IMO. Even then, it's on a much less scale than how he warms up to the quizzy (well, romanced). So while I'm comparing the range of his personality vs "colour" for the whole series, the whole Hawke - Cullen interaction is rather... cold/highly impersonal compared to the rest Cullen - Amell/Surana (feelings involved, then the Broken Circle), and Cullen-Inquisitor (possible romance involved). But you got points, if only DA2 is being considered, there are change of tones of the interaction from act 1 to act 3. Hawke can say friendly & warm things to him, which he reply in quite polite/friendly but still impersonal IMO. In how I saw it, Hawke tried to be friendly and Cullen tried to keep the distance & keep it purely professional. He did not offer the friendship either, Hawke did.

Well, that depends on how each person interpret his character like you said

Careful, we're causing a chair-falling cascade with all this hotness!

I don't suppose you have this in color too?  Not that the B&W isn't amazing, I just tend to prefer color stuff.

Also, I am pretty sure that Cullen can somehow actually see me through my computer screen in that shot, so I should go brush my hair or something, idk.  I'm all a-flutter.  Lawks.

I think I do - I just didn't like it as much as the lighting in the scene was tough. I'll post it up later!

*edit* I do have both of the ones I posted today in color.

I absolutely LOVE all the black and white shots you did. That's really powerful one you made, somehow it really brings out the focus to his eyes. On colour ones my focus fell often on his magnificent pauldron first, which as sad as I must admit, isn't actually as interesting as his eyes.

Somehow B&W shots on human subject really brings out the "human" side

I'm playing DA2 right now and I just had a convo with him in the gallows in Act 2, and he greeted my Hawke very warmly.  He congratulated him on his rising up from lowtown and was saying "What do you need my friend" or something like that. Not cold at all.

Honestly I wouldn't want him to be real unless in the magic required to make that happen he could only be mine forever. Otherwise it would be even more torture than it already is.

edit: sorry for the double-post, it's a bad habit. will consolidate multi responses for now on.

I'd rather imagine that his designer did have someone in mind (a construction worker, local fireman, guy on the bus) that is actually real and attainable, and not some star that lives in another universe from us "little folks."

And since you guys love the eyes, I have been holding back on one other black and white shot from the other day. It's a close crop of eyes and mouth, like the color ones I did a while back.  :D

Maybe someone can write a script that greg can read, and someone with mad skills can make the scene... a girl can dream....*sigh* cullen in a suit, with one shirt tail hanging out, tie skewed to the side, hair all mussed up, looking like he scrambled to get his clothes back on....oy...

Highlights of my Hawkes' interactions with Cullen in DA2:

Cullen: Mages aren't normal people like you and me!

Mage!Hawke:

Pro-Templar!Hawke: Hey, Cullen... there's an apostate over here *tilts head over to Anders* that's plotting against the Chantry... You know, maybe you should do something about it... *raises eyebrows*

Cullen: Yeah, I'm sure I'll do something about it soon.  It's not like I'm in the Gallows or anything with plenty of Templar back-up.

*dodges stones thrown in my direction*

*revokes my newly issued Cullenite card*

That would be a first.  A character in a video game that becomes more popular than any Hollywood actor, so they start "casting" him and his voice actor in other CGI films? I'd dig it.

Honestly though I'm usually not big on the hunky type with a few exceptions - like Tom Hardy for one. I usually go more for the tall lanky "edgy" type who isn't perfect looking, but Cullen's personality is what got me. I didn't really "fall" for him until my second PT of DA:I either. Sorry long-term Cullenites but it's the truth. I adored him in DA:O's mage origin of course but it was more like "aww, poor guy" and not TAKE ME NOW PLEASE.

It's not as bad as doing spells and blood magic right in the gallows without a reaction. My Hawke's reaction was basicly looks at staff then to Anders and smirked.

Yeah, doing blood magic in front of all those nobles during the duel with the Arishok was pretty awesome too ^_^ .

B&W photography is always meant to be more powerful and I think I understand why.  Certainly it can...I don't know, simplify is not the word I want, but it makes you look at the composition of the image rather than being distracted by pure tones, I guess?  I don't know why I've always been drawn to strong colors over monochrome, really.  I like pastels and quieter colors as well, but my very favorite colors have always been loud, bright, saturated ones.  (I have always harbored a secret desire to be bioluminescent as well.  Can you imagine??)  I always have to try to to train myself out of it if I do anything in Photoshop.  Maybe I just associate grey with sadness and melancholy enough that it seeps into my psychology.

Hope I haven't offended you or anything Melissa, it's definitely not that your shots are not amazing or that B&W is in any way 'worse'!  I'm just weird, I think. :S

Me too!  My first full PT of DA: I, I was all about Solas.  It wasn't until I actually gave Cullen's romance a chance in DA: I that I... crossed over to the Cullenite side

I fell for Blackwall (sorry don't hate, Solas doesn't do anything for me) as an elf first time around and I liked Cullen a lot but didn't really think about it.  Then I think I saw a video or a gif of a Cullenmance scene so I tried it out, then I was alllll in baby. And hey, when a relationship is a slow burn, doesn't it make it all the more romantic?  ^_^

edit: I saw a close-up pic of Chris Hemsworth somewhere the other day - I think with the right makeup, hair and eye contacts he could do Cullen justice if they ever do a live-action Dragon Age.  Maybe with Greg Ellis dubbing the lines - heh.  Speaking of, does anyone know if there has been talk about this? With Hollywood using comic books as source material and other games, I can't imagine they wouldn't consider doing a game like this. The movie is already written and clearly audiences love this genre.

Totally agree I'm more of a Fenris build kind of gal. My hubby's a twig. :P and I too didn't fall for cullen until DAI. I had to do my research prior to launch on who to romance and I wasn't keen on solas, and Dorian's stash weirded me out (little did I know at the time that he's aaaamazing!), so narrowing it down lead me to Cullen. And now I'm a gonner!! Cullen every damn time, moded dao, rushing to talk to him in da2. My love just worked backwards I guess :)

Just like real life!  You get to know someone better and you fall for them.  *sigh* But seriously, knowing what he's already been through in the prior games and talking to him about it, hearing how he feels and how he wants to move past it and become a better man, just really good storytelling. I also am a sucker for a guy who can get a bit angry, he kind of has it all.  He's tortured so he has depth but not too damaged where he's going to really mess you up (at least not yet - please BW don't go there).

My husband is pretty thin, not as twiggy as he was when we first started dating but thin. I weigh more than him and I'm a size 10!  Nice butt, though.
