I've said this before...
When Cullen takes you to his favorite spot, I thought this would have been a perfect time for him to propose. Alas I know not every is keen on marriage in or out of the game. Thus an option could have been, "We don't need to get married."
Crazy that you can propose to Sera but no Cullen proposing to your character. <sighs>
Oh well.
Even though that option is not in the game I just run around and say, "Well, time to go see my character's husband."

I agree that marriagebisn't going to be at the forefronts of either of their minds. I do wonder, however, how long they can get away with carrying on before she's got a little Rutherford in the oven. With the Warden that was never a concern but unless they at art claiming the mark maks you infertile it's likely iinevitable. If that happens I imagine Mia would be up with a rolling pin and beat you both up to the altar.
Hell I picture Mia showing up at Skyhold, grabbing Cullen by the ear and dragging him to the Skyhold Chantry. ![]()

I really don't think that proposal to Sera was serious - it really looked like they were joking. I know interpretation and all that, but that seemed very clear cut to me. And that time on the lake, they were still getting to know each other, would be kind of rushed wouldn't it? Their first getaway?

Well, the only problem I would have with that is that I start his romance so late that it's the next scene after the first kiss. So, "Will you marry me?" is a little... sudden.
Even for my head-over-heels in love quizzy. ![]()

To get Anomen to pop the question, you had to go through all of Baldur's Gate 2 and more than halfway through Throne of Bhaal... Nice and easy is the way to go

I have never heard Cullen say this. Explain please how and when this triggers.
I too want to know! Every day I discover something new about this game.
You have to go through all of Act 1 (Haven) without asking Cullen how he feels about being back in Ferelden. When you use that dialogue option at Skyhold, his lines change to include the bit about Haven feeling like home.

There were ways around it - there were def forms of medieval birth control (just google it). Not to mention there's magic in the DA universe. It's entirely viable to head canon that they went at it like rabbits and still didn't get pregnant.

I think the problem with it is that players who don't opt for marriage would consider it unfair that those who do get extra content, or somehow be made to feel they are wrong for not choosing it (sorta like how folks choosing to keep Cullen on lyrium were treated like black sheep for a bit).

Maybe Qunari hair was a firm of birth control?
If that's true, Bull would have the Inquisitor chasing after him, tweezers in hand, with the same kind of crazed urgency that George Constanza suffers from when trying to open up a condom

I have no prob with Red Templar Cullen. I actually really like his "what if" fears we get to see in his nemesis quest line. There's a very good fic on AO3 about a Red Templar Cullen I've been reading:

I agree it really puts a whole new twist on it. I say anything that brings out the creativity in anyone is a great thing. Like the story so far two. Melissa your art is really wonderful by the way. Never played as a mage still felt for Cullen in DAO. Now I read there's more in 2! So thanks to all you on here if I get my butt handed to over an over I'm going back to play them. An a big thanks too DAI I feel it's time to play that version of the story's. I really had no idea Cullen had such a big fan base an you guys here have discussions and make me feel comfortable to post. So thanks all you wonderful people on here cause live out in the boonies it gets lonely sometimes with just hubby and the boys. Anyways keep them coming

Well I'm gonna move on from this point, and hopefully I'll figure out how to do it by the time it happens again. I wonder if it's a bug. I never got the option in my first playthrough.
I'm on PC but it worked the same as the dialogue wheel basically, I just clicked one of the three answers. It doesn't give you much time to respond though IME and is easy to interrupt by combat or moving too far away, but it's probably the same keys you'd use for regular cutscene dialogue, I would guess. (I ended up getting some other kind of bug where the

So what? Players who chose not to say "yes" to Cullen's marriage proposal simply would not get the extra dialogue. I was not suggesting there should be a wedding in the game-that would be nice but probably not in Bioware's line-up to do so- just a proposal.
If people feel as though the "Lake scene" is too soon, then perhaps at the end of the game when Cullen follows your Inquisitor into her room.
Just a suggestion and most likely won't happen. But it would have been nice.
And I'm not even going to comment on the lyrium bit, <bites tongue>.

As someone who plays a lot of SWTOR, declining a marriage proposal in a game is kind of awkward, even if you are nice about it and want to stay together. I don't know, it would still feel like pressure to conform to an expectation, even of there was a built-in escape hatch, and a lot of people would rather not have to even deal with it. From my experience, it's easier to headcanon in a proposal/marriage than it is to headcanon around an unwanted proposal.

I can actually see Mia wanting them to get married more than they do. Maybe just showing up at Skyhold and dragging them to the Chantry for a quick, small ceremony and then they go back to life as it was because, well, they're kind of already married anyway.
The thing about the Inquisition is that it won't last forever. If it serves it's purpose it will have to be disbanded and then what? Cullen may be used to a life of hurry and busy and protecting everyone, but he's never had a family if his own to protect. I can see that being enough once all is said and done.
I have always wondered what kind of relationship they have. He left home at an early age for the Templars who don't encourage family attachments. He goes years without writing and is apparently not a good letter writer. I don't think the game says when they saw each other last. I think he cares about his family but I always saw it as a little distant.

I wonder if it could be done by letting the player choose the option to start the dialogue. That way even the proposal would be optional for those who want it. Just a thought.
