I hardly ever get these, period. Do you guys just leave the screen on the war table for awhile?

I think you're on PC effected by the banter bug? I know I still am. I really only got their banter when I did all the tricks and those annoying drums play all over skyhold and you run over to the war room to do stuff. I think it was linked?? I never got the banter about drafty skyhold...

I wasn't getting war table banter until I started a new game after patch 2. The war table banter hasn't changed since then, but my party banter has dropped significantly after patch 3.

It's kind of hard to tell so far with banter post patch since I'm early in this current game and just am running around Hinterlands with the OG party (haven't recruited others yet), they've said stuff a couple of times but at this stage of the game there is so much content getting triggered ("oh, bandits ahead!" etc).

War table banter - I got the bunny comment on the first playthrough (so many moons ago) and not since, and I spend a lot of time in there.

Cullen question - when does the dialogue option open up to ask him about the Mage Warden?

This looks fun, but I set out to fit a pattern.

Cullen - Constantly

Leliana - Contrarily

Josephine - Delicately

Dorian - Dashingly

Solas - Analytically

Vivienne - Sophisticatedly

Varric - sagaciously

Cole - empathetically

Sera - Wildly

Cassandra - duteously

The Iron Bull - audaciously

Blackwall- Tormentedly

After "Perseverance" is resolved. I like how his answer changes depending on romanced/non-romanced

Huh, I wonder why that far into the game? I was able to ask Leliana about it right away in Haven  - in this world state Leli was the warden's LI.

Well, almost immediately after you learn that he was at the Tower during the Blight, he tells you that he doesn't want to talk about his time there. Once he finally opens up about it during his personal quest you have the green light to ask questions like that.

yeah you judge samson  the wartable mission is called

Spoiler
it's available after you finish arbor wilds and I think I might be wrong but I think that you have to do
Spoiler

I have tested this yesterday. I am playing a speedrun pt and I skipped Before the Dawn as I am not romancing Cullen this time. And I am still able to judge Samson after that war table quest. I don't know if this would trigger Cullen's knife-throwing scene tho. Will check later.

The 'I want to know more about you' option unlocks after Perseverance too, right?

OT, but I just did something completely evil and fits for an evil!inquisitor. I reconciled Briala and Celene at the Winter palace then killed Celene off! lol  The dialog with Briala doesn't change tho, it seems.

There's an additional set of personal questions to ask him, yes. Thanks to this thread I learned to save the one which roughly goes "What are you planning to do when this over?" until after the romance locks in. Sometimes I love those writers at BioWare to death (and sometimes I just want to kill them!).

I'm saving the convo option "you've been away a long time" or something to that effect, I think that he says something different after the Haven attack and I haven't heard it myself.  Something about Haven feeling like home.  I'll also be sure to save the line you mentioned until the romance!  It's so tricky with this game, you never know if you wait too long and a convo option disappears unless you research it.

Does anyone know of a video of starting the Cullen romance AFTER "Perseverance?"

Curious to see it.

I love the subtle dialog changes! I messed around in the Keep with this pt and made Leliana not a companion in DAO. It is such a new experience during the Wicked Eyes quest as she knows nothing personal about Morrigan. She only met her a few times at court.

Edit to quote.

I was pleasantly surprised when I triggered the 'felt like home' dialog. Lucky I was testing the changes in dialog (though I was aiming to test the vow flirt only).

So, I saw that the Gossiping Orlesian Noble lines came up again, and I'm wondering: based on some posts shortly after the game came out, I thought the explanation that made the most sense was that they were talking about some other famous couple, not involving the Inquisitor at all. Someone here said they got the same lines on their Dorian-romancing playthrough, and the only one that has a phrase that sounds like it could have been about Cullen ("the allure of command") immediately follows it with a phrase that makes very little sense for Cullen / Trevelyan and absolutely zero sense for Cullen / Lavellan ("noble names").

Have we confirmed which, if any, of their comments actually have anything to do with the Cullen romance?

On my second playthrough I have a Lavellan romancing Solas who hasn't flirted with Cullen even once: I haven't been making an effort to swing by them, but I know for sure I got the "committed to independence" and the "climax" ones (the latter just about 5 minutes ago), and I'm 95% sure I got "intrigue begets begetting" and "has there been an exchange".

This is interesting - I never noticed their gossip until I romanced Cullen for the first time, so I just assumed and saw others' comments.

Darnit! I had to do a Warden/Leliana romance this time around since I hadn't done it yet, but I didn't even think about not recruiting her at all to get some different flavor.  Oh well.

I think - and this is just based on my own experiences - you either get the "noble names" conversation (romancing Cullen, Dorian, Josephine, possibly Cassandra?) or "prefer a high-born scandal" (with everyone else). The rest of the dialogue chain is exactly the same, no matter who you're romancing. And continues even after Solas has bailed on you, incidentally. <_<   If you're not in a romance you're "committed to independence," if you're not in a romance but flirting with people left and right you get something about having a way with words. They'll also comment on a break-up.

And I got those conversations even on a playthrough where I was "romancing" Scout Harding, which made me very happy for some reason.

I just realized tonight that I never got the book conversation with Cassandra. It's always been my first convo with her once I get to Skyhold. What did I do to miss triggering it?

And to stay on topic, here's a Cullen. ;)

Here ya go!

So the change is when he says "You haven't always seen me in the best light" instead of "I didn't think it was possible?"?  Or is there something else I missed?

That scene also reminded me, I'm going to let Celene die for the first time. I always felt guilty about it or was worried about low approval from some people but now IDGAF.

I think it's gated behind approval - did you make a choice she particularly disagreed with this time around?

The only big change I made was conscripting the Templars. I honestly haven't paid attention to who agrees or disagrees with that, so I don't know.

If it is approval-gated, can I get it at some future point?

*Snip*

Thank you Mel, for posting this. (gives you cookies)

Hmmm. I am not impressed.

I was expecting, I dunno more, but it just seems so...well...flat.

Hear me out before you throw the veggies.

For starters, I feel as though the Mage dialogue option comes off as, getting a more "personal" reaction from Cullen. If you understand my meaning.

Secondly waiting so long to do this just for Cullen to say, "Well you have not seen me at best" was just meh. Its like "Uh Cullen, I would not have asked to speak to you alone on the barracks if your outburst was an issue."

In my game play smooching Cullen, then doing "Perseverance" and telling him not to drink the blue kool-aid. The cut scene you get feels/felt as though Cullen's surprised look when you tell him you like him and still want to be with him came off as more- intimate. Cullen words and face says it all.

Thus I have no intentions of waiting until after "Perseverance" to do smoochy time.

Ahh well.

Still nice to see what the difference even if I am unimpressed.

That would be it. In spite of what she says, she doesn't approve of that option. And yes, just kill a few of those renegades she asks you to hunt down and you'll be fine (her relationship with my PCs always starts out rocky but they're bestest buddies by the end  ;) ).
