(Sighs) I really need to remind myself to explain my statements-one of these days I will remember.

I enjoyed a good deal about DA2, however in terms of environment, some confusing dialogue, repeat areas-that was the cluster F mess.

Damn, now I want to skip DAO and go straight to DA2. Oh choices.

No, worries. You're fine. We're just having a good ol' discussion about the merits and flaws of previous installments.

Yeah, I know, but even still, watching my favorite character get whacked, horcruxes or no...I cannot even begin to describe the rage. And the revelation of who Solas truly is, and what he inadvertently started, irritated me even more.

Wow, so I'm not the only one! I always kept Solas at a distance because I never trusted him, even before I found out the surprise ending.

I don't think I'll ever be able to romance him with a character - though I think I will see if I can replicate kalalala's polyamory bug!

Sigh, I think it'll be a while before I ever actually try to romance him. For one, the elves are wayyyyyyy too thin for me, though I might put up with it so that I can say that I banged a god.

DAO: Alistiar, Zevran

DA2: Fenris, Isabela, Aveline, Hawke, Cullen >.>

DAI: Solas, Cole, Cullen, Vivienne, Cass

However, I can't really rank the games. If pressed I'd say DA2 > DAI > DAO, but that paints an incomplete picture and makes it seem like I hated DAO, which is not true at all.

DA:O: Alistair, Sten Morrigan (Sten and Morrigan banter, especially about sex is a hoot)

DA:2 Anders, Aveline, Fenis

DA:I Bull ,Cassandra (their banter is funny too) and Dorian. I do cycle more through other characters in this game, except my only Mage once I get him is Dorian. He is my favorite companion from all games right behind Alistair.

On Alistair and the amulet in DA:2 he does say he thinks she would of liked it going to Hawke. I see it as to him the Warden is so a part of his heart he can almost feel how she would of done things and since the wardens couldn't stay, she would of given them something to help. He treasures the piece obviously, but to do what he feels she would of done is more important to him then keeping it with him.

No worries! We were all taken aback! It's just something for us all to be cognizant of, since it wasn't so long ago that the only time people talked about Cullen was to make fun of his fans.

The sea change is nice...  B) but like all pendulums, it undoubtedly will swing back to bite us in the @ss.

No kidding!

Oh, I have trouble picking favorite companions. I've found most of them fascinating. There have been a few who didn't do much for me, but that's just my personal reaction to them, and even then, I've found them interesting in one way or another. Sadly, as someone who loves dwarfs otherwise, I could never personally warm to Oghren. He always felt like he'd been written for a certain age of guy, I guess.

As far as romances, there's enough variety that there's something for everyone, I think, although that may require making some compromises, sadly. And with the information that the Blackwall dialogue after the reveal is potentially glitched makes me feel that what bothered me about the last part of the romance wasn't actually supposed to be that way. Though I admit, one of my dwarves is going the 9th route and romancing Harding (as far as it goes in DAI, which is a promise of having a drink, I believe.) :P

Well, there are some characters I would call "whiny," but I can still see the appeal to others. I wasn't the biggest fan of Kaidan, but it had nothing to do with his headaches. I couldn't stand that he turned is back on Shepard, broke her heart, and then in the 3rd one continued to harp on her till finally she gets a chance to scream STFU at him. He, of all people, should know who she is and what she's about. Garrus had no problems seeing it and stuck by her. Which is why he's my Garrus-Boo 4ev!

I've heard folks say that Kaidan's romance with M!Shep in the 3rd game feels much better (since there's no history of heart-break), which I can see and agree with. But for F!Shep who started the romance back in ME1? NOPE...

And just because I need something to rope Cullen back in, I'll say that to me, I enjoyed his romance the most - simply for what so many people complain about. It's simple - just two people meeting and falling in love. No dark rituals or anything crazy in the story. His felt the most "real."

Now see I utterly loved Kaidan from the beginning, and I don't remember it being that bad at all. Sure, it's quite an epic snub there in ME2, but considering she's been dead and then turns up not only alive but working for the enemy, who may or may not have changed her... It's quite an epic betrayal, in a way. I thought it was very like him to take stuff like that very seriously, and to take a while before he's completely assured himself she's still the same person. So, yeah, YMMV. :) Also, that voice.... <3

I've actually been kind of wondering lately, what if Cullen and the Quizzy and the gang somehow ended up in the ME world.... How would everyone get along?

I can not express how much I love that horcruxes is pretty much a generally accepted term now. :D

Female elves are the absolute thinnest. I thought it was quite amusing to have one running around with a giant 2H sword that is almost bigger than she is. XD Or a giant maul that makes her look like she should be tipping on her back like a turtle. XD

Pretty sure he and Garrus would be calibrating buddies!

Remember the Citadel party where Garrus and Zaeed are booby-trapping Shep's apartment (since Garrus is THE cutest b/f ever!)? I could totally picture Cullen being part of that - while Shep and Quizzy watched from the bar.

Does anyone have a link handy to the missed Blackwall convo? I tried searching through the Blackwall thread but only found explanations from the writer as to why it can go missing.

Going back to Cullen haters vs lovers, and complaints about romance options - again, this is why I keep saying that the devs should just make the story and characters however they want it, because they will NEVER be able to please everyone.  I like how in each game characters can be problematic, just like real life.  Otherwise just play a dating sim.

As far as Mass Effect romances - I was a Thane girl all the way. Didn't like the lack of him in 3 but the Citadel DLC almost made up for it.

I really love the three DA games, now that I reflect back. They are special in their own way.

DA:O's my first time playing a game with a personalized character (I only played Final Fantasy & Kingdom Hearts & Atelier Iris series before... I must admit). The ending was epic, first time I get a choice in Romance (not forced to a particular character like in FF) & the hero can die. That's Epic

DA2: I like it much less at first play on the recycling environments, but like Elu said, the characters are magnificent.

DA:I well, Cullen. TBH, I don't like forced being the Inquisitor (too religious as institution for me...) & still find Warden & Hawke more awesome.

Anyway, can someone please recommend some songs & musics for my Cullen playlist? Since now I spend more time drawing Cullen & writing fanfic about Cullen, I need one good playlist that makes me think of him (calm songs are the best if possible  , I can't concentrate on rock or heavy metal)

I wrote my first Inquisitor to be a religious, pro-Chantry mage, so being Inquisitor was right up his alley.

Oh god yes. And him taking it so utterly seriously. XD I also imagine he might mistake Garrus for some kind of Darkspawn or demon at first, then upon realizing his mistake be utterly courteous in his apology and immediately treat him like a normal person (they are used to "aliens" in Thedas, after all). And I think Wrex would love being mistaken for a demon. XD

I could not bring myself to romance anyone but Cullen.

Solas: Uh just no and hell no. Watching my husband do this romance, it was just depressing. I had to reload some Cullen Romance scene saves, just to "wash" out the depression. Not to mention I have little interest in playing an elf.

Blackwall: If my father was in his 40s and had less meat on his bones, Blackwall would look too close to him. Not to mention that whole "Batman appearance" and screwing in an open barn is just plain creepy.

As for the rest, well, Cassandra and Dorian are out because I have no intent playing a male character-ever. Sera is just too young and crazy, like a teenager. Josie is as dull as a butter knife. Iron Bull, uh no and no. He is the male version of Isabella. I don't need my character running to the healer every-time they have sex.

If I missed anyone, well they are not important enough to even bother with.

I'm addicted to the Cullen romance and have no interest in my character doing any other romance. Hell, she does not even flirt with anyone other then Cully-Wully.

Cullen is my #1, but I can see the appeal of all of the romances. In fact, I intend to make a LI appreciation vid that features them all, so I need to play through them all at least once (except Solas since I can get a makeout scene with him and then run to Cullen...heehee). That vid is going to take a looooong time to make though since that's a lot of playthroughs! I can just speed through most of them though...as much as a playthrough can be sped through.

I don't mind the Blackwall romance at all, I just wish there was more to it. I got completely spoiled with Cullen's since there seems to be so much more (being that his is so heavily plot-integrated).

What I have planned (other than Cullen's since I have several of those):

Blackwall - Qunari Dual-Dagger Tempest (so cute of a couple!)

Iron Bull - F!Qunari Mage

Dorian - Human Mage KE

Cass - not sure on this one

Sera - Dwarf Dual-Dagger Artificer

Solas - hopefully will be able to get footage with one of my Cullen girls and just reload...

Josie - not sure on this one

I really loved the 3 games, the only thing that bother me in DA2 had nothing to do with the reused environments (i didn`t even notice them in my 1st playthrough  :P) but the ending. I felt it ended in a cliffhanger, it didn`t give me closure to Hawke`s story. Also Orsino`s fight didn`t make any sense for my pro-mage Hawke  <_<.

Yeah I appreciate Solas' character and I can see why people like the romance, but it just turns me off. Even when I was an elf I was just like - ehrm, no.

Loved DAO to pieces, still do, and liked all of the characters. It still makes me literally LOL.  Hated some of the missions (Deep Roads anyone? Fade?). DA2 was meh for me, some characters I liked, some  not at all.  Some parts were well written and some were just "what??". Really ugly game too graphically but I know they didn't have much time on it. DAI I'm currently smitten with, graphically and character wise, it has other issues but that's for other threads, and contains my favorite all-time game romance - CULLEN!

I think someone posted a link a few pages back (or possibly it was on the dwarf thread.) Sadly, I don't have time to track it back down, but it definitely gave the last part of the relationship a more complete feel to me to have at least some dialogue after the reveal.

On the wiki it states the two nobles gossiping are about your romance with Cullen. Also it seems a bit strange that they appear at certain milestones of the romance to talk about whatever it is happened.

Of course it is entirely possible it has something to do with another couple. I heard that the line changes depending on who you romance. Could it have been a bug on your end? Who knows.

Damn it. Now I want answers. LOL!

The wiki's just written by fans, though. I wouldn't be surprised if that "Mrs. Rutherford" thing had shown up there at some point. (Although now I've read enough people claiming to have heard that one themselves that I almost want to get it over with and tweet Mary Kirby about it. Almost.) I think at this point the most logical explanation is that it's like Cabot's nasty little comment--it's romance-related, but either entirely or almost entirely unrelated to whom you're romancing.

EDIT:

And as for the discussion of other romances: I think if Cullen hadn't been in DA:I, I'd have gone in hugely amped to romance IB on my canon playthrough but would have ended up charmed away from him by Blackwall and would have had to save IB for a second playthrough. If Cullen had been in it but non-romanceable those would've been bumped to second and third respectively while my canon Inquisitor just pined over the commander. (EDIT: Or, more likely, my canon/self-insert Inquisitor would have been pushed to second or third PT so I could get at least one romance while everything was still a surprise.) I'm really lucky to have liked all three male options for human females in this one (after having been disappointed by Sebastian's thirty seconds total of uncomfortable flirts and not having been particularly attracted to Anders or Fenris).

Solas's voice is lovely and I really liked his "muscles" flirt with my 2HW Lavellan but on the whole it's not doing much for me for some reason. I'd put it about on par with how I ended up feeling about Fenris.

Cullen was my first romance and Solas my 2nd (so I knew the heartache). I had, in fact, flirted with Solas before but I was already hell-bent on romancing Curly-Wurly before I had even played a single second. Been dying to get him as a romanceable character since the Mage Origin.  I love them both for different reasons, and they both mean different things for the Quizzi. And funny enough the only one my 2nd Quizzi could fall in love with (after Solas) is Cullen. There is just something so tender and protective about him and at the same time, vulnerable. I think he'd understand the feelings of a broken heart. (Yeaaah, in my universe, Cullen loved Mage Warden and never quite forgot her even though he's completely over her when the Inquisition starts.)

Can't really get myself to do Sera or Blackwall. I like Sera as a friend but Blackwall is just an impostor to me. He's not evil but he's very far from my heart.

DAO: Alistair, Shale, Wynne, Leliana, and Zevran

DA2: Isabela, Anders, Aveline*only with Isabela and Merrill*, and Fenris.

DAI: Solas, Cassandra, Cullen, Sera, Dorian, Cole, and Vivienne*btw she knows Irving from DAO*.

As for the games...well...if DAO had DAI's graphics and combat then I think I would say DAO, but honestly...I have no clue.
