I've already hit the 250 save limit several times over...even had to delete my first character. :(

I probably hit 25 save limit daily.

But how do you know which save belongs to what character? With file names like DAISAVEU04DFFB6CFCA it makes absolutely no sense.

On PC, in-game saves are divided up by character and then a list of their saves. However, all you can go by to identify which save you want under each character is game-time. I have a written scribble sheet that says stuff like:

3:57 - first flirt

28:04 - chess

44:18 - perseverance #1

etc, etc.

The actual save file in My Documents however, is a freaking mess. All you see is gobbledygook file names like:

DAISAVEU04DFFB6CFCA

DAISAVECHAPFFB6CFCA

DAISAVEU0018DF92CF8

DAISAVEU043FFB6CFCA

I suppose there's some meaning to the "04DFFB6CFCA," but I sure have no idea what it means. All I've been able to figure out so far is that each time you access a save, it's time stamp changes, essentially allowing you to sort save files by most recent. Still doesn't help me sort them by character though, short of loading, seeing which file pops to the top and then writing down the name. That's just...cray cray.

What I did was set my files to be in the order of last modified and then started up a game and then shut it down to see which last few numbers were associated with that character.  Then I made a folder for that character and moved all the files with the matching numbers to that folder.  Then I just move them in and out of the game as I play them.  Gets annoying when you have a lot of saves, but it lets me have as many saves as I want for each of my Inquisitors.

Hope that makes sense and helps!

Edit: For example my first play through was Selene and all her file names are like this: DAISAVEAUTO9B8FA147.DAS

Everything ending 147 was for her play through.

Holy involved process, Batman!

I'm much too lazy to do that.

Wait, what do you guys mean when you say you can only have so many saves? I usually keep three saves going... I save once in Haven/Skyhold, then as I venture into a map (Hinterlands, etc.) I will go back and forth between two more saves. That way if I mess up I have my save in Haven/Skyhold to go back to.

But is it counting every time I hit "save"? Surely I've "saved" hundreds of times by now!!

Well, you have 3 saves... I have about 1 save before each Cullen-y cutscene & every major decision making. It's like 30 saves per character.

I'll probably test for something like that this weekend. I'm down to the last week or two on one PT, and I'd like to have a complete file of her saves when I finish her.

LOL yes I guess so.  I would probably limit my saves that way and back up in a block for the three.

But three characters at once would go against my anal retentive nature.   I need to finish what I start before I move on.

I need to relax more.  :P

lol! My practice of simultaneous PTs started years ago in MMORPGs when I'd hit a point that I needed someone else to team with me but wasn't willing to put up with a PUG to do it. I'd hop onto another, lower level character and play until one of my reliable gaming partners was available. My daughters refer to it as "making alt-itis into an asset." I had four PTs in DAO spaced out just so I fought the archdemon four weekends in a row, lol, but usually I hit a critical point (usually some point during the Landsmeet in DAO) when I focus on finishing that PT only.

No, you're writing over those saves, so if you write over a save file 50 times, it's still only 1 save. I have saves at key points during the game, like meeting Solas and Varric, flirting with the main LI, start of major quests, etc., and it adds up.

Nope, you're fine.

I have like 50ish saves per character because I'm trying to grab Shadowplay material and want to be able to go back in case I need something.

Ugh my day just keeps getting better and better my mobo died :(  Ugh now I have to rma it and pray that they do a cross shipment. The bad thing is that when the new mobo arrives is that I'm going to lose all my saves and mods I created unless I set up a new hd as my primary and the one i have my saves on as  a secondary

Ouch! That's an expensive repair. Since the HD wasn't effected, can you take it to have data recovery done if you don't want to replace the HD? Data recovery can be kind of expensive, compared to the cost of a new HD, depending on how much you need.

Okay! Drama has been dealt with and I should finally be able to devote all my time to editing my story, hopefully.  :?

So I will just leave a few more music teasers:

Not sure about your financials, but spare hdd's aren't that expensive at all. You can get a 2T WD Black for ~$100 these days. I've had great luck with them and they come with a 5 year warranty.

I would buy one to reload the OS on (did you happen to back up?), then use the original hdd as the spare. That way you have the newest hdd as your primary.

well luckily I have four 1 tb each hd that are new the hd in question though I have 300 gb of data that I need to recover that would be mighty pricey to recover that much data. I guess I'll just install the new hd and set the data that I need to recover hd as a secondary hd so I can access the data until I get everything off of it that I need

I'm much too lazy to do that.

First: I am totally the laziest when it comes to doing stuff with my game, which is why I never mod anything.  Ever.  Even though I want to, lol.  Second, I've seen your screen shots and what you use to get them and how nice they are.  You are not lazy.  You are fantastic.  It's really a lot easier than I make it sound, I'm sure.  Sorry! :(

Speaking of your screen shots...I run everything on the highest everything and mine never look as good as yours.  I'm guessing because you have the extra programs?  Is it possible to get you to take some of Blackwall and pm them to me so as to not derail the greatness of Cullen?

I know I never post here much, but, I have a grumpy warrior made to romance Cullen with.  She will be my 2nd with him.  First was a mage.  When I get around to her I will def be back to let you all know how it goes! <3

P.S The reason I like to have all my saves is because I have a tendancy to save before conversations and cut scenes so I can go back and watch them over and over.

These days it's so easy to have secondary drives...no more master and slave. Just plug that sucker in, make sure your BIOS is set to boot from the correct drive and you're off n' running. Some "off the shelf" setups even have "hot bays," where you can literally just plug it in without having to make sure it has power from the mobo. If the old drive still works, no need at all to even consider paying someone to recover stuff from it.

If you don't want to install it as an internal secondary, spend like $30 and get an enclosure for it. That turns it into an external USB drive.

Okay, thanks everyone. Phew. I understand now.

I don't do lots of saves like that in DAI, probably b/c I don't care for any of my LI choices. But in DA2 I did indeed save before every. single. Fenris. conversation  So I understand perfectly.

I was just afraid it was counting every time I hit save... thank god that's not the case b/c I pretty much save after every ten feet lol

Lots of us replay favorite scenes. I also like to have them to verify things said in game sometimes.

Awww thank you! The biggest graphics enhancement you can get for DA:I (short of running the game at max) is to use SweetFX. That's what cuts the awful overly red tones, knocks out the haze, and sharpens things up. I also noticed that using extra SMAA and Antisotropic filtering (via RadeonPro and NVIDIA CP) made a pretty decent difference.

I sure can take some shots of Blackwall for you. I don't use him much in this playthrough (at all actually...my IQ broke up with him so they don't really talk). I do have a Qunari in a romance with him so I will grab you some shots from that playthrough. Do you have a particular favorite scene? She's gotten as far as his judgement.

*edit*

So I forgot I got this not-so-great shot of Cullen last night:

6ftFT2Bl.png

This is when he's being harassed by the nobles...I can only imagine what's going on in his head based on his expression.

ya know what I miss separated save folders for each character I really hate having a whole ton of save files in one folder it can get really confusing at times. I'd even settle for save file renaming

Thank you so much!  I'm going to try the NVidia CP thing then and see if it helps.  And it seems there is a new driver too.

I feel so sorry for Cullen at the ball

Awww that poor pissed off man. Great shot though! Alas, few things can prepare a steadfast military man for the tittering frivolity of annoying Orlesians...they can't all be as amazing as Leliana

Edit: it looks like you used the black and red attire mod on nexus? And I take it it didn't break your game? All those disclaimers about liability and backing up saves and how we're all mod beta testers scares the crap out of me but I gotta do something to change up my 3rd playthrough. I'm using the camera zoom mod for conversations, and phew, that's A LOT of chesty Bull conversations! :D
