This one is in Skyhold rather than Haven.

I wonder if this might be one of the banter-bug things, because while it hasn't been as in-my-face as it sometimes was in DAO, there have definitely been negative remarks about elves right in front of my two dalish IQs.

These dialogs happen regardless of your IQ's race. It's just ambient NPC dialog that you overhear and not said in reference to your IQ, even though you can overhear it on an elf PC.

 

To add to the references though... In Haven, when you first talk to Seggrit he is annoyed that the "knife-ear" he paid to tell him you've awoken didn't do as promised. Also, there is Scout Charter conversing with Scout Pellane (probably wrong spelling): when you first see them there was some previous incident for which Cullen makes him apologize -- based on later conversation I think he called her a knife-ear. And there is another knife-ear reference when you talk to the healer in Redcliffe and attempt to convince her to go to the Crossroads.

If your IQ is an elf, I think there is some additional dialogue - the dwarf says something like "It's probably not smart to talk like that around the Inquisition." To which the man replies, "This is different, the Maker did this." The dwarf gives an appropriately disgusted response.

For starters....

 

Cullen's cloak is fine - I am not bothered by it. Although it would be nice to see him in something then his armor all the time, but then again I understand as to why he is.

 

As for scars, I don't mind them so long as they are tastefully done. Some of those scars in the CC can cover your whole character's face - no thank you, Sides, my character has a story with her scar.

 

Mel....what the hell do you use to capture your Screenshots? I got the program for uh DAI. you know the screenshot capture thingy, a damn good computer and my graphics are all on high. Do share your secret please. <shakes a bag of cookies>.

 

Since, Mel is doing her Templar/Templar romance. I am running through my Cullen/Mage romance-again- for the uh 10th time? I think. LOL!

 

Anyways, I know some people have asked in the past as to what lines a Mage gets etc etc. Thus here is the first video in Part 3. More shall come as I go along. If you have any requests just post them and I'll see what I can do.

Well, the good news is that I've finally succeeded in getting rid of the flufflies, at last.

I felt the same way. Cullen seems the type to be very honest about things, and I feel like he'd have no desire to hide his relationship with the Quizzy because it might imply he was ashamed that he was doing something wrong. He is worried about what the Quizzy thinks of their relationship, but he's absolutely being genuine on his end and I don't think he personally thinks any aspect of the relationship is problematic. There's no power imbalance because he gets an equal say in things and you're both two consenting adults, so it's nothing like the situation between him and the Warden back then (And Inquisition reveals that canonically nothing happened between them because he didn't want to be inappropriate, though of course we're free to headcanon that something did happen if we want).

 

Also, I like to headcanon that he's secretly very proud that he's in a relationship with such a courageous and capable person. She's so cool, the world ought to know, I'll taunt Mia by "accidentally" letting the fact that I'm dating the Quizzy slip and then annoy her by not saying anything else because that's the brotherly thing to do, I have an amazing warrior girlfriend and I don't want to brag (but I do) - that sort of thing. He does say it would be a pity if there was nothing for the people to gossip about even though he'd rather some of the details be kept private, after all.

This may not be a popular opinion, but I personally believe the lion mane collar is irretrievably intertwined with his character and removing it lessens him.  The parallels between Cullen and lion were deliberate design choices informed by his personal story which I found inspired, from his amber eyes to his lion helmet (which I wish we could have seen more of).  It signifies his transformation from boy in the tower to the man he is today and is referential of Greek myth's first labour of Hercules.  There is Cullen as caged lion in Kinloch Hold, Cullen as raging lion in his hatred of mages, Cullen as fierce lion, hungry and unrestrained. Without the collar, the lion symbolism is lost and he looks like every other armoured NPC.  He might as well be Alistair with a scar on his lip.  

 

Symbolism aside, it is also practical.  Skyhold is damn cold.  But, by all means, don't let this stop anyone from removing his fluffies.

Still it's interesting to see his shoulder. For scientific & artistic purpose

 

therealmcgee got the shoulder already since a few times back (gosh I love her works! If she continues to draw like that I'll really be fangirling her like I fangirl Greg). Too bad she's not doing comission.

 

 

Personally I love both. He has good shoulder. But my Inquisitor might prefer the fur on, she's one one who'll have to hug him.

 

And you get the point right on Skyhold being cold. I really wish they'll give him a GoT style cloak for outings.

Here - these are my favorite too. I'm using the blue one on my warriors and the black one on my rogues, and they're sooo pretty. *_*
 

 I did this a while back by editing the alpha channel in his armor's diffuse map, even though I knew it would just make parts of him invisible (since the fur is a part of his armor mesh and not a separate piece), and it was hilarious. Still makes me laugh.

lol please, it's just a mod. I don't care if people remove Cullen's facial hair or give him a three feet long woodcutter's beard or make his eyes blue or paint his hair brown or dye his robes bright pink with fluorescent yellow polka dots. Cullen is still Cullen. If he's not strong enough of a character to withstand a recolor of his fluffy boa, he's not that strong of a character to begin with, yeah.

 

Not to mention some of us really dislike the whole forced lion association on principle and would rather see it gone anyway. /shrug

I love the thematic analysis, but it seems the lion helmet wasn't actually designed or meant for Cullen. A video posted some pages back reveals that it was dug up from the files and slapped on him because they couldn't get his lip sync working right in the trailers and had to hide his face.

 

Also, I think the Nemean lion parallel would work better if Cullen was Hercules and the lion was his extreme anger toward and distrust of mages, which he had to fight and overcome; having done so he now wears the mane as a trophy. But I digress.

Well... if you don't like it, then don't use the mods. Each person has their own preferences. If some want to mod Cullen without the fur, anyone who does not like that doesn't have to do that, vice versa. That's the whole point of mod, it's optional.

 

To each their own preferences, headcannons, imaginations. If someone wants to imagine Cullen is actually a pink fluffy unicorn in disguise & will turn to a dragon if kissed, it's their own right. If someone wants to mod Cullen as a rainbow coloured elephant, let them be. About Cullen being a lion, many people I discussed with don't like that & the only thing I can find about the concept is his helmet which doesn't even make it inside the game. I know that many, including myself, like the lion parallel but many don't.

Actually in his own words if you talk to him  about the  potential gossip he will say that a )you can't avoid gossip in the barracks  b )  he rather people gossip than have to say nothing about the relationship. He might be a bit awkward around the Inquisitor in the early stages of their relationship, but he is not a shy man and can be quite cocky too (his chess game with Dorian attests to this)

I really do hope they do focus more of story than a mission here or there and def no more areas... I love the game and the areas but as others have pointed out some of the areas just seem to exist for side quests. The whole attraction for playing DA was the story driven games. More lore would be fantastic!

I've got no idea where the DLC would go, I think most would expect after the main quest line? What happens if it's not? (as in what do you think if it's not). I actually don't think we'd get much more information about Cullen, I think it will be more driven by lore in the game (hopefully)

 

@Nine, keep at it! I'd love to see him without the bear fur! I'm not one for using mods until I'm exhausted or bored of the vanilla game so it would be nice to be able to admire his shoulders and back later on

I wouldn't say clear, although folks can headcanon whatever they like about how it might parallel his character's evolution. In terms of Thedosian symbolism, the lion doesn't have anything to do with Cullen or Ferelden. It's been clearly established in the lore as an Orlesian symbol, associated with the Orlesian crown and the Valmont family. Taken with the fact that the lion helm was a kludge to cover bad animation, I'm not even convinced a lion association was even intended by the devs. But who knows what the original artist might say about his/her inspiration; MLaw et al. barely remembered Cullen's helmet.

So that all being said, I also personally hate the lion helmet and the fur, which I would venture to say is the actual unpopular opinion, since there are probably more fans that love it. And that's cool. But I think the symbolism is still more headcanon than anything else.
