Well... he did do some "moves" that I interpreted as active flirt of his part when we're at skyhold... But that might imply my skewed personal interpretation so... in any case IIRC mechanically Cullen won't do the first move like Anders or Alistair.

 

Aghgh. Okay. I'm not sure what to do now. I'm afraid of writing him ooc. In all three games he is so reserved that I was kind of going by that to guess how he would be in a relationship (or at least the start of one). Sexually aggressive Cullen? Cannot see that nor even him even being as such. Bull sure, Cullen, no.

Cullen seems to be the type in bed to be gentle, passionate and with a bit of kinky added in. Thus he views sex with your Inquisitor as love making, expressing his feelings more then it to be an act of lust.

Wait, what? I'm confused now.  The others said it was the inquisitor who makes her feelings known first, and that Cullen is reluctant at first to pursue the relationship. Is that not true?

Well, it's hard to say without you seeing the romance. Because she's the PC, she's the one who initiates the conversation. "Let's talk about us." But, he's the one who moves them into the physical zone rather assertively, IMO. Twice. In fact, the first time, she almost wusses out... and he closes the deal.  But then, she's the one who initiates all the woo breaks. I kind of see them both taking the initiative in their relationship, at different times. But, Cullen does  state his reluctance, saying that he wasn't sure it was a good idea because she's the Inquisitor.

I would *not* call him sexually aggressive. He is reserved... but knows what he wants. It's all very ... gentlemanly, and yet sexy. TBH, he's the same as always, so just go with what seems right to you.

1. He did flirt, but very subtly. It can be interpreted otherway (some of the flirts I only understand after playing non-romance with him)

2. He did not want to "start" the relation due to several things (you're his boss, it's war right now, and due to Perseverance if you start the romance later) & is very timid since he's not sure that the feeling reciprocated or not.

3. When starting the "special night" scene, he's the one who's going hot first & do the first move (IMO).

Okay. Enough. *slaps self* I am agonizing over this too much LOL Thanks everyone for your input. I hope you will enjoy my "version" of Cullen, and I promise I'm doing my very best to portray him as in character as possible. For me that's very important. I'm not the type to write the character "a certain way" just to please myself... because generally I like the characters or the pairing for who they are, not who I want them to be. So I just need to trust myself.

Agree, altho instead of 'timid,' I would say uncertain. He has doubts and needs reassurance... but I wouldn't say he's timid. Meow.

I think in the past I've written him as a bit clueless and reluctant because, how could this really work? But I've never seen him as timid. He's a very decisive person, at least in non-romantic matters. (Having read some of your fics I do think we write him similarly, which fills me with confidence )

Yeah, totally I would go with that. He has these moments where he's all commandy commander... and then downshifts to stammering uncertainty. It's adorable.  I don't find him different at all.... even tho I've been agonizing over this exact same thing myself with my new story. So I feel your pain!

Why don't you just tell your story like you want? Don't worry about being OOC IMO, one of the best fanfic I've ever read has everyone (esp. Cass) OOC & it's really good, because the author wasn't afraid to be a bit OOC to tell his/her story.

 

Anyway, if you're writing it post-game, just imagine that Cullen's changed a bit during his time in the Inquisition. So no worry! Great stories will always be great stories whether you change a bit the default characters or not.

For Varric I was trying to think of a word that meant "gently sarcastic" but couldn't find anything.

Not very in-topic but if he's a coffe, I bet that Cullen will be either Espresso (that intensity...) or Cappucino (sweet & tall & creamy). Solas (romance) is Ristretto, very short & very very intense & have a slight bitter taste at the tounge afterward.
