I was watching Real Time with Bill Maher last night, and he had a great guest, Johann Hari, who spoke about addiction. I thought the research that he talked about on addiction (specifically what triggers relapses, and what type of individuals are most likely to become addicted) would be relevant to lyrium and Cullen. The basic idea is that stress is the major factor that determines whether someone will become addicted to a drug or not, and whether they will suffer relapses. By stress, I mean a traumatic childhood, or abuse suffered in life.
There was one particular experiment he mentioned done with rats. When placed in a box and offered two sources of water - one pure and the other laced with heroin - the rats would always choose the drugged water. They eventually died. However, when rats were placed in an environment that allowed them to socialize with other rats, and that provided play (mazes, colourful blocks, running wheels, etc), they tended to choose the pure water. And the rats were healthy.
I just thought this might be interesting food for thought, especially for those of you who write fan fiction
I had a thought last night while playing DA2. Dunno what triggered it but here goes.
As we are aware Templars use lyrium in order to gain their abilities. Thus I wonder if it has an effect on them in terms of their libido.
Like one Templar takes it and becomes less adventitious; where as another takes lyrium and becomes an Isabella-wanting to sleep with anyone.
Perhaps this is why recruits in DA2 where so keen on going to the brothel. Maybe they were afraid they could lose their desire.
Granted Thrask shows up at some point there, but for all we know he could have paid to get his feet rubbed.
I wonder if Cullen was affected in terms of his libido being almost dormant. Thus once removed from it slowly climbed back to normal.
There are real life over the counter medications that can have the same effect on people.
Just a thought.

I was actually planning on tackling that issue in my next DA 2 fanfic chapter
But rather than having his libido affected, I was thinking of giving Cullen a more detached attitude. The idea is to make him question how far he has gotten from his real self because of lyrium. Can he still empathize? Can he still love? Should be ready in the next two weeks ![]()

It would also fit in nicely with his aloof demeanor in the armory if you have him keep taking lyrium. He barely looks at the IQ.
Question: Has it been canonically decided whether it's fur or feathers on his cloak?
And now, the many adventures of Kael Lavellan...
Step 1. Wondering if he should do it. Should he do it?
Step 2. Oh yeah. This is happening.
Step 3. *wink wink nudge nudge*
Step 4. "I'm now going to laugh shyly and look cutely embarrassed, almost as if they were going to make my romance possible."
Step 5. Drown your sorrows.
EDIT: And here I just thought everyone looked cool. It looked like a genuine scene. Cass and Kael worried and confused about what's going on, even Varric a little concerned. Solas hanging back, thoughtful but not contributing.

I believe the answer is yes it's bear fur, but I can't recall where I saw it and can't say 100% if it was direct from the devs. Guess that's not any help!
Do you guys have any recs on a good gaming laptop? I might end up getting one. I'm basically a Mac girl so doing research has ranged from slightly confusing to overwhelming. PM me if you would like so we don't get OT, I feel like I can trust y'alls opinions.

That's good enough for me
Just want to get it right in my ficcie. Danke!

That's interesting. I wonder whether it's just he does not have the desire while being under lyrium, or does it makes it more difficult for him to get to *that*? There are medications who makes it harder for *it* to happen (but can still happen). IIRC someoneone of the Anticoagulant treatment make it harder to happen because it change blood viscosity. I'm not sure about that tho, whether that's only a myth or is it real. Can't find any reliable source on the matter.

Wow, I'm waiting for that one then, it's the updated version of the one you showed me?
Question: Has it been canonically decided whether it's fur or feathers on his cloak?
Dev said it's bear fur, I remember discussing about it here. IIRC it was R2s who found the info?

Here we go:
Brown bear fur with bits of it dyed red. I asked one of the devs a while back, lol.
It is bear fur. 100% confirmed by devs on Twitter to Lola.I believe the answer is yes it's bear fur, but I can't recall where I saw it and can't say 100% if it was direct from the devs. Guess that's not any help!

I've had good luck with my Alienware 18, but I know a lot of people will tell you avoid anything Dell-related.
I can run the game at pretty high settings with the SweetFX graphics patch. But honestly, your best bet is to build a desktop PC if you want a gaming rig. If I'd had the time I would have done that. (The hard drive on my old laptop was failing so I had to buy a new one and quick.) It'll be cheaper than getting anything pre-built, and you won't have to worry so much about fan heat that a laptop generates.
And here's a Cullen to stay on topic:

My Quizzy was talking with Cullen when i realized that there was a beheaded soldier training next to them.

If you really want something devoted to gaming, I would go desktop PC. It'd be cheaper in the long run, and more powerful. I had mine custom built by CyberpowerPC and couldn't be happier with it. I've seen lots of bad reviews on their stuff, but so far they've all been from folks that bought their "off the shelf" units that are full of generic low-end hardware. if you spend the time and pick out name-brand high-end components then you'll have a completely different experience. A desktop also gives you the flexibility to swap components out as the years pass in order to keep up with newer games. You also have the ability to pick your case/fan combo. I picked out the largest full-size case I could get (this thing is huge - about 24" x 24" x 12"). But I never have any heat problems.
Even if you need mobility and must have a laptop, I would still recommend CyberpowerPC. My b/f had his gaming laptop built by them and is very happy - and probably spent half the price as an Alienware but with the same (or better) capabilities. I would stay far far far away from anything related to Dell (and thus Alienware by default). Besides, you're paying for the name.
Pricewise - you can get a pretty nice gaming PC or laptop built from CyberpowerPC for around $1,000. Or you can go as nuts as you want. My b/f's laptop was just over $1,100. My desktop PC came out to just under $2,000, and it was pretty much the most powerful PC I could build while staying with a single GPU and HDD (back in Jan 2014). Another very nice thing about going custom is that you don't get any sort of bloatware added onto your OS that you can never get rid of.
In all reality - a desktop is where it's at for gaming. To tool around the interwebz while sitting on the couch, use a tablet. ![]()

I'm actually playing with the head-canon that lyrium adds stamina, which leads to...stuff...lots and lots of stuff... ![]()

I dunno if that would have anything to do with lyrium. It could just be the "silent treatment." I get that all the time irl. ![]()
I didn't think I'd have time to do a Valentine's Day doodle but I decided to make time so I could practice coloring skin yay

I made sure I'd have skin on the canvas to experiment on after the rendering...( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
For anyone that's interested, I've finally put the high res Cullen screenshots I've been posting in this thread (and some that haven't been posted) into their own public album at http://fontofnothing.imgur.com/. Took me long enough! Also, has the newish Cullen subreddit been posted here yet?: http://www.reddit.com/r/CullenMancers
ilu ;-;

dayum guuurl! what's in his mouth?
It's going to be a rose, haha xD I figured I'd leave it for last since I have to get the lighting on his face (and body ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ) right first. It's just going to be gratuitous Valentine's Day Cullen being suave and sensuous, herp de hurr durr.

The way that I thought about it... Well, it's not that *it* cannot happen, it's just that because he cannot form a more meaningful attachment due to the use of lyrium, *it* doesn't happen very often. I have included something on the lines that he dallied with someone, but that he was left disappointed because he could not mount an emotional response.
But lyrium leading to impotence - at least in some individuals - is an interesting concept.
And, no, it's not an updated version of what I have showed you
It's basically the lead-up to it. My DA 2 fanfic is quite long (almost 40k words, and I am not even halfway through), and it will deal with Cullen's changing attitude towards the Order, mages, the Chantry, and lyrium. Hawke will play a central role in this process, and the next chapter (13) will get things going ![]()

Aww thank you! Yes, I have some more shots up - they are from the lake date scene. I'm going to try and get some higher rez ones of the same scene soon - those are only 1080p.
