I'm not terribly familiar with the console, but can't you move some of the save files to a flash drive or something to preserve? If not, I'm really REALLY glad I'm not playing on a console, I'd hate that sort of limit.

I don't play on console - I'm on PC. There most def is a 250 save limit. I've gotten the nasty message several times over and had to go through and delete saves.

You can navigate to your save files in My Documents, but unfortunately, they aren't as easy to read as Mass Effect saves (which are divided by character and save #). They're all in one folder, not divided by character...and the naming convention is gobbledygook. No way to know which one is which to move it into "storage."

My emerging headcanon is that perhaps this is the result of the flaw in Cullen's shield use that Iron Bull points out. That he points it down too much (I can't remember the exact quote), and so got caught in his gorgeous mug. ^_^

Iron Bull talks about how he angles it in a specific way, downward I think, that is more effective against magic users' spells (he was admiring, not critical I think.) Unfortunately, watching the soldiers with the tower shields at the siege of Adamant yesterday, I couldn't help thinking someone didn't drill them properly in their siege use because several of them were not keeping them angled up to protect themselves from missiles (including very large rocks) from above which is what got most of them. The arrow slits from ahead really were a much smaller threat. And yes, I was watching them, fuming.

I've already hit the 250 save limit several times over...even had to delete my first character.  :(

Yeah, I had to move my first character out of the Bioware folders and compress all the saves. It really sucks. I much prefer the previous method of having separate directories for each character.

I think what IB says is that he angles it down to protect from magic. He's not critical of how he holds a shield, just that that's what they also teach the Qunari to protect from magical attacks.

How were you able to isolate which files belonged to what character? My Save folder is a rat's nest. The only way I can see anything is the file date changes the last time it was accessed - which doesn't help me at all if I've loaded up one of those old saves in-game at any point.

S**t, you're kidding? What in h**l's name were they thinking, between that and no file save names? I'm probably approaching that, sigh, but I haven't had a message yet. In DAO, you could just grab the folder with a character name and move it which is how I shifted a few PTs to my laptop when I got it. Are all their devs people who play a game once or twice without ever reloading anything, never have simultaneous PTs, and then dump the game for good? I'd have had serious reservations about getting the game if I'd known that because it pretty much strangles my longterm gameplay. I never have a single PT going at a time.

Edit: I just went and looked at that folder. It seems I will now need to record not only time with a mnemonic for saves I want to keep, I'll have to write down dates and times to remove but preserve all the save files for a particular PT. Wish I could give the person who made that decision an earful - why in the world are they going backwards in technology? I had games I was playing in the mid 90s with more useable save files. I guess it's must more of strangling PCs to limit them to what consoles can do, sigh.

I knew I would hit the save limit so I deleted the other characters about halfway through her playthrough. (None of them were completed pts.) I'm not actually sure why I'm keeping the saves though, because I'd have to unzip and copy them all back into the saves directory, and I don't know what reason I'd have to do that, especially not knowing what save is what.

Yes I've gotten this each time I've romanced him during WE/WH. Super cute.  What I haven't gotten is him saying "Did you just touch my bottom?" to the nobles, for some reason, even though I ran back over there after each task.

Oh? I don't remember he said it as a flaw, what I remember is that Bull said that he knows Curly's a templar because he angled his shield a bit down to avoid magical things spitting to his face like all Qunaris do when they fight the Vints.

I don't have the save anymore so if anyone can confirm?

Iron Bull talks about how he angles it in a specific way, downward I think, that is more effective against magic users' spells (he was admiring, not critical I think.) Aha! That's right. So what I was thinking is that, sure, that might work for protecting against magic, but I could see a regular ole sword slipping up over his guard that way. :) D'oh!

How were you able to isolate which files belonged to what character? My Save folder is a rat's nest. The only way I can see anything is the file date changes the last time it was accessed - which doesn't help me at all if I've loaded up one of those old saves in-game at any point.

ohman, I didn't know that. I'd been assuming I could go in and just move some of my files elsewhere once there are too many. But I realize I haven't even poked around in there yet. :(

I had no idea there was a 250 save limit until partway through my first Cullenmance. Having to go back to my previous characters and eliminate most of their "story" was quite painful, but, well, Cullen.

On PS4 you have separate save screens for each character then a list of all of their saves, but we can't name the saves either.  Would be nice to identify key points in the game (or right before a romance cutscene *cough*).

Yes, it's really bad if you have simultaneous PTs, they're all mixed together based on day and time; I hadn't actually looked yet either. I'm already seriously frustrated with being limited to 8 slots for abilities which seems to have been a choice made to make PC play more like consoles, sigh (if I wanted a d****d console, I'd buy one.) It's a royal PITA for the mages unless you just enjoy spending 1/4 of your game time switching abilities out on the tool bar before almost every single fight. Or just do what I do and keep slugging through the more difficult opponents with the wrong elemental abilities up. It's not the problem for warriors and rogues that I'm finding it to be for the mages, but it's definitely turning me off playing mages (if she wasn't my Cullenmance, I'm not sure I'd finish my Dalish mage's PT.) Plus the lack of storage, the surprise hair and eye color and makeup when you get out of the CC, etc.

Yes, I'm frustrated this morning, lol. It's a good thing I wrote off my first PT as the one to make all the stupid mistakes on...

Edited for not enough coffee yet to have good grammar...

I'm so glad I chose CullenxInquisitor as my OTP. There's no lack of talent here when it comes to fanart and fics. Keep 'em coming you talented souls you!

Here, have another bearded Cullen.

Drops by.

Hope everyone is well. Haven't been by as much as I want to. Had to get some actual work done over the last few days and stop procrastinating. Still working on my FanFic though. Almost at 10,000 words. :)

DLC cannot come quick enough. I don't think I can manage an 8th playthrough without some new content.

I cannot agree more. Bug fixes and the like would be great as well. And more armor/weapon and their schematics. There's so many amazing armor in the game worn by NPCs and random characters that we can't even get.

I sort of made my own.  I have a file folder for each character and back up my saves to the named character folder. So the saves are backed up and then I will know which character is which when the DLC comes out.

But how do you know which save belongs to what character? With file names like DAISAVEU04DFFB6CFCA it makes absolutely no sense.

On PC, in-game saves are divided up by character and then a list of their saves. However, all you can go by to identify which save you want under each character is game-time. I have a written scribble sheet that says stuff like:

3:57 - first flirt

28:04 - chess

44:18 - perseverance #1

etc, etc.

The actual save file in My Documents however, is a freaking mess. All you see is gobbledygook file names like:

DAISAVEU04DFFB6CFCA

DAISAVECHAPFFB6CFCA

DAISAVEU0018DF92CF8

DAISAVEU043FFB6CFCA

I suppose there's some meaning to the "04DFFB6CFCA," but I sure have no idea what it means. All I've been able to figure out so far is that each time you access a save, it's time stamp changes, essentially allowing you to sort save files by most recent. Still doesn't help me sort them by character though, short of loading, seeing which file pops to the top and then writing down the name. That's just...cray cray.

LOL! Esp when the only sensible part of the file name is unneeded. I mean, duh, we know it's a DAI save!

Worrisome that it changes the time stamp on the file every time you access it. I reload my old saves all the time, but at least the ingame time stamp stays the same.

You're right. If I was looking at that, so I don't.

What I have done is, I only have one current character. Let's say Evelyn I play that character and I will back it up (because I have lost whole games before).  I have a folder in a separate place called Dragon Age Inquisition (you could do it right there I guess) then another folder called Inquisiton Saves, then I make a subfolder called Evelyn (I will make one for each character) and I place her game saves there. Once the playthrough is complete I will make another subfolder called game completed and place the last two saves there.  Yes I really am that anal about my saves. (insert laugh at myself)  But that way I know what's going on and where each game save is for each character.

Heck, I will even make notes on choices, romances etc so I know what character has done.

The problem with that is, I never have single PTs. I always play multiple characters so if I get frustrated or bored with what I'm currently doing on one, I can jump to another point in the game on another character. Maybe I just need to leave the folder with DAI saves open and every time I save an important point, move a copy to a separate folder. What a stupid PITA, though.

Yeah I generally only play character at a time. I might have a second going sometimes but that's rare. And I would still back it in a similar way.

Your idea sounds like it would work.

And it's totally a silly way to do saves (IMHO). It must be a product of the engine.

LOL yes I guess so.  I would probably limit my saves that way and back up in a block for the three.

But three characters at once would go against my anal retentive nature.   I need to finish what I start before I move on.

I need to relax more.  :P

Yeah...that's pretty annoying. I only play one character at a time now, because that's the only way I can keep track of the saves. If they have to have a save limit (which seems pretty unneccessary for PC) it would have been very helpful to at least be able to name the saves or just have them be grouped in a character folder.
