Well, what tense are you using? Present or past? I find third person a little odd in present tense, so if you do write in third person...past tense is something that I find easier to understand/flow better.

 
Present tense.
 

I've written both my Hawke and inquisitor stories in first person, I guess because I'm used to playing the game from that perspective, plus I think it's easier for readers to relate to a first person Hawke or inquisitor instead of third person... but in most other cases, I write in third person.

I agree, I am use to essentially becoming the character, not being an outside observer, if that makes sense.

Ah, that may be why. Try to change some sentences into past tense and see if you like it better.

I played the same way you do with ME. I always played MShep and as a female, I could not relate to him as well I as do with female characters. So I always felt like I was watching his story as opposed to it being my story.

I loved him in DA2 and hoped he'd play a bigger role (he did near the end), but after getting to see a more personal side of him (since he stopped running away, unless you flirt with him lol) I realized he's the best choice for a LI and good friend. I met Steve Blum last year and he told me about Greg Ellis and what a great guy he is and actor, and he loved his work in DA as Cullen too! Lol

 

He's not a Disney Prince like some say though. He went through so much pain and confusion and did many wrong things that he's still paying for, but just because his romance doesn't end in deception or being dumped, doesn't mean it's all roses either. You are basically romancing a guy who had pretty bad mental issues and an addiction, and it made him more human to me that way. I really love how his character grew and changed based on his exp and he became a stronger man who could finally initiate a kiss! Lol

This is the first time I hear of that. I know that same people say that the Josie romance is disney-like but I can't comment on that since I haven't played it yet. I don't see him as a Disney prince character at all. Cullen had to suffer so much, so I think that it's just fair that he sees the light at the end of tunnel now.

 

 

Yes he wasn't the most handsome guy in DAO or DA2 and I liked him for his personality and his shyness, which eventually he grew out of mostly and came into his own as a strong Commander. I know Varric made a comment about him being a pretty boy just kept around for his looks (party banter), but that's Varric for you! Lol

Josie and Leliane tease Cullen, too. There is a war table banter about Leliana telling him just to stand there and to look pretty . I think another time they tease him about his hair (not sure, though). And Varric teases everyone. LOL.

I'm glad that you liked his romance so much . I liked it, too. It was indeed a sweet one. But personally, I wished he had suffered a bit more from his lyrium withdrawal. We discussed this before in this thread and I know that the opinions differ. But it somehow bothered me that the subject was never brought up again if you talk him out of taking lyrium. So, yes, there could have been a bit more suffering for me. But even if he had suffered more, I would want a happy ending for him. And I agree, the last scene on the balcony was a good way to end the story (and hey, finally a scene that takes place in my room!).

I haven't taken a poll or anything but judging from different sites, it seems that more people appreciate having a happy ending option for a change over the ones who dislike his romance. Bioware really surprised me with his characterization in Inquisition, I've said it before but he didn't grab me until the second playthrough. I felt like I was getting to know him.  We might also want to withhold judgment on his lyrium withdrawal effects until DLC's are released, you just never know.

 

Re: Admiral Rutherford, I really like the Mass Effect crossover art (my other favorite series)! There's some really good Cassandra ones floating around, I'm sure they're on her thread.

I looked up at her, our eyes meeting.

“You would have an elf—a male elf—serve as your Left Hand? It can’t work, Cassandra.”

“Why not? My Left and Right Hands must be my closest friends. The people I would entrust my life to. As for your heritage and your gender…” She scoffed again. “I have been called to be Divine, and I have accepted. If I say these things do not matter, then they do not matter.”

I nodded but could think of no response to that. I had given her my answer, yet she refused to receive it.

“Perhaps you should speak to Cullen,” she said after awhile.

I looked up, surprised.

“Cullen?” I asked.

“Yes. I have asked him to serve as my Right Hand, and he has accepted. Perhaps he can persuade you where I cannot.”

 

I wonder if he will be able to convince him By the way I hate writing love scenes so there probably won't be any raunch, sorry

Which way is better to write. First or third person? I am so use to writing in first.

 

Apologies for being slightly off Cullen topic. 

 

Personally I tried both and for me it works like this:

 

- First Person: for very subjective POV, not entirely "objective" and "all knowing", can easily be used to focus on narrative. I did one with very emotional narrative, it works much better on First Person than on Third.

 

- Third Person: more objective, can easily be used to focus on situation & description.
