Morning folks. Awesome, awesome job slowing down the thread. As another reminder:
--please try to use multiquote if you can,
--stay on topic,
--limit unnecessary jibba jabba that could be accomplished by a Like or a PM.

Also, welcome new folks! Best thread on the BSN. Stay a while!

Page 5000 approaching. We'll hit in about 1.5 weeks, later if we keep a more sedate pace. Keep those creations rolling! I'm back to the drawing board on my story, trying to decide on part of the ending. :( Maybe my inspiration will flow better this weekend when crazy work calms.

Fiancée, we're not married yet

Yeah I got him single Dad for fanfic purpose. Usually I'd go by a worldstate for 2 fanfics, I've got one published (Amell visit Cullen) & the other one's for the 5K

Actually I killed my quizzy for story reason (RIP, her face is my avatar).

Nah I don't think we'll ever see the disbandment in game DLC actually, but it's surely an interesting point to see in the next game (aka DA4).

About Cullen proposing, the only place I can see it is her balcony. The view's magnificent indeed! Or maybe somewhere in Ferelden? Crestwood's nice actually when it's not raining. Or emerald graves for Dalish quizzy

Yeah, I picture him proposing on the balcony too then again I have another one where he takes her back to the lake and proposes there. It's a place that makes him happy, in childhood, then again where they first did the deed and now when she says yes.

I then see them 'retiring' from the Inquisition, he takes up a post as a knight in Redcliffe and they move to a small cottage just on the outskirts of the village where my mage Trevelyan becomes the local healer while he does his knight thing. They raise 4 children, 3 girls and a boy and live happily ever after.

Maybe it just stems from my own choices irl that I don't think they need a ring or ceremony to solidify their commitment to each other. We know that this isn't the end for the Inquisition (in fact, I think things are just beginning) and it just seems off-character (at least to me) to stop everything for a wedding, like it would be the last thing on their minds. They love each other and have made a commitment to be together and that is enough. I can see why others would want it though. I do think, however, that Bioware will leave this open for head canons rather than actually introduce it simply because there are so many different opinions on the matter. The same can be said for the "babies" discussion. Some like the idea and others not so much (me in the NOPE! camp).

*edit* I also wanted to add that I am a sad panda in finding out the Cheat Engine is now causing my game to crash since the last patch. No more armor in Skhyold for me! I need to find some nice jammies - as lore-friendly as possible.   :(

S**t, really? I was just about to break down and install cheat engine so my Dalish warrior could run around in her armor. PJs, no matter how pretty, still have the same issues for me in Skyhold on a Dalish, sigh; recoloring them just isn't worth the effort to install a mod that will only last until the next patch. I wish they'd let go of the obsessive hold over how people have to see their IQs. OK, frostbite creates pretty landscapes. But every artistic decision they make about how anyone must look is much more aggravating when the decision makes a lot of people unhappy (hair and PJs near the top of the list).

As far as the marriage thing, if they release a DLC mod in which any IQ can marry any LI (except Solas for obvious reasons at the moment), and it's optional (preferably with some fun content for those who don't want to have their IQs married), I have no problem with it. If you make it LI specific or people don't feel like they have a choice, you're going to have a huge backlash, and frankly, creating that DLC will use of a lot of resources for a limited group of players. I can think of a lot of things I'd like to see them put the resources into instead. Additional romance content, awesome. Harding's romance actually going farther than a suggestion of a drink in the tavern, I'd be dancing. Man, I'd love to see my Zhenya and Harding getting into a bar fight with someone who didn't know Zhenya was the Inquisitor (maybe with Cullen and Cass being called to break things up :P.)

Aww. Cullen felt like home in Haven. I like how the dialog changes in game depending on when you ask the characters questions.

lol This is what I imagine too. He would propose to her on the balcony in the morning, starting with something like 'There is something I want to tell you...' There will be no surprise proposal since he is a master of second guessing. He couldn't have pulled out a surprise one. But this would be close to the decomposition of the Inquisition after all their work was done. Cullen often treats duties and work above his personal life.

In my canon, they would create history as they would be the first mage/(ex)templar couple in Southern Thedas acknowledged and approved by the Chantry. They would travel around the world for bit before they would settle down for a quite life. And of course, happily ever after.lol

Oh I don't think anyone here seriously imagined they'd make a dlc on it, right? Too much of a personal preference and side component of the story as a whole. I do think that a future DLC will reveal to us the future of the Inquisition and will thereby effect our own canons. If it's disbanded, alrighty then, off they go into the sunset! If not, and more epic sh*t hits the fan, which is more likely, we'll have to make some tweaks to their relationship.

I just can't see them ever being able to "retire" from the Inquisition. After becoming the most powerful person in Thedas, can there ever be a way to just disappear and go live the "the American Dream?" I think Blackwall put it perfectly when he said "the person you were before is gone now." That'd be like Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt suddenly quitting Hollywood and moving in down the street, and not expect people to notice them. Or a monarch being like "NOPE" and walking way from their throne. I also don't see Cullen being happy with the "quaint" life. He's used to action, and commanding an army. I see both of them going completely stir-crazy.

But that's just me! I like to envision them living a life by the sword, full of passion and living one day to the next - never knowing what each day will bring. Total life in the fast lane. Heavy metal and muscle cars...ok well now I'm just talking about myself.  Ooo! This sums it up!

And thanks guys - I did install these jammies:

Since you can see them under crafted armor I wanted to go with as neutral a color as possible.

<3 to your hubby, sounds beautiful! Wonder where cullen would do it? What's a gorgeous place in thedas, I don't remember seeing any  emprise du lion is pretty but coooold. Maybe the forbidden oasis? Riight, good vacation spot after you kill off the random lone giant who meanders into the water. :P

I guess I just haven't played out the disbanded inquisition far enough in my head. if that happens, and trouble doesn't find them (which I'm sure it will because not everyone loves the inquisition and there were the two more powerful people in it!), it could happen.

you got me curious on that yadayada part of your fanfic! Is cullen a single daddy in that one?? Oooo, daddys are hot!!! :) cullen daddy....mmmmm....*shivers*

I sort of picture Cullen proposing by the lake, where he gave the Quizzy the coin. When things settle, they return there, and he pops the question :)

It would probably be a bit more romantic than what happened to me. I just had a little black jewelry box slid across the table in my direction at a restaurant (it wasn't even the fancy place we were supposed to go to, since we missed our reservation). No questions, no words, no nothing... Just a very embarrassed man, beet-red to the tips of his ears. I was like: "Nooooooo.... Are you kidding me?!"

The funny thing is that my hubby is such a manly man, doesn't take any crap from anyone, very blunt, outspoken, outgoing, but when it comes to feelings. Man... He's like a 13-year-old :P

Still said yes :P

Oh, and I found this cute little comic by Yuroboros:

I can't actually see either of them wanting to retire from the Inquisition in my PTs, or at least not from active life. Cullen's all about trying to protect people and make a difference, which is one of the things I love about him. The closest I could see to them retiring would be accepting a title and lands somewhere or a position at someone's court where they could exercise their influence to protect people and improve things. I see the Inquisition itself continuing for at least several years, though, until the chantry and whatever reformed mage/templar system have stabilized and things are more peaceful (if ever.)

Totally with you on this, the lake is perfect. They'd go back and he'd give her an even luckier charm... swoon

I'm a voracious reader, so I got a bargain table book with a hole cut out inside for the ring box. He put the dust cover of a book I really wanted on it and wrapped it up ;)

I can actually see Mia wanting them to get married more than they do. Maybe just showing up at Skyhold and dragging them to the Chantry for a quick, small ceremony and then they go back to life as it was because, well, they're kind of already married anyway.

The thing about the Inquisition is that it won't last forever. If it serves it's purpose it will have to be disbanded and then what? Cullen may be used to a life of hurry and busy and protecting everyone, but he's never had a family if his own to protect. I can see that being enough once all is said and done.

This is why I see him still protecting but in a reduced capacity, he can't stop but he slows down. My quizzy never wanted that life and would rather prefer the quiet life. Yes, anonymity would be impossible but the people of Redcliffe are quite happy to let them be and are proud that they chose their village to settle in.

Re. the nightmares, I've said this a few times before, but I thought she was pretty nonchalant about them in the bed scene. She immediately asks "bad dreams?" instead of asking what's wrong, and if you pick the middle dialogue option she says "despite the bad dreams, is it still a good morning?" like it's such a common and inevitable part of waking up with him that it's not worth lingering on. She does a little jump at the beginning of the scene, but to me it looks like she was trying not to startle him and then got a little startled herself by his sudden trashing.

On the first time versus not, though... Brienne has said that whether it was their first time or not was left deliberately vague (like many other aspects of their relationship) so everyone could see it as they prefer, so this is probably best left to each person's headcanon. There are reasons to think it wasn't, but some players prefer to think it was and their reasons are good too... I've even seen a compelling argument for an asexual relationship between Cullen and IQ, and the game is vague enough to acommodate even that headcanon, if that's what you wanna see, so. Every interpretation is valid, it's all in how each of us prefers to see things.

My thoughts on the whole nightmare thing is that they may have had sex previously but not necessarily slept together. Like by the lake, very good possibility more happened after the scene we saw, but then they had to get back to Skyhold, wouldn't be very safe to camp out and sleep there just the two of them alone like that.

Also, they possibly did not spent the night at each others quarters previously because they were trying to keep things relatively private. And then the sex scene we do see, I think it kind of cements the relationship since they talk about being together after their mission is done. So perhaps they now feel more comfortable being open about their relationship and sleeping over and such.

Oh, see none of my quizzies were down with the quiet life. I have:

  • One who was training to become a templar anyways - she's a soldier through and through.
  • One who is brash, defiant of social norms and expectations, and did mercenary work before the Conclave despite being from a noble house. She's going to be the closest thing I'll have to a "me" personality.
  • One who was the black sheep of her family and preferred to spend more time with "seedier sorts" than at noble social gatherings. She's a bit of a...playah.
  • Dalish rogue more comfortable outside who hates the idea of being tied down to anything.

I haven't really established a suitable backstory for my Dalish mage (my avatar) yet.

This is an interesting thought. I don't know if he'd really let Mia, or other family members influence him so much on the idea. He knows what he wants, but acting on it is up to whether he thinks it's "right", or if he's deserving enough. It's a funny scenario to imagine though.

I feel like the idea would appeal to him because, as a templar, chances were kind of low he'd have the opportunity anyway. He might jump at the chance, particularly if the IQ is a mage. I can see him wanting to make it "official" as a declaration to some of the less tolerant folks. He's Andrastian, so that's another reason it might appeal to him. Joined in the Maker's light, etc ... He's the kind of guy who appreciates rules and a little formality. You know, as long as the inquisitor was into it  : D

I'm also inclined to think that he would propose, but that they wouldn't actually get married until all the major crises were averted, so it could take a while.
