Mel!!! That's exactly what I wrote about for the 5000 page celebration!!! My Quizzy was not very happy about Cullen mentioning his decision so late. Then things took an unexpected turn :D OoooOooo I can't wait to see what ppl think about the fic :)

Well, Rhiannon is a Templar now so things are starting to get interesting! I honestly thought she showed genuine concern when he told her he wasn't taking lyrium anymore. She was ticked that he kept it from her, but she said she didn't agree with the decision because of the risks to his health. That's what I was going for so I think the scene was perfect.  :D

Let me know if you guys want to see the Blackwall "batman" breakup scene. Boy was she ticked at him.

When I first started this game, I did not complete "Perseverance nor smexy time. I completed "Before the Dawn" assuming these scenes would not trigger unless it was completed.

I remember Cullen saying something to the effect, "As if I would sympathize."

Then later after doing both, his sentence changed to something else "As if I would understand."

Don't hold me to these words, I am not sure if that is the exact pharsing, but it DOES change. Which leads me wonder if the dialogue changes on account of your relationship with Cullen being locked or do to "Perseverance" completed.

Also got me thinking too if the dialogue changes on account of him taking or not taking lyrium again.

Hmm. I may to do some testing before this drives me bonkers. :P

You may not be so off on this, I'm also going to throw in the conversation you have about Samson with him prior all this as a suspect, where you can choose "i feel sorry for Samson" bit.

Samson's quest is sort of Cullen quest, it becomes more apparent at the Judgment where you have an option to either fuel Cullen's anger or not.

Do you actually get to judge Samson? That never happened in my game.

You do, but I think it's optional. It never happened automatically after I beat him. No option to sit on the throne.

I remember when judging the Knight Commander Templar, Cullen was in place of Josephine for that one too, like he is with Samson.

You need to do a war table mission first I think.

Aha I did have a present tense story, but it was not the one I thought it was! It was actually my entry for the Asunder fanfiction contest!! I totally forgot about this story! https://www.fanficti...ull-Many-a-Rose

It's sad so don't read if depressed :P

EDIT: I lied, I have two present tense stories, but the other is an anime fanfic.

Cool. Will go have read. xx

To put it in context, this whole thing started with aimo musing on the other side of all those Red Lyrium Cullen AUs:

Ahh I see; that makes sense now. I stopped doing war table missions after awhile  But I'm committed to finishing out my completionist playthrough! YOSH! I actually check the wiki for each war table mission to see who gives the best result. NEVER AGAIN, CLAN LAVELLAN, NEVER AGAIN. (Albeit Cadash this time.) And I don't click on the missions until I've finished my current missions; that way the yellow star lets me know it needs to be done.

I'll be honest, I'm really having trouble completing this playthrough. I'm dying to make another elf lol Especially now that I have mustache-less Dorian. But I really am dedicated to finishing. I think it is the only way I'll explore the Blackwall romance, too.

But, doesn't that mean we would have (more of) Gideon Emery in DAI instead?!

Another thing I forgot to add is, people say Cullen is another Alistair, but I never really felt that way. Yes, Alistair is my Warden's LI, but it happened unexpectedly. From the moment my Amell was walking around the tower, hearing whispers from other apprentices that Cullen was in love with her, I wanted them together. Now that he can be romanced and become a good friend with my IQ (and a companion at one point temporarily), Cullen is still my first and fav! Then it's Alistair and Fenris (though Zevran, Anders and Blackwall sometimes make it hard to choose too).

I have no problem imagining Cullen in Samson's role but (as cool as the art of clean-cut Samson is) I can't imagine any circumstances under which Samson could have turned himself around that way between DA2 and DA:I. Which makes me wonder which, if any, existing characters would be remotely plausible as Commander of the Inquisition if Cullen had fallen to either mage paranoia or red lyrium. Maybe Aveline, but it's hard to imagine her leaving Kirkwall. (EDIT: Probably not any Hawkes, actually, now that I think of it.)

(I also wonder if Cullen was one of the fan favorites Gaider mentioned having been slated to die horribly in Exalted March. I'm so bummed we'll probably never know. Glad it didn't happen, of course, but still hugely curious.)

I held a bit of hope for Samson after I helped him get back his Templar title in DA2.

So...I have a question (a little OT).  Are the actually doing DLC for the game?  Is it official?  I read somewhere long ago that they said they would not be doing that because people complained that they were being forced to pay for content they already bought (or something like that)...but it may have been in regards to other companions (like Shale).

Has there been real confirmation that DLC is happening?

Yeah, I can absolutely see Samson in the role of cleaned up Commander. He was on a pretty good path where I left him in my DA2 playthrough. I find it harder to buy Cullen letting himself be corrupted than Samson redeeming himself.

What they said they're not doing anymore is companion DLCs (like Shale and Sebastian) and full expansion packs like Awakening. They're still doing self-contained story DLCs like Legacy, MotA, etc.

There hasn't been any DLC announcement yet, but it's nothing to worry about, the game has been out for only a couple months now. There will be more content at some point, since sales of this game and sales based on this game have to tide the studio over until at least Mass Effect Not-the-4 and the new IP are released, and those are still a couple of years away.

Cullen was shown to have become very vulnerable after the tower incident in DAO, so I can see his addiction, but Samson in his place and as an LI would have made the IQ have a lot more on her plate. Lol

And off topic for a sec, another DA2 slight disappoint for me in DAI was a certain name:

I wonder if they did have anyone planned for the role of the Commander prior to Cullen's popularity. I think he was probably the natural go-to guy after DA2 and when they didn't do the Exalted March expansion, but I'm curious now. I've read that they did have the big spoilery stuff already planned or at least knew they were going to go there as early as Origins, but I doubt they had the details of it all nailed down. I mean, I can't imagine that in Origins it was, "Yes, we'll have this Templar you hardly talk to become the leader of the Inquisition forces for the third game." Especially given some of the epilogue slides regarding Cullen.

Yeah...I musta missed something there.  Worthy seemed...well, like a worthy chap in DA2.  Where there something I missed? Why did the guy who sold me stuff go all mental?

I believe it's been said on the record that Cullen was not originally planned to be a "carry over" character but for whatever reason (possibly popularity) he showed up in DA2. Now from DA2 to DAI, I don't know if they always planned to bring him over and continue his development (not that I feel he's developed much in DAI but that's another topic and one I got snapped at for last time). Now I have a feeling the "advisors" were a later addition; Josephine for one seems like a very "last minute" character. I bet initially Cassandra and Leliana were going to be the main inquisition characters, oh, and Morrigan of course was always intended to play a big part (not that she did in DAI... she just sort of shows up then gets some stuff wrong about the mirrors lol).

Yeah it seemed so unplanned and his name was just randomly thrown in there.

As for Cullen, I wonder myself if his popularity is what made him a big part of DAI too like previously mentioned. I'm guessing many players chose females mages and saw a softer side to this adorably shy Templar who hadn't gone mad yet from the attacks. I know he was endeared to me after my playthrough as a mage.
