Well, I guess he becomes much more "Hisrad" rather than "The Iron Bull". I've yet to a PT like you are planning on doing, I am far too nice and soft. I wish you luck in your endeavor!

I'm not very good at that kind of PT either. I made a couple in DAO that were somewhat neutral, but I have never been good at powergrabbing. I love to hear about other people doing it, though.

So I went back to play the other DA games-well at least DA2, had some issues with Origins.
I wanted to analyze Cullen's character.
In DAO:
Cullen seemed to a little awkward and wanting to prove himself as newly recruited Templar. But by the time events in The Tower happened, Cullen became a bitter angry a'hole.
DA2:
Second year into Kirkwall, Cullen is well a real douche bag. Mr. "All mages are evil, grrr. Must do my duty."
Fourth year in Kirkwall Cullen starts to break down-not a lot-a little.
Seventh year in Kirkwall Cullen starts to show signs of his current personality in DAI. Questioning the order, who he is truly serving, more approachable and less prone to male PMS. While he does not display this constantly it does show when you speak to him candidly.
Makes me wonder if Cullen was always intended as the Commander in Inquisition.
None the less I found it most interesting to back track and see how Cullen was before and what we have now.
Just wanted to share my thoughts etc. etc. 
~Oh and I will say I am super grateful the developers put Cullen in DAI and gave him such a huge role and a romance path. Don't think I'd be playing this game if Cullen was not in it. ~

I have tested this. Basically, you can get the knife-throwing scene after you judged Samson (which is available after the completion of both Arbor Wilds and the war table mission). You can trigger the scene no matter how you judge Samson. You don't need to complete Before the Dawn either. However, if you want to send Samson to Cullen during his judgement, you DO need to complete Before the Dawn.
Soo....I am planning on playing through as a "bad guy"...for science!!
The problem is, in this game, it seems like going "renegade" really isn't possible, since all decisions have their own merit (ie, not many clear bad guy choices)
So I thought I might take the approach of just being straight up power hungry and out for myself.
Go to Redcliffe, meet Dorian, but decide to side with Templars instead (which should make Dorian and Solas upset)
Conscript templars (to make Varric and Cass angry).
Make Cullen take lyrium (with no promise of cure later...eg, to serve the Inquisition)
Encourage Leliana to be psycho
Tell Cass the Seekers are crap? - I am not sure if this gets her angry or what happens..
Get the Sarnia demon to give me a boon instead of fighting him.
Be mean in general to everyone - excpet maybe Vivienne...play up the power hungry thing...
Wicked hearts - side with Gaspard and let Celene be killed
Abyss - send the Grey Wardens away? - not sure what gets the most dissaproval from the most people on that one...
Temple - kill the elves, drink from the thing, don't do the tile rituals
Be generally nasty to everyone...
Will this route get me punching scenes? Any other advice for how to play a power hungry renegade? Is there a list somewhere?
And note, I realize that some of these are perfectly valid decisions with their own merits...what I am going for is maximizing diassaproval from all party members, trying to get some punches in, get them to basically fear and hate me as much as possible. Any help would be great!
This is not evil enough!! You have to reconcile Celene and Briala by showing them the Elven locket, then let Celene die and execute Briala for maximum evilness 
Frankly speaking, I find it rather hard to make everyone angry at you. If you favor Solas in all big decisions (e.g. ally with mages, favor Briala, exile grey wardens, follow the ritual etc.), Sara, Blackwall and possibly Vivienne are at their lowest approval. I guess judgements help but I don't remember seeing many 'greatly disapprove'.

I found that as well with his office being extremely dark. Poor Cullen got the bad end of the deal with his office being dark and his bedroom's roof having giant holes in it there are still old planks and rubble on the floor too
