I see it more as a general feedback thread. My answer to your question is just so-so. Sadly, not many participated. The ones who did made an effort though (well, most of them). It's probably easier to make hundreds of "complain" threads in which devs and others get attacked than to put some serious thought into some constructive feedback. *Sigh* Feels like fighting a lost battle but at least there were no personal insults.

I plan to participate :) It's just been a tough work week. When I come home I just fall onto the couch, sleep for 2-3 hours, then watch TV or play Sims lol I haven't had time for forum stuff :( I even four, yes four, PMs waiting for me in my inbox; haven't responded to them b/c I feel I should give each person my full attention and that's hard to do at work (where I am now).

*ninja'd by R2 on several points :P *

As far as the rest, people like role playing. Defining things about a character simply to define them restricts the ability to role play. Alistair's lack of experience was relevant to his development and interactions with the Warden and the choices you may make through the game (I found it very uncomfortable to ask an unromanced Alistair to do the DR, for one.)

Me, too, but I was vastly more uncomfortable doing it myself  Tbh everything about the DR is squicky and gross. It's so... 2009.

But overall... I do feel like they're responding to the fans concerns in other ways. Like the ripples the ME3 ending had through the gaming-o-sphere or even the controversy over Anders hitting on Hawke leading to lack of LI's taking the initiative.

Which makes me so mad. Just because some straight male gamers were afraid of The Gay they went and changed a game mechanic that a lot of us liked. (The thing most of us REASONABLY objected to was the fact that you can't turn him down without being a total douche.)

They also got rid of personalities for the main character, too, thanks to all the whining about Hawke's split personality :( Hence our dull-toned inquisitors.

So... after arriving at Skyhold, my Lavellan managed to do all this (because, yeah...)

1. Flirt with Cullen

2. Flirt with Sera

3. Make out with Solas in the Fade

4. Agree to just be friends with Solas after the Fade kiss

5. Flirt with Blackwall on the Battlements (which locks her into a relationship with him)

Now I'm not sure if Solas will bring up the kiss again if she's already in a relationship (since when he did the last time, she was single).  I guess we'll see how far this polyamory bug can go  :wizard:

*snips pretty lady*

Well with that outfit, who can blame them all for falling all over her  (The modder did a top notch job; I love all the pj-restyles coming out. Just hope some of them make it so I can use the Nexus Mod Manager...)

They didn't get rid of it, they added it to the dialogue wheel to allow players to give the Inquisitors their own personality

Granted it could use a few tweaks, but it's a really good idea for dealing with non-set characters like the Inquisitor and even the Warden

In theory, but the responses and line readings are far more bland that Hawke's.

The neutral responses were, the tone wheel however wasn't

But like I said it could definitely use a few tweaks to get it right

Yeah it could use some tweaks. Make it like DA2 again; I loved that lol Also they got rid of the MC's persistant personality. So no off the cuff sarcastic comments or angry comments. It's going to be hard making inquisitors who are distinct from one another.

I for one am NOT a head-cannon person in general when it comes to games, especially DA. I rather have it played out for me in the game then play the imagination game in my head. That would be like me seeing a movie and being left out on some key information but simply drum it up in my head.

I have no issues with those who to chose to do such either by writing a story and/or their opinion. The problem with Bioware is they waffle too much.

First they don't want to go too far and ****** fans off and then they don't want to attempt it all because it will ****** fans off. Bioware should realize that you cannot please everyone and they should just do what they want to do while taking snips of fan suggestions.

I thought the Cullen romance was good but it does have some issues-which I shall not get into.

Furthermore Bioware should be aware the lore, the story, the companions and romancing is what draws me into this game. I could care two bits less if the environment is pretty. Its just a cherry on a sundae for me.

Dragon Age 2 was on the low end of graphics and design. BUT the story was good. Personally I think Bioware got too hung up with this new engine like a kid in a candy store and neglected a lot of important stuff.

In my opinion DAI should have been launched later on this year.

But I digress and have rambled on far too long. Back to DAI and more Cullen time. Mmmm Cullen.

So, less than 150 pages to Page 5000. Can folks try to keep their posts succinct in the run up to Page 5000? Try to use multiquote, stay on topic, if it doesn't need to be said in a whole post, think twice about posting? It would be nice to sssslllloooowwww down our 20 pages a day rate.

It seems like you've been busy Artemis. If possible, could you please try to Multi Quote or edit your responses so as to keep the total post count down, as per R2s request? I for one, don't mind if posts are a little longer, but in one box. It seems like 5000 is going to be here too fast if we aren't a little more economical. :o

And to keep on topic, I hadn't seen these sketches on the thread before.

I have a blast playing several distinct personalities in this game. You can play with plenty of snark...or straight-laced all-business KISA, or aggressive jerk. My current character is all-business, but she can throw some snark in there or an aggressive response and it all just works. I can easily see the parallel between the three Hawke personality types, except I don't hear the "split personality" type responses that Hawke could often get, especially when trying to play an aggressive character.

A couple perfect examples are with AWR in the snark department:

  • Wicked Hearts about "the elves were acting dodgy."
  • In Hushed Whispers about "magical time control, just go with it."

With both of these I had a good snarf.

Of course, this is all just what I hear.

The tone wheel is when images shows up to represent the response: like an eye with the tear, a head with question marks, an angry look, etc

Those showed emotion and helps you try to forge your own personality for your character

EDIT: when do you guys think that we'll hit the 5K pages? Things are slowing down now, but if it'll happen this week end then I'll post my fanfic & banners now in AO3 & photobucket & ask someone to link that here :(

Hard to say. Today's the first day we've actually succeeded in slowing down. We used to do 10 pages a day, now we're doing 20. Realistically, we've got 1 - 1.5 weeks left.

Maybe the English male VA just doesn't do as good a job as AWR. I often selected a response, felt it was too boring, so reloaded and selected a different response... not much difference in tone or attitude. There was also the annoying fact that they were often just a sad variation of the same line. Like I could support the inquisition in a polite way, a funny way, or an angry way, but... I still had to support the inquisition.

The tone wheel is when images shows up to represent the response: like an eye with the tear, a head with question marks, an angry look, etc

Oh I see. Yes I do like that because it gives us even MORE personalities to choose from! But still, imo, they are NOT emotive enough. I selected the "tear" several times and my character, well, he didn't sound sad at all. He just sounded kind of bored. It's just not as intense as Hawke's emotions. Hawke felt like a real person. The inquisitor feels like, well, an avatar in a video game. (Also helps that s/he doesn't really have a name like "Hawke" or "Shepard" that everyone calls him/her.)

... And I just lost my train of thought b/c someone from student services just called me looking for another teacher, like, do I look like an answering service to you lol Urgh.

Another topic I'd rather us avoid digging into.

Do you mean our LI not hitting on us first in DAI? I thought it was a valid topic of conversation, especially since this is a character thread *shrugs*

doooo iiiiit!

Page 5000 Update

Page 5000 is approaching. We probably have less than 2 weeks, unless folks start to slow down. Consider: judicious use of multiquote, stay on topic, and Like.

** Be sure to let me know if you think you will participate. Especially if you're not sure if you'll be around.

** If anyone needs an AO3 invite, I have more. PM me. Don't forget we have an AO3 Collection for the celebrations.

THE THEME
The theme that has emerged is "Thanks for the memories!"  What does this mean? Whatever you want it to, so long as it's Culleny. Get inspired by memories, nostalgia, thanks for game, thoughts on the end of the game, thoughts on what happens after the game, favorite memory from the game, favorite memory from being a Cullen fan, looking back, looking forward, whatever.

Also, it doesn't have to follow the theme. That's just for inspiration, for those who want some. It just has to be Culleny.

WHAT TO CONTRIBUTE
Describe your fave memory from in game, or post a screenshot of it. Write a poem inspired by memories. Make a drink recipe that induces a black out of memories. Art, photomanip, fanfic, screenshot, text, banter, dialogue, drink recipe, limerick, fic, whatever. Go for it. All is good, so long as it's Culleny. Ask if you need suggestions for places to post fic or art, etc. For fic longer than ~500 words, post elsewhere and post a link here.

THE GROUND RULES

1. No jibber jab on Page 5000 itself. Only celebration posts. Wait til page 5001 to chat.

2. Take only one post for yourself. If you have multiple things, post them all in one post. There are only 25 slots a page.

3. When we get to the page, stop posting, reload to ensure you know the page you're on, wait for the go ahead.

4. If you won't be here, let me know, and I will have a placeholder for you.

5. NSFW stuff: This is OK, but only in a link to elsewhere and if tagged as such so that folks can choose whether to see it or not. Posting inside spoiler tags is not enough.

Let me know if you have questions on whatever.

The controversy surrounding Anders and The Gay thing. It keeps bubbling up over the past few days. Same reason we don't talk about playsexuality. Leads to badness.

I really did like that facial tone wheel from DA2. I knew when I was going to be extremely inappropriate with a snarky remark, hence our "boneless women flopping around" line. :) I was pleasantly surprised by the male vo in this game since I wasnt a fan of male shep where I couldn't even get an hour into his pt, and never played a male hawke.

I know we've head cannoned why Cullen's personality is so different in this game versus DA2, coming from the kinloch hold tragedy and thereby being more cold versus now...but in reality the vo direction has proven to be much better in characters we can compare against. Varric, cassy, cullen, and everyone else we've seen come back (alistair!! *le swoon*) just seem to perform better with their lines. However, it does seem to be at the sacrifice of a more safer protag, and again, it could have been in response to another popular ME complaint that rebel shep was just eeeevil (mordin...noooo!). I am NOT going to get into the art and artist and audience topic, but I'll echo some people on here, this game lacked the passion of conviction and righteousness that I felt in the other games because of the very vocal minority being upset in the past...
I'll just keep replaying the cullen scenes to get the passion :P :)

Just an update on my participation in the 5K celebration and the Cullen fic I was and am writing. I took some time last night to think and just let the annoyance drain itself out of my system, and since I woke today with a clear mind...well I intend to try and write the fic and finish it as I had originally planned. So, I am going to try and get it done before the celebration...I don't know what could had been with my original story, but this version...well I hope you guys will like it. Sorry, for the glumness yesterday and the OT. I am much more my usual self now that I have a cleared mind.

Ooooo so you play on console or pc? I hope these pc patches don't make this impossible for me!! Last time I played a fem elf, sera came on to me when I was in the midst of romancing cullen, it was so bizarre, I had to awkwardly turn her down... quizzy was all  still need to end with cullen on the balcony...overall, very happy with his romance except I would've liked more party banter in the field about him. I can see Dorian trying to get the juicy details or Viv giving some motherly piece of advice that's really awkward.

Just wanted to thank everyone who kindly offered to beta my Cullen fic for the 5000 page celebration :) You are all awesome, and I appreciate your readiness to help :)

Ideally, I will have both a fic and a portrait of Cullen to contribute. Let us see how quickly the thread will move compared to how quickly I can draw :P

So the Dell guy came by and replaced my video card and fan!!!!!! We ran around in DAI for about five minutes and everything seemed fine. So, fingers crossed!!!! Oh and I had everything on Ultra setting just to test it.

Okay, so I am just starting the Hinterlands :) I would like to make this my completionist playthrough. Does anyone know of a site or link that lists all the things to collect, find, quests to complete, etc. on each map? Yes I'm going to be one of those persons who stays in the Hinterlands for 20 hours

If you know of something like that, go ahead and PM it to me so we don't add more fluff to the thread and make it move too fast.
