Pffffft this made me laugh Ummm yeah I'd be happy imagining scars all over my Dalish's boy lovely body, so long as his equally lovely face is left clean

 

It's so unrealistic, but it's just something I've embraced. Like I said, in Skyrim I have all the mods that make everyone gorgeous and perfect lol Maybe I watch too much anime *rubs chin*

 

Tishina -- that's interesting!! I haven't heard any NPC comments against elves other than the one I reported. Well that's good to know. I'd also like more (negative) reactivity to my own race, but at least that's something.

I guess I like my characters to be too sexy for your Circle (sorry, that's the best I can do after an exhausting weekend... sister had her baby ) But yeah I'm also the person who downloaded all the mods to make everyone in Skyrim pretty And I'll probably eventually download the softer Cassandra mod >.>

Wow, I don't know what you're talking about, I mean yeah, Auren Lavellan is very brave and never shies from battle, keeps a cool head under pressure, has beautiful dark hair and piercing grey-blue eyes that sparkle like the sun off the waves of the ocean, is in perfect condition because he is an elf (I mean come on), and makes delicate Orlesian ladies (and some gentlemen) faint as he struts past them. My god how dare you accuse me of playing/writing a Marty Sue

Yes, there are a few others, but it's hard to catch them. One of the more obvious ones is near the merchants at Skyhold. There's a human talking to a dwarf there, saying thank goodness he gets to deal with the dwarf instead of one of them. The dwarf finally pins him down and finds out he's talking about elves (and I've heard this on both my Dalish IQ PTs, lol.) The dwarf just calls him "human" in an obvious insult. I wanted to hug him, lol. And I've half-heard some other things in the tavern.

So I tried~ to recolor Cullen's robes into a nice solid black and his pauldrons into a posh salt-and-pepper, just to see what it would look like, and...

 

Well, the good news is that I've finally succeeded in getting rid of the flufflies, at last.

 

The bad news is that....

Duuuuude, I'd pay money to have a mod that nicely removes the fur cloak. He looks that good with normal shoulders     

I swear, he probably wears that bulky, distracting boa just because he doesn't want to make anyone feel too ugly/self-conscious/inferior

In all honesty, when writing, I sort of worry the opposite... not writing a Marty Stu, but writing someone who's just so over the top angsty... I think that character pops up in m/m stories more often than other types. Like the guy is just always weeping or stomping away in angst-ridden despair, only to be later comforted by his big handsome perfect boyfriend... it's another form of self-insert I imagine lol I try so hard to avoid it... so very very hard.

In all honesty, when writing, I sort of worry the opposite... not writing a Marty Stu, but writing someone who's just so over the top angsty... I think that character pops up in m/m stories more often than other types. Like the guy is just always weeping or stomping away in angst-ridden despair, only to be later comforted by his big handsome perfect boyfriend... it's another form of self-insert I imagine lol I try so hard to avoid it... so very very hard.

That's something I never considered - he seems like the type that would want to cover up in a way. It's still commanding but isn't showing off.

Well, after the latest patch...my banter and dialogue NOW has the freaking bug. I am not pleased...not pleased in the slightest, but before that I certianly heard quite a few insults hurled my way or to those who shared my character's race.

Yeah I have the banter bug now too, on PS4.  Really not happy about it but I guess I just either have to stop playing or let it go.  What's really annoying is my husband FINALLY got around to starting a game today and he probably won't experience a quarter of the banter I did.  I guess that'll teach him to procrastinate. PC players have a mod now and seems like it's working great for them.

 I did this a while back by editing the alpha channel in his armor's diffuse map, even though I knew it would just make parts of him invisible (since the fur is a part of his armor mesh and not a separate piece), and it was hilarious. Still makes me laugh.

 

Seriously, though, that fur has been a pain. I've tried so many times to work with the fur (while trying to keep the same overall appearance) and even increase the texture size, but it's just incredibly stubborn. Just today I painted my own fur with my tablet and it was basically worse.  I even tried out a lovely high res free painted fur texture from DeviantArt for a totally different look... also no good. Still blocky. The more detail there was, the worse it looked, even at 3k (4k seems broken with the more recent versions of the modding tool). That fur mantle hates me, but I continue to try.

 

I currently use a slightly modded version that you can see in my screenshots. It's a 3k texture, with some smudging/smoothing in problem areas. Doesn't make a huge difference, unfortunately.

This one is in Skyhold rather than Haven.

 

I wonder if this might be one of the banter-bug things, because while it hasn't been as in-my-face as it sometimes was in DAO, there have definitely been negative remarks about elves right in front of my two dalish IQs.

LOL, I had no idea Cully's fuzzthing was so disliked. I've always assumed part of the reason it was added was so there would be soft furry cushioning for hugs. Even if it is decorated with battle dirt and sweat, as some here have theorized. His armor in DAI also looks much slimmer than what he had in DAO and DA2. He'd probably be bumpy to cuddle otherwise and it seems like it could be awkward. I wonder what it would be like to have a heavy armor wearing Quizzy hug a fuzzless Cullen during the prayer scene...I imagine it would sound a lot like clanking tin cans. Cute and heartfelt clanking, but clanking nonetheless.

 

But he does look incredibly dashing without the fuzz. sigh

 

Huh... do some people headcanon that they try to keep the relationship a secret? I've always imagined Cullen being very open about it - not the details, mind you, but when he and the IQ decide to spend some time together (in my headcanon they have dinner in her quarters every night after the romance starts - no sleeping over, though  ) they're very upfront about it. No more sneaking around and making excuses, like he may possibly have had to do with another Circle mage back in the day... 

 

I felt the same way. Cullen seems the type to be very honest about things, and I feel like he'd have no desire to hide his relationship with the Quizzy because it might imply he was ashamed that he was doing something wrong. He is worried about what the Quizzy thinks of their relationship, but he's absolutely being genuine on his end and I don't think he personally thinks any aspect of the relationship is problematic. There's no power imbalance because he gets an equal say in things and you're both two consenting adults, so it's nothing like the situation between him and the Warden back then (And Inquisition reveals that canonically nothing happened between them because he didn't want to be inappropriate, though of course we're free to headcanon that something did happen if we want).

 

Also, I like to headcanon that he's secretly very proud that he's in a relationship with such a courageous and capable person. She's so cool, the world ought to know, I'll taunt Mia by "accidentally" letting the fact that I'm dating the Quizzy slip and then annoy her by not saying anything else because that's the brotherly thing to do, I have an amazing warrior girlfriend and I don't want to brag (but I do) - that sort of thing. He does say it would be a pity if there was nothing for the people to gossip about even though he'd rather some of the details be kept private, after all.

I would never remove the fur, I love it, especially in the scene when you hug him.

 

The only mod I'd like to see for Cullen is one that adds eyelashes (in some scenes it looks like he doesn't have any). And maybe one that makes him a little bit less waxy pale in some lighting. 

He's good the way he is though, I'm not complaining
