Sorry R2 I was in the more how some complaints about him shows what we love about Cullen, I didn't even think about in that terminology. I won't do it again.

No worries! We were all taken aback! It's just something for us all to be cognizant of, since it wasn't so long ago that the only time people talked about Cullen was to make fun of his fans.
The sea change is nice...
but like all pendulums, it undoubtedly will swing back to bite us in the @ss.
So I was reading this article on a gamer/geek forum about female romance options and many of them were talking about how females have no decent romance options. That Bull's is to comical, Sera only works if you want F/F and then Blackwall is kind of ok if your ok with the whole I lied to you and now you can have me back and he is the only decent human romance for a female. So its like ok, what about Cullen? They said Cullen is the worse female romance option ever. That he is to whinny about the lyrium thing, he is an idiot with flirting, is all Maker this Maker that (especially they dished the Andraste statue prayer at the end) and so on. I was thinking, wow at this point I am just not going to get on there anymore...I mean anti-Cullen? Who shouldn't boycott those bas***ds!
Sounds like to me those people who wrote that article have not been following Cullen since he was first introduced in DAO.
Before this game even came out I was already in preparation mode of who to romance. None of the other companions who you could romance interested me. Then when I read you could romance, Cullen, the military adviser, I sighed and chose to romance him- still reluctant of course.
I was never a fan of Cullen. In DAO Cullen came off as aloof. In DA2 he came off as an a!shole. But, in DAI I was like, "Holy Crap! This man has come along way and is amazing!" Thus I became a fan of Cullen and cannot romance anyone else.
I have not played, what is it? Mass Effect? Where you can romance in there. I will say however Cullen is by far thee best romance in all the DA games I have played. As I have said before the romance is not perfect (in terms of writing) but its still good-damn good. The "Prayer" scene is still my favorite part through the whole romance. It really shows not only how much Cullen loves your Inquisitor but how much he is scared he could lose you in the final battle to come. '
Considering this: Most gamers know of DA and know Cullen is a popular character and has become even more so since DAI. Thus writers of these articles on these known sites will say bad things about such a popular character, Why? To get more readers, to get arise out of people.
As a fellow Cullen fan: whomever wrote this article is an idiot.
At this point if someone decries a character as "whiny" I'm taking that as a sign I'm probably going to love said character. XD
Well, there are some characters I would call "whiny," but I can still see the appeal to others. I wasn't the biggest fan of Kaidan, but it had nothing to do with his headaches. I couldn't stand that he turned is back on Shepard, broke her heart, and then in the 3rd one continued to harp on her till finally she gets a chance to scream STFU at him. He, of all people, should know who she is and what she's about. Garrus had no problems seeing it and stuck by her. Which is why he's my Garrus-Boo 4ev!
I've heard folks say that Kaidan's romance with M!Shep in the 3rd game feels much better (since there's no history of heart-break), which I can see and agree with. But for F!Shep who started the romance back in ME1? NOPE...
And just because I need something to rope Cullen back in, I'll say that to me, I enjoyed his romance the most - simply for what so many people complain about. It's simple - just two people meeting and falling in love. No dark rituals or anything crazy in the story. His felt the most "real."
It seems like with Cullen it is either totally love him or hate him. I dunno where I was looking but on a tumblr siteand someone had a hate cullen theme going. One of things was they couldn't understand why Cullen was an advisor. It went on how he had no experience with leading an army and such. They thought he was the dumbest character ever to be chosen as one of your advisors. I saw a picture once with something on it like that too, I'll have to see if I can find it.
You sometimes it makes me wonder if people like that confuse compassionate with whiny. Alistair is my all time favorite romance character out of all BioWare games. I know people have said he is so whiny and gets all weepy over Duncan and all, but I always saw him as someone with a compassionate and kind heart who would grieve for anyone he loved, which is one of the reasons he appealed to me as a Warden LI, you knew if you did die Alistair would mourn you forever. Which if you do die and have him as a Warden in DA2 he says his gift belonged to the love of his life. So if thats whiny, than damn give me a whiny warden any day
I always thought it was kinda weird that he would part with something so special..."Here Hawke, I don't know you from the next guy, but here...have this...it belonged to the love of my life that died."
So, I saw that the Gossiping Orlesian Noble lines came up again, and I'm wondering: based on some posts shortly after the game came out, I thought the explanation that made the most sense was that they were talking about some other famous couple, not involving the Inquisitor at all. Someone here said they got the same lines on their Dorian-romancing playthrough, and the only one that has a phrase that sounds like it could have been about Cullen ("the allure of command") immediately follows it with a phrase that makes very little sense for Cullen / Trevelyan and absolutely zero sense for Cullen / Lavellan ("noble names").
Have we confirmed which, if any, of their comments actually have anything to do with the Cullen romance?
On my second playthrough I have a Lavellan romancing Solas who hasn't flirted with Cullen even once: I haven't been making an effort to swing by them, but I know for sure I got the "committed to independence" and the "climax" ones (the latter just about 5 minutes ago), and I'm 95% sure I got "intrigue begets begetting" and "has there been an exchange".
On the wiki it states the two nobles gossiping are about your romance with Cullen. Also it seems a bit strange that they appear at certain milestones of the romance to talk about whatever it is happened.
Of course it is entirely possible it has something to do with another couple. I heard that the line changes depending on who you romance. Could it have been a bug on your end? Who knows.
Damn it. Now I want answers. LOL!
I think EVERY male romance has been called "whiny" at this point. Not because they are but because "whiny" seems to be a catch-all phrase to describe a dislike of them. Garrus was whiny about Sidonis, Alistair was whiny about Duncan, Kaidan was whiny about his headaches etc. They mentioned them sure (beacuse it would be really odd if they didn't, especially if they had a loyalty mission about it *facepalm*) and that was the same thing as whining apparently.
I dare someone to call my Alibear or Kaidan whiny to my face.

Yeah i saw this on YouTube. My reaction was, "Um, What!!" But lets not forget that DA2 was a cluster F mess.

The nobles only approve of certain romances. I know they don't like Solas.

Same could be said for opinions about DA2
Or opinions in general.
DA2 wasn't that bad. Characters were still extremely superb, in my opinion.
It's still my favorite of the three! ![]()
DAO fav companions: Alistair, Morrigan, Zevran
DA2 faves: Fenris, Isabela, Carver, Aveline
DAI faves: Cole, Bull, Cassandra
So, in that regard, I had the greatest number of favorite companions in DA2

I still got the same "an exchange has been made" banter about Solas. ![]()

DA2 was great for me, minus the recycling of environments. Had some great companions, good dialogue, and decent narrative overall.

Agree. I loved it as well, flaws and all. It was what really sucked me into the fandom for the first time.

I agree. I like all three games, for different reasons!

yeah, it definitely had some problems, but when it was good, it was really good.
Plus, Flemeth alone just sells me on an entire game. I spent the majority of my time in DA2 wondering what the hell she was up to, cause her words have always been so prophetic. Favorite character of the entire franchise.

However, I can't really rank the games. If pressed I'd say DA2 > DAI > DAO, but that paints an incomplete picture and makes it seem like I hated DAO, which is not true at all.
(Sighs) I really need to remind myself to explain my statements-one of these days I will remember.
I enjoyed a good deal about DA2, however in terms of environment, some confusing dialogue, repeat areas-that was the cluster F mess.
Damn, now I want to skip DAO and go straight to DA2. Oh choices.

Spoiler
LOL It's funny, the recycled environments took me FOREVER to actually notice. I just have really bad spatial acuity. So coming in from a different entrance?? Totally different cave.
Apparently they designed DA2 just for folks like me!
And on the Flemeth...

Yeah, it's hard for me to rank themselves as well, but I'd probably have DAI>DA2>DAO
DAO was the real piece that sold the vast and rich history of the World of Thedas, so it was my foundation for the franchise. However, I didn't paritcularly enjoy the game itself so much as the world that was built and detailed.
DAI is my favorite, because I personally was able to roleplay my first mage, Gale, extremely well, which I have never been able to do with Hawke or my Amell. Also, they about beat us over the head with heavy, heavy lore secrets, which I am absolutely thrilled about.
They are all great games, at the end of the day.
Head's up guys - I should be able to post vids of Templar Perseverance tonight! I just gto to the Fade last night so I will get Perseverance as soon as I get back to Skyhold!

Yeah, I know, but even still, watching my favorite character get whacked, horcruxes or no...I cannot even begin to describe the rage. And the revelation of who Solas truly is, and what he inadvertently started, irritated me even more.
