The way I take it is that he's normally so straight-laced and business professional. However, I can picture him practically pulling out his hair and biting his nails in suspense whenever the IQ is away - he just can't let anybody see it. When she returns from the final battle, I see him practically bouncing on his toes waiting for her to climb those stairs and then finally he can't hold it back and gives her a hug in front of everybody. The way Cullen keeps himself in control and then just explodes is one of the things I like most about him - totally sexy. I see a lot of parallels between him and another dayum smexy character - Elijah from The Originals (yes, I watch The Originals - I am not ashamed!) Elijah is always seen wearing a perfectly put together suit - is all professional and business. He smolders with the best of them. And when he can't contain himself anymore OMG watch out.

Not wanting folks to gossip about their relationship is completely understandable, especially for such a "high profile" couple like being the #1 and #2 of the Inquisition. I wouldn't say he's ashamed of their relationship or even wants to keep it secret - it's just that it's really nobody's business. I liken that to any celeb that doesn't want to be in the tabloids.

I agree.

We all need to remember too that Cullen is a private person. While he is happy as hell to be with the Inquisitor he is just not one to run up to every person and tell them He and the Inquisitor are involved and doing cartwheels.

By the time the end comes, Cullen is not only so damn in love with your character but also VERY happy your character survived. I mean Cullen WANTS to spend the rest of his life with the Inquisitor.  He has lost so much in his life and to lose the one thing he cherishes above all else (well maybe aside from his duties) would no doubt destroy him mentally. Thus Cullen hugs your Inquisitor and does not give a damn what other people think or say at this point.

It will be most interesting to see what the future holds for your/my Inquisitor and Cullen.

Lol, guys what is up with Carroll?! Did he have some gleaming moment in DA:O, because it seems that people really love the guy? I just found him to be a sarcastic ass...did I miss some dialogue or codex entry? Keep in mind I was playing a very persuasive*female* human noble.

I thought he was an incompetent tool and had no love for him (similar to my opinion of Jowan, I guess). I think it just provokes a reaction in people because the doofus Queen of Antiva becoming a hideous monster is one of relatively few DA:O-like "damn, Writers' Pit, that's cold" moments in DA:I.

  :(   My game must had glitched then. I never saw any other dialogue options than persuading him yourself, saying Gregor would punish him, or that my Warden was indeed a Grey Warden.

*squeals* In other news: someone commented on my Solavellan chapter and their comment made me so proud and happy! I really appreciate it that they took the time to comment on my first chapter and left such compliments on my work. I am happy.

Indeed.

That is one of the many places where Alistair and Cullen differ. I find Alistair to be far more of an extrovert when he is compared to Cullen, and I know that he also would be far more inclined to dancing about and telling everyone that he was with the Warden. In fact, I think Alistair actually does comment on how he is so in love with the Warden...I believe he does it with Wynne, and Leliana...or Wynne and Morrigan. He also is very open about his relationship with the Warden, hence the convos in DA2, the public display of affection in Awakening to his wife(The Warden), etc.

I think Anders would even be more likely to do cartwheels about his relationship with Hawke and tell everyone about it, rather than Cullen.

There is no justice in the world if Anders does not cartwheel about and I will have my vengeance if he is forbidden from doing so.  ^_^

Thank you! That was my DG (Dolce & Gabbana) when he was just over a week old. I found him and his sisters under a bush in my yard with a feral mommy. As my mother is a vet tech and has experience hand-raising kittens, we took them away from her since we didn't want them to end up feral. I bottle-raised all three - the two girls went to a good home and I ended up keeping him. He's just over four years old now and is my buddy. He does the cutest "tap-tappy" thing on my knee when he wants attention. I've hand-raised three separate litters in total...but he's the only one I've kept.

I have six cats - DG, Salem, Moxie (if you're from New England you will appreciate that name), Merlin, Orion, and Juniper Berry. I don't have any DA-named animals. The only "fan names" I have are Juniper Berry (after the mead in Skyrim) and an Olde English Bulldogge named Hershel (after one of my fav The Walking Dead characters).

Juniper Berry:

I love your kitty!!! Awwww....

If you pick Cullen for the War Table mission (which I did once)-the one where he suggests depriving the red templars of lyrium to make them talk  - Cullen's note after its completion will be "...please make it quick.  I knew him once."

The first time he suggested this I was nearly shouting, if it hurts him so much I'd expect he wouldn't want it for others... But well...

Not sure if you guys saw this, but Greg Ellis tweeted recently that he's joining another "iconic video game franchise"!! I can't even imagine what it could be, but I would cry if he showed up in the Elder Scrolls series.

I hope so!!! But then, it might be fairly disappointing. Gideon Emery spoke horribly in Skyrim.... Well, they forced him to use weird accents.

Okay we seem to bounce from one consensus to the next from day to day around here >.< When I was working on my fic, it seemed agreed upon that Cullen was reluctant to initiate the romance between himself and the inquisitor because of the difference in rank. But now everyone seems to agree that he has no issues with that whatsoever.

Well, I wrote that the reason he and the inquisitor never got together during the course of the game was because he felt it might be inappropriate (but also because he feared his affections were one-sided). I'm hoping this won't be considered ooc by readers :( What do you guys think?

Just tell the story you want to tell

So many different interpretations mean that your story will always be in character for some, OOC for other. So, to hell with that ^_^

Justice has forbidden Anders from doing cartwheels. :P

Merrill would :P

Disappearing socks.......

RE: Cullen and hesitation on starting a relationship, thanks for all your comments :) I think Cullen has been one of the more difficult characters for me to write and keep in character, so I've been really stressing about that. The inquisitor also has less of an established personality than someone like Hawke (whom I've also written) so I'm terrified of writing a blah self-insert Marty Stu type. I want everything to feel easy and natural and for all Cullen fans to enjoy the fic (assuming they're interested in the pairing, of course! which is a-okay if they're not).

Do any of you guys feel this level of anxiety when writing the inquisitor in your stories?

I also felt rather challenged when it came to writing Cullen, at least in certain situations. You may recall my vague posts about Cullen and his actions in tense situations.

Sometimes I worry my females will be thought of as Mary Sues, simply because I love describing a character's thoughts, actions, feelings, and appearance. However, everything seems to work out in the end.

Well, I didn't love the guy, but I seem to be an exception for considering him slimy for his behavior toward Leliana and Morrigan. Even without them, I just found him annoying at best. Maybe it's the people who crossed with Sten in the party who like him, I dunno, that conversation appears to have been a lot more entertaining in that case.

Mass Effect 4 (or whatever they will end up calling it)?  God I am so excited for that game.

I've never played a Mass Effect game (DONT HURT ME). Are there VAs with different accents in the series? Someone mentioned Fallout on twitter but seeing as that takes place in the US it seems unlikely.

Yeah, we've heard members of the Alliance (human space navy) with all sorts of accents including American/Canadian, British, and French.

Yes, definitely. Especially in regards to Cullen. It's hard for me to write him because of his complexity. He's confident yet shy when it comes to personal matters, kind yet has moments of rage due to his lyrium addiction, etc. He's very self-conflicting so you have to get his feelings in particular scenes just right in order to properly convey his character: a task that doesn't come without its challenges.

Well, that's *your* inquisitor's story right? So if you do self-insert that's totally fine...

About anxiety... well, no, usually my Inquisitor's dead most of the time so I never actually write her

I got his "Queen of Antiva" convo & cookies & surely funny.

Personally what I get from the whole story is that it adds to Cullen's character development. I headcanon that it's because of that "I could've been like him..."

So...just playing through DAO again and it hit me...is the ash warrior captain at Ostagar Greg Ellis?  I was chatting with him thinking, "Geez...what a sexy voice", then it started to sound a little like Cully, but I can't tell if I am making it up.  Does anyone know?

Agreed! Liked Caroll my first play through cause had Sten and it was cute. Playing again with Leliana, he was pretty creepy...

Still the monstrosity he becomes in DAI...ick!

Oh okay cool! That would be a really interesting game to see him in then because I've only ever experienced him in more historical settings (ie. Dragon Age & Pirates of the Caribbean). I have no doubt that he could pull off a futuristic character.

I don't write stories about my Inquisitor and Cullen mostly because I am not one to give them something then the DLCS or future DA games change all that. Like the whole Mod thing romancing Cullen in the tower, then later Cullen saying in game, "He never acted on it."

But I digress.

My anxiety does come when I think about playing another character and I can't. I end up making the same character and romancing Cullen all over again.

I have done that in previous games, numerous times. I guess it comes down wanting to tell my main character's story and no one else.

I doubt they're ready to start voice acting for ES6. Whatever that's going to be called. I'm hoping that it's a Bioware title, which (to me) means it would be Mass Effect. And I did read that and it had me wondering if Bioware uses the same voice direction regardless of title.

It would make sense because he's already worked with Bioware so he has his foot in the door there. I was just hoping for ESVI because there hasn't been any announcements for it yet, and I'm constantly looking for any hints. Really if he was in another game besides Bioware's it would be cool because that means other developers liked his work in DAI and who knows maybe it'll set him down the path for a lot of video game voice acting!

You can see all the characters he did in DA:O on the wiki: http://dragonage.wik..._cast_(Origins) (which, yes, includes the Ash Warrior)
