I think what he meant was he'd rather have the recruits talk about SOMETHING rather than nothing, whether it's about your relationship or anything else. It gives them something to focus on, joke about, bond over (gossip) rather than thinking about dying. At least that's how I've taken it every time I've had the convo with him.
Recruit don't need Cullen's sex life to find something to gossip about, he is talking about the relationship in particular in that line. However, even if you read it the way you did, the fact that he doesn't mind it, shows he is not shy about it.
Cullen has a shy and gentle awkward side, but he is not a shy person.
I don't really see his reaction as being honest (as in I doubt it even crossed his mind to think about "hide or not to hide it"), more like a normal and confident acceptance of things. If nothing else, he discusses the implications of your status with you and only proceeds after you give him the green light, there is no reason to ponder them after that, it would be insecure. If you are noble until you bring up the issue it does not crosses his mind (pointless dialogue was pointless).

I really do hope they do focus more of story than a mission here or there and def no more areas... I love the game and the areas but as others have pointed out some of the areas just seem to exist for side quests. The whole attraction for playing DA was the story driven games. More lore would be fantastic!
I've got no idea where the DLC would go, I think most would expect after the main quest line? What happens if it's not? (as in what do you think if it's not). I actually don't think we'd get much more information about Cullen, I think it will be more driven by lore in the game (hopefully)
It's fun to speculate! Some disagree but I still think they could do a prequel to show Justinia working with Leliana and Cass to form the Inquisition, call the conclave. You could play as Cassandra or someone else involved and show Cullen's recruitment in Kirkwall as part of it. Or play as Cullen! *squee*. But I also think due to fan reaction and the post-credits scene they'll probably do Solas related DLC first, then something else later. Unless they are saving Solas' story for another game, but that would be so far away, people might riot.

My cats came up, after I had started feeding Suger Bear my sister named her now I has three. I named the grey Taby Wyane
The kitten I thinks will be named Cassandra or Lileana since those names fit her. Due to her already ninja like skills and acting tough towards the big birds and dogs in the Neighborhood lol.

Thank you! That was my DG (Dolce & Gabbana) when he was just over a week old. I found him and his sisters under a bush in my yard with a feral mommy. As my mother is a vet tech and has experience hand-raising kittens, we took them away from her since we didn't want them to end up feral. I bottle-raised all three - the two girls went to a good home and I ended up keeping him. He's just over four years old now and is my buddy. He does the cutest "tap-tappy" thing on my knee when he wants attention. I've hand-raised three separate litters in total...but he's the only one I've kept.
I have six cats - DG, Salem, Moxie (if you're from New England you will appreciate that name), Merlin, Orion, and Juniper Berry. I don't have any DA-named animals. The only "fan names" I have are Juniper Berry (after the mead in Skyrim) and an Olde English Bulldogge named Hershel (after one of my fav The Walking Dead characters).

Oh...poor Carroll! I wish there was more development on him in DA:I. We just overhear Cullen talking to the messenger about him, then you get the table mission. And when I went to take care of Carroll it was over so fast I didn't even realize it was him...

Neither did I the first time. I just wondered past some red templars while in the emerald graves... and yeah.

If you pick Cullen for the War Table mission (which I did once)-the one where he suggests depriving the red templars of lyrium to make them talk
- Cullen's note after its completion will be "...please make it quick. I knew him once."

Actually in his own words if you talk to him about the potential gossip he will say that a )you can't avoid gossip in the barracks b ) he rather people gossip than have to say nothing about the relationship. He might be a bit awkward around the Inquisitor in the early stages of their relationship, but he is not a shy man and can be quite cocky too (his chess game with Dorian attests to this)
His words are "I would rather my--our--private affairs remain that way, but, if there were nothing here for people to talk about, I would regret it more." I think all he's saying is that just because he doesn't like his men gossiping about their relationship doesn't mean he regrets starting it.I think what he meant was he'd rather have the recruits talk about SOMETHING rather than nothing, whether it's about your relationship or anything else. I think it is being honest because of the direct contrast to his attempt to hide his romantic feelings towards the mage Warden ten years ago as brought up by Tarlonniel. Certainly he wasn't harming anyone but himself by it, but at the very least he wasn't being upfront because he definitely felt it was wrong. My point wasn't that he was a shy person in this particular situation - it was that, in the absence of morally questionable circumstances, he is certainly okay with the idea of his relationship being public knowledge. And even back in Kinloch Hold we can see how much difficulty he had with trying to "hide" his feelings for the mage - he's a genuine person at heart and failed somewhat spectacularly at being discreet about his feelings. Being honest is second nature to him - there doesn't need to be a conscious effort to decide whether he should lie or not, and one of the definitions of the word "honest" is to be "frank" ("direct and unreserved in speech; straightforward; sincere") so I think the word still applies. I actually think we're of the same opinion and the debate against the use of the word "honest" is really a debate over the semantics of the word here. But I appreciate your input, and I don't mean to step on any headcanon you have that maybe goes against what I'm saying.

"nothing to talk about here" can be interpreted in two ways "not having this relationship, therefore there would be nothing to talk about" and "not having anything interesting to say about it" both work well given then context.

I really don't want to speculate about his Circle days because since he was not meant to be significant character at that point I feel that the whole scene was done for laughs and not significance was put in it at that point. He calls it an infatuation if romanced in DAI and I rather to leave it at that. Actually, the term headcanon is very new to me, as I typically go with what I'm given in the game without adding to it, so if I'm not mistaken I don't headcanon (unless I don't understand the term correctly).
That said I was not really debating the issue of honesty, just analyzing the definition of it the way you phrased it, I guess, so yes, we are of the same opinion.

Agree. This is my interpretation as well. He'd rather have them gossip than there be no reason to gossip at all, i.e., not getting involved with her. So he's willing to risk the gossip to be with her, which is sweet. I just can't imagine him *wanting* to be gossiped about, given how he doesn't seem particularly forthcoming with personal matters.
Does that mean he wouldn't want people to know about the relationship? I dunno. TBH, I think someone getting involved with their superior is something that *should* be raising eyebrows, and while it's clearly not prohibited, it's something that should be undertaken with decorum and circumspection. Really, like any workplace romance. So, while I don't know that he'd be sneaking around, I would expect him to keep the relationship on the down low.

I always thought this to mean that if there was no reason for the gossip, ie no relationship with the Inquisitor, that's what he would regret.

Yet he hugs the IQ in the open after the battle in front of everyone (and nobody bats an eye).
I see someone like Josephine being more concerned about appearances than him, he is concern but mostly to the extend of IQ being ok with it and when reassured never brings this up again. Even the gossipers when they talk about the allure of power (if this is indeed about this relationship) speak of it as being an equal term relationship, at least don't comment on it as being scandalous. IQ may be a superior but Cullen is not a mere soldier.

Right.. but he doesn't do that until the end, and they set it up as a big moment. Like, to the Void with my concerns beforehand, I'm going to hug her in front of the whole damn army, because we're all happy to alive. Yay.
Plus, he also mentions in his initial reservations that one of his reservations is that she's the Inquisitor.
