Looks like HoDA's teasing another Cullen piece soon, for those interested... I still haven't managed to pick up the first one.

(did they have to show DA:I Cullen with the DA2 "mages aren't people" thing, though? blah)
B&W photography is always meant to be more powerful and I think I understand why. Certainly it can...I don't know, simplify is not the word I want, but it makes you look at the composition of the image rather than being distracted by pure tones, I guess? I don't know why I've always been drawn to strong colors over monochrome, really. I like pastels and quieter colors as well, but my very favorite colors have always been loud, bright, saturated ones. (I have always harbored a secret desire to be bioluminescent as well. Can you imagine??) I always have to try to to train myself out of it if I do anything in Photoshop. Maybe I just associate grey with sadness and melancholy enough that it seeps into my psychology.
Hope I haven't offended you or anything Melissa, it's definitely not that your shots are not amazing or that B&W is in any way 'worse'! I'm just weird, I think. :S
Yeah I can see what you mean. Grayscale & soft colours help keep *my* focus to elements other than colorful stuffs & all the emotions (purer than if colours are there). Somehow colours can influence *my* perception of the emotion within a picture so... B&W pics always makes it more "pure" in a way.
In Cullen case, I feel that he's wearing quite strong colours (that pauldron dark brown/purple/magenta, his "vest", his hair colour, etc) that brings my attention to the objects with these colours first before his eyes. He's wearing strong colours that I always associate mentally with a more happier tones. Yet, it's his eyes that speak most in his character IMO. I BW'ed some generic screenshots I took from game & it's huge different already, especially one focusing on his face.

Yeah, WTF? He doesn't feel like that anymore obviously.

It really all depends on the image. Sometimes going monochromatic can take an otherwise "meh" color image and take it to a whole new level. Other times, things can be lost in black and white. It also depends on the mood and feeling you are trying to convey. Monochromatics are great when you're trying to look super clean-cut (i.e. GQ), or maybe even cold and harsh. Then there's the whole realm of "black and white" that is not really "black and white." Some powerful images that you may think are monochromatic really aren't - there's a teeny bit of color in there, most usually blue or red, which would be called a "duotone."
I know it's OT, but it's a perfect example. This is one of my favorite pictures that I've taken (it was actually an oops):

BTW, this is actually a "duotone"
Now look at the same exact image in color:

It doesn't have the same "ooomph."
Ok, to pull us back on topic, here's Cullen examples of what I said above:

And you'll notice I added a watermark to the new one - I will go back and change all my already uploaded Cullen shots later. ![]()
Highlights of my Hawkes' interactions with Cullen in DA2:
Cullen: Mages aren't normal people like you and me!
Mage!Hawke:
Pro-Templar!Hawke: Hey, Cullen... there's an apostate over here *tilts head over to Anders* that's plotting against the Chantry... You know, maybe you should do something about it... *raises eyebrows*
Cullen: Yeah, I'm sure I'll do something about it soon. It's not like I'm in the Gallows or anything with plenty of Templar back-up.
I had shades of the same thing when my Lavellan was discussing Samson with him while sporting this fancy RED LYRIUM mage staff:

Granted its only because of hacking the game that she isn't wearing jammies, but it still made me chuckle ![]()

Whoa, where did you get that staff?
Melissa, which part of the game is that shot from? What's he smiling about?

There were some puzzles on the DA:I website at launch, if you solved the puzzles you got a weapon pack with that staff, a sword, and a dagger. All made of red lyrium. They're not high level or anything, though, on par with the ... of the Dragon stuff that you got for the Deluxe Edition.

Speaking of, for the those who ot he deluxe stuff...I can anver bring myself to wear the "armor of the dragon"...it is so...ugly and ungainly looking to me. Reminds me of a bad prom dress in the 80's or something. Anyone else feel the same (or differently)?

I can't wear it, either. The staff and bow look pretty sweet, but the armor...not my thing :/

LMAO! I agree. It is awful. I put it on the first time I got it and said, "Nope" then immediately removed it. Hell its not just the way it looks on a mage, but everyone.
But to be honest, most of the armor in the game is awful. However this is a discussion best left suited else where.
Now where we we....ahh yes, Cullen. Mmmmm Cullen.

I feel the opposite - the dragon armor is too beautiful and glamorous for running around in the mud and killing dime-a-dozen bandits in, so I can only wear it to ceremonial scenes like Vivenne's salon, the Therinfall audience with the nobles, and the Orlesian ball, where you're supposed to be looking all luxurious.
Hehehe... NSFW maybe?

Yeah... i agree. I don`t like the armor, at least in the female characters (i haven`t made a male IQ yet). But i do like the weapons
, specially the staff and the sword.

I positively hate the white/orange/gold version you get at the start. I like crafting my own version in better colors once I get the patterns, though.
Cullen, though... he thinks Quizzy is cute in anything... ![]()

Eyeroll. Just more fodder for the "even he didn't like himself in DA2" comments.Looks like HoDA's teasing another Cullen piece soon, for those interested... I still haven't managed to pick up the first one.

Oh, I love this scene!
Quizzy: Something on your mind, Cullen?
Cullen: Everything.
Daaaaammmmmnnn... *fans self*

Depends on the color. This is my (or should I say Cullen's) Eve, in hers:

Melissa, which part of the game is that shot from? What's he smiling about?
It's from the end of In Hushed Whispers when he says "Join us..."

Yes, horribly ugly to my eyes - never use it.
Baaaaaahaha, love this!! Quizzy's face at the end!! Pillow talk must be so epic with him...and yess...nsfw but clicked on it anyway...Hehehe... NSFW maybe?
Spoiler
I might like the armor if it was more... form fitting? I don't like the bulky look of it. *puts on flame shield*
Some funny screenshots with Cullen.

Oh btw, thanks to whomever linked the WSJ article earlier, it was an interesting read. I was a bit disappointed that they seemed to focus on the heterosexual relationships only, and didn't delve into the hugely popular area of women enjoying m/m relationships in their fiction.
LOL that's funny, because I don't like how form fitting some of the armors are. I worry my elf will get broken in half. Luckily there are a range of styles.I might like the armor if it was more... form fitting? I don't like the bulky look of it. *puts on flame shield*
