@Melissa, I am so pissed because on my last PT I could not find Cullen anywhere in the Arbor Wilds.  I ran into Leliana and she fought with me, but I was panning the camera around like crazy in every little pocket on the way to the temple and just did not see or hear him.

Yeah, I actually meant Temple of Dumat.

But, yes, Cullen should appear in the Arbor Wilds just before you get to the temple. He will be fighting a group of enemies.

Cullen was at the Temple of Dumat?  Was this only if you allied with the mages?  I conscripted the Templars and he wasn't there.

Yes, you go there for a different quest with Cullen if you side with the mages.

Alrighty guys - have a few more Alistair/Cullen comparisons. Please note that Alistair is actually proving to be easier to get shots of since he actually appears outside. I can't wait to get to the Temple of Mythal with Cullen so I can try and get some decently lit shots of him:

Spoiler

Wow. I always thought Alistair was sexy, but in comparison to Cullen, well... Cullen wins.

Holy crap - does this stuff really show in the epilogue in Origins if you side with the Templars? I don't remember this at all. From the Wiki.

Once the tower was rebuilt, Knight-Commander Greagoir stepped down from his post and retired to a life of private contemplation as a brother in the Chantry. His health failed over time, and after refusing treatment, he perished in his sleep. Knight-Commander Cullen was said to be more strict and less trusting of the mages even than Greagoir was. He ruled the Circle with fear.

And this if you side with the mages?

The young templar Cullen never quite recovered from his ordeal. After months of attempting to convince his superiors that the tower was still a danger, he finally snapped and killed three apprentices before being stopped by his fellow templars. Eventually, Cullen escaped from prison, a madman and a threat to any mage he encountered.

I think those slides only appear if you selected the mage origin to begin with. They might also disappear if you then choose to free the Circle from Chantry control... can't remember. But yes. I've seen the second one.

And promptly head canoned it out of existence. Thankfully BioWare did the same.

It's been a long time since I've done a mage, I just plain don't remember these.  But of course I'm paying more attention to his character now. I just noticed on his Wiki page that it was determined that these were just "rumors".  Nice save Bioware. Normally I hate retconning but in this case I'll allow it :).

There's also the fact that the ending slides were buggy when Origins released, so unless you were playing with one of the mods that fixed them all, they might not have fired for you even if they were supposed to.

The idea of Cullen essentially becoming Meredith at her worst...  :crying:

Since we discussed Alistair yesterday (okay, we drooled over his screenshots)  some of you might be interested in the ringtones that Steve Valentine recorded. He uploaded them yesterday and you can purchase them here. I like the ones for the answering machine  . Unfortunately for me, people who call me would probably think they had dialed the wrong number if they hear an English audio message, so I'm afraid I have to pass. Still, I would like to know if you can pay with paypal. So if someone buys a ringtone, let me know, please, if that's an option. And you've got to hand it to Mr Ellis that he didn't charge anything for his ringtones. (Not that I'm ungrateful.)

No, but it's funny because I had an idea for a fanfic in which Cullen takes over the role of a detective and solves a murder. LOL. Great minds thing alike, I guess  :P

Okay, I've got a question for the fanfic readers and writers. It's off topic, so I put spoiler tags around it.

Yeah, I saw Greg Ellis' take on Cullen answering the phones and it's MAGNIFICENT! If I'm not using my personal cell phone for professional use, I'd be using them by now.

I love detective stories! (Yesssss....! MURDERS! ). Go for it!

I read other people's fanfic. Reading about the other people's Inquisitors & headcannons is like reading about other people's Warden. The point of DA:O & DA:I & DA2 is that in the same world with the same backbones, a million different stories can be told.

IMO it's not a good idea to try to "harmonize" your story to other people's preferences. IMO it's better you tell the story you want to tell. That's my opinion however, I know that some people tried to write stories that'll accomodate the maximum reader's headcannons.

No, I agree that writers should write the story they want to tell. I was just wondering why other people would want to read it since the character (my Warden) is not conform with their own characters (their Wardens). But thank you for you reply. It helped a bit :).

I kinda wish there was some Barris/Cullen banter. It would be interesting to hear them discuss their feelings on the current situation of the order. Considering how important it has been or still is to them.

I kinda wish there some more BARRIS ANYTHING. I can't believe we never even got to talk to him again. I mean... I can talk to the random Dalish kid, but Barris isn't around? Maybe the crowds of admirers were too big, so they had to relocate him. :P

Yeah, fully retconned, since not only do they not fit with his character any longer, they  defy the facts of what actually happened. They in fact started retconning it with Witch Hunt when the mages gossip that he was sent to Greenfell to "level out."

You know, you might find the Cullen thread FAQ of interest. Its in the second or third post in the OP. I need to update it now for DA:I.

Personally, it wouldn't matter to me if you write your warden in a different manner to how I played mine, I would enjoy your writing on the basis of it being a good story. If there are familiar characters and elements in it, that will always a bonus for me but I wouldn't feel any conflict reading "your" wardens take on Thedas.

I'm not very good at the whole role-playing thing so I find it fascinating to read about other peoples characters, personalities, ideas and motivations, they are always more imaginative and exciting than mine ever are

So for me, no, it wouldn't matter that the story is about your warden and not one of mine :)

I haven't been posting much in the last few days, trying not to spam up the thread with nonsense pre 5k

Just wanted to say that your screenshots are an absolute delight Melissa, even hubby had to double take, thinking they were photos :)

Maybe it's because your Warden would be different? That's reason enough for me at least. You know, if everyone's wardens are the same what a boring world we would have!

Seconded. Well, Bioware, you know your homeworks. Guess that there are many many people who's quite interested in Ser Barris character :P

I've never had those slides but I know they exist. Like R2s said, fully retconned. Almost immediately after release Bioware made a big point of saying that the Origins epilogue slides should not be considered canon (though I do think they could have found it within them to change the name of the Gull & Lantern to the Grey Warden's Rest <_< ). Anyway, yes. If you hear disparaging, "Cullen went nutso" comments, it's usually because of those slides.

IIRC, Cullen asked Cassandra to find a replacement for him in Perseverance (Cullen's personal quest).

Withdrawal symptoms that I can manage to remember from in-game:

- headaches (war table banter, Leliana asked him whether he's well & he responded that he has headaches)

- his nightmares (from Kinloch Hold I assume) got worse without lyrium

- he's tired (if you put him back to Lyrium, you get a cutscene in the blacksmith when he said that he's less tired now & didn't realize how much the withdrawal tire him before)

You can also see this

http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Lyrium

And you might probably use DA:O's Templar Irminic (that guy imprisoned in Howe's Denerim estate dungeon) symptoms as reference. Or read the codex entry "Confession of a Lyrium Addict"

But I guess that Cullen got it on lower degree compared to Irminic.

Adding to this that many sources suggest you will lose your mind, at a minimum, and perhaps die, at an extreme, if you go off lyrium cold turkey. In Asunder, Evangeline says that she'll start to the see the effects after a week, and start to lose her mind after a month.

Exactly. I imagine that Evangeline would have been close to, if not at the same, level as Cullen, in terms of lyrium consumption. So in that regard, I think she's a good benchmark.

Ouch... ouch ouch ouch ouch. Urrgh it's... I don't want to think whether Cullen's already losing his mind or not. It's been many months :crying:

Maker please keep a finger on his shoulder...

Okay guys, which is sexiest: a short scar on top of left cheekbones + a short scar on the right lip, or an extended scar that went from the right lip to the lower part of the cheekbone?

Anyway, did you guys hear that Greg Ellis recording all Cullen swearings for the ringtone? I didn't hear half of them in-game, like that "Andraste's t*ts".

On Cullen's withdrawals, realistically, he's the special snowflake, and he'll be fine. Maybe not, as others have mentioned, but as the Magic 8 Ball would say, "Signs point to yes."

On the swearing, none of that is in game, they're things folks on twitter asked him to say when he asked for suggestions. They're all bonafide swears in Thedas, mostly said by the likes of Anders and Varric, but none have been said by Cullen previously in game.

I always judge right away. Guess I'll have to leave a few down there next time!

I just finished most of Champions of the Just for the first time this afternoon, and I was careful to go into Cullen's cell and not leave, but he never said anything. Josephine and almost everyone else in there did say something. Dunno if it's glitched, or it's just random who speaks.

In my experience, his dialogue easily glitches out. I've had the best luck if you immediately go into his cell (to the left) once you get to the end. If you trigger the sobbing guy at the end of the corridor (to the right) it will glitch out.

*sad face* I just did Champions of the Just today and couldn't get that to trigger either. Good to see it, but ugh.

I found a pretty reliable way to get them is to make sure absolutely no other dialogue is running as you walk in the door. They don't overlap, so if someone else is still talking and you trigger a second dialogue, the trigger will misfire and you won't hear it at all. So if you walk into the other cell first, wait it out until the guy stops talking, then visit Cullen. I spent a few runs wondering why he was the only one not talking until I figured this out.

She didn't actually get to that point though, so I wonder how true that was, or if it was just Chantry propaganda to discourage the Templars from even trying to quit. Because clearly Cullen seems to fare a lot better.

On Cullen's swearing I was a little taken aback by any of the "Andraste's [insert body part]" that Greg did. Don't get me wrong, he's wonderful for doing them! But I personally wouldn't use them since Cullen is a particually religious type and the worst he's said is "Maker's breathe" as far as I remember, which is much more in line with his character.
