Monica21 posted "what We've Become" for us here and it's really so good. For being originally based on a Cullen that we hardly knew from DAO, the writer did a great job imagining him. I would've fallen in love with him so harrrrrd if I'd read this 4 years ago! Halfway through but thank you Monica21, for sharing a cullen I can enjoy on my lunch breaks! That'll almost be 24/7 cullenness, except when I sleep (damnit) and work... (double damnit)...

I'm glad you and Thane4Ever are enjoying it. :) I loved it, still do, and it's one of my favorite fics of all time. It's the first fic that turned me into a Cullen fan, especially after the character arc he had in DA2. I'd never read or even sought out a Cullen fic until after DA2 and then stumbled across that one. The writing drew me in at first, because I don't have an Amell to reference. I was also going through a really rough time and there are are few of Leliana's lines early on that got to me. At one point she says, "We give up on days and live hour by hour, and if that does not work we live moment by moment, and if that does not work we live in the space from one breath to another. And with every breath you say 'I have not fallen yet, and yet, and yet.' And so we carry on when our hearts are broken and our spirits crushed and we are certain we can bear no more." (Be sure to leave a nice note for Crisium because she's wonderful. ;))

Ok guys, here they are...the rest of Perseverance for the templar couple:

It was tough, but I think it fits their relationship. I did get some wonderful screenies last night for *hugs* after you guys watch these...

Thank you for posting these! These are great perspectives on his character.

:sob: R2 stands in the corner, ugly crying. OMG! I'd never seen that scene where he actually drinks  the lyrium again. Aw, pobrecito.

I went with 6' or 6'1 and elves are petite so I'd go between 5'1 or 5'3 for them. Yeaaaah it doesn't look like he's a total foot taller thamn her in game but it works in my head :) whatever works in yours! :D

That's always what I imagine for him, too. The elfquisitor... all I know is she's shorter than Solas, but I don't know how tall he's supposed to be. Presumably not as tall as Cullen...? I guess?

*snip*

Thank you for posting these! These are great perspectives on his character.

Thanks! What I'm going for this playthrough is the "tragic" couple, where duty/sacrifice comes first, and all they have is each other to cling to when things get dark. I know it's not for everybody, but I honestly am enjoying it. A lot. Sure, I don't like seeing him squirm either, but I do love a good sad/angsty/tragic story just as much as the next girl. I'm even contemplating this as my canon playthrough. We'll see.

ANYWAYS, have a Cullen!

Thank you! That makes for a very interesting variation on the story, and makes the most sense of any of the romanced-take-lyrium versions I've seen.

As for Cullen's height relative to the Inquisitors, I feel they aren't consistent in their rendering (I tend to notice height differences a lot.) Some scenes, he appears to be the same height, in others, he's a little taller, maybe two or three inches. Occasionally, he seems to be more than that. My feeling is that he's probably supposed to be two to three inches taller. Solas may be taller than Cullen, I'm not sure I've seen them standing side by side, but Solas's build is clearly atypical for elves in DAI. I suspect a lot of the weird proportions and variable heights have to do with making some cut scenes simpler, sigh.

New game engine says otherwise, but I still hold that elves are shorter than humans. Now when it comes to fanfic, I say there's more opportunity for variance because even human inquisitors wouldn't realistically all be the same height :)

Yeah. I also wonder if it's just a different kind of clipping in that he's standing on a carpet or something that raises him too high or not high enough and he's clipped into the carpet or whatever. That's what I always wondered during the ball, when he often seems very ... short, suddenly.

OMG, the Halamshiral scenes bug me so much with the inconsistent heights - Cullen is so tiny next to the IQ, especially if you're human. And yes his height does change quite a bit in relation to you. I also noticed in the war room he doesn't seem much taller if at all than Josie or Leliana. But then he's looming over you during his first smile scene, but it also seems like the IQ is on a bit of a down slope.

Quick question to you lovely people who have an AO3 account. Is there a kudos etiquette? Do you message the people that have given them to thank them? That's what I'd normally do on DevArt. FF.net is a bit different.

I thought you guys might enjoy this topic - I messaged Greendelle on Deviantart about this photo - I was initially surprised that Cullen looks less beefy than Alistair, and she confirmed that he's a bit smaller in her rendering.  I guess that makes sense but for some reason Cullen seems either the same size or maybe even larger than Alistair? Although maybe Alistair is broader? Thoughts?

My thoughts? "...UUUUURGHHLLLLLBLLLLUUUUUURHHHHHH....*drool*"

On a less 'I've just been artistically lobotomised' note, maybe it's that Cullen is in a more managerial role these days whereas a Warden Alistair is still in regular combat situations, or that Cullen was always somewhat slighter than Alistair?  It can be difficult to get a good sense of his physique under all those layers, I think; certainly his neck looks very long in the 'nekkid Cullen' scenes but I suspect if it didn't he would be swallowed by the fur collar the rest of the time.

And now, back to shameless ogling.  *BLUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRGGGGHHHLLLL*

(Why do I sound like a murloc when I'm ogling?  That can't be right.)

I think it's a matter of personal taste and artist interpretation. He seems way more "buff" in some of her other stuff.

Now that I think of it though, I think for some reason I might have imagined Alistair being a little bigger too...maybe it's the difference in face shape? Like maybe the difference between Vilkas and Farkas in Skyrim...

Yes, his neck is quite long - it looks kind of comical in some scenes tbh.  I'd still lick it.

I actually prefer lankier types so if Greendelle wants to make him less beefy in some of her art then that's fine by me. Strong and lanky with that face and voice? GTFO

I've never been thanked for kudos on AO3, nor have I ever thanked anyone. I don't think that's really done. TBH... I realize now, I don't even know if there is a way to private message someone on AO3 as I've never done it. I only communicate with people through the comments.

In contrast, yeah, on dev art, I always go say thank you for a fave or a watch, as others do to me.

On ff.n, I always respond to every review, but never a fave -- except once. I sent a PM thanking the person who gave me my 100th fave on Knight's Bloom... and they never responded, which then made me feel like a dumb ass for having done so.  I sorta view ff.n faves like AO3 kudos. A quick, practically anonymous thumbs up, that doesn't require or even necessarily invite response.

Same, for the most part. I don't respond to kudos. However, I think I'm unusual in that I do respond to every AO3 comment.

On FFN, I never responded to anything other than PMs, mostly because some of my stories (original fic and fics from a very popular anime series) got several reviews a day, and there's just no way I'd have the time to respond to all of those. Plus at the time there was no way to respond to comments on FFN.

On LJ I again responded to every review; this became time consuming, again, for my really popular fics (which, again, I attribute to the popularity of the anime and the pairing, not my writing skills lol), especially when people would leave multi-paragraph responses, I felt like I had to respond in kind.

I agree that a kudos is basically a thumbs up or a "like" :) I quite like it. It lets you know that someone popped by and read your story. That's enough for me. I'm honored someone took the time to just hit that button. Writers like to know people are ACTUALLY reading their stuff, even if they don't have time to comment. And I definitely don't expect everyone who reads should leave a comment. (Personally, I only comment when a story truly moves me.)

Is that Seth Cohen <3 Cutie.

I like "natural" Cullen. But then again for me I'm more into him as a character than his looks (nothing wrong with being into looks... *wiggles eyebrows at Blackwall* ... or that someone can't be into both). But the default human male form BioWare uses I think suits him just fine. Not really bulky but definitely not slender.

Oh yes, his model in-game is nice - I just wish it was higher-rez and had some form of body hair. He's not a swimmer...  :P

I'm such a back/shoulder girl...and what folks have posted up from flycamming the Wicked Grace scene...just...unf!

*edit*

Crudballs - I already shared my newest Cullen shots! Um...oooh....have a trimmed Adamant opening sequence for ToP! More background into the relationship between Cullen and Rhiannon!

AND! I've now made most of my videos public! I will eventually make them all public. My Templar romance is also now a growing playlist!

WHAT?! That's it; I'm canceling the romance

I was surprised how cute and sexy my shirtless elf was in Iron Bull's love scene lol He just looks so frigging dumb in his pajama outfit that it was such a pleasant surprise.

I hear in Blackwall's romance you have to see your inquisitor full frontal >.> Seems unfair and weird lol

Any nekkidness in the Cullen romance? (That's something I don't mind being spoiled on )

With Blackwall, you see your IQ laying on a pile of hay...you see boobies and that's it.

With Cullen, you see him nekkid in bed, but with conveniently placed IQ to cover up...stuff...

But with flycam you get some sweet views:
