I think that if you're just posting your fanfic with a link to the art that sounds great! I'm sure the artist would be really touched, especially if you let them know ^^ I was approached the other day by someone who liked my scratchy Red Cullen sketch enough to write something for it and I thought it was really sweet. As long as you aren't reposting the person's artwork to advertise or decorate your work without permission, I feel like it's totally okay. But that's just me.

Though now that I think about it - if you feel like you've taken something the artist came up with themselves that isn't originally mentioned in Dragon Age, it probably would be a good idea to ask for permission just in case.

Many artists don't like to see their stuff reposted, even with links and credit, so it's always in good form to ask permission first, if only to avoid awkwardness. If they ask you to not repost the piece itself, you can still link to the art that inspired your story in your author's notes, so people will still have the reference.

That's for fanart, mostly. With a song, I suppose the artist (if we're talking about a youtube musician, or the like) would even prefer extra the exposure of an embedded video, to earn as many views as possible.

eta: unless I misunderstand your question, and what you're asking is if you need to ask permission to post your own story if it was inspired by something else? In that case, go ahead and post your stuff. Inspiration can come from anything, but the story is still yours.

Thanks for the response. It's actually the short drabble I wrote a few page back inspired by a song someone wrote on Tumblr (& someone else perform).

I use the exact lyrics as Mia sing it for kid!Cullen so I'll ask them first since this is their written words.

I also saw Slugette's work on Tumblr and looking at her other stuff on Deviantart - wow. She captures characters perfectly. She has more Cullen stuff.

Thank you, very well said.

Kind of glad I missed the age discussion, I don't need to feel my age today,

Lol, you would be older than Cullen by some years and Cullen would pretty much be anywhere from 10-15 years older than me. So I would be a baby compared to him with all these headcanons, lol!

Guys we can take this to PM if you'd like, but I was able to buy Origins on PC, it's downloading now.  Can you guys recommend some mods to start with? Looking on Nexus is a bit overwhelming.

lol! We won't say by how many years, but my daughters are considerably closer to his age at any estimate than I am.

And I have every intention of eventually romancing Cullen with an older woman, say early 40s, because I think he'd do well with an older woman. So I'd rather believe the "roughly 30" estimate that Brianne threw out can mean 33 or so, lol.

The Skip the Fade mod. It was one of the first mods my friends recommended to me when they heard I was getting Origins and they almost begged me to get it because of how needlessly long the Fade sequence apparently is during the Broken Circle quest, LOL. To this day I have no idea how bad it was, but I'll take their word for it.

Same here, Cullen's pretty much 10+ years older than me. A little weird. At least I'm legal. :P

And there's nothing wrong with being an older fan of Cullen! Cully has wonderful qualities that attract all, and it's lovely that he's brought so many of us together despite our differences in background. * v*

Just to quick add to this whole age thing, I think Cullen has to be mid 30s because he just seems too well seasoned in battle and as a commander to be anything less than 30 (30 is even stretching it imo). That puts him a lot older than me, but it fits.

At least you would be considered "mature" for him, I on the other hand....O_O

I think he would prefer an older woman rather than a younger woman, simply because he probably couldn't keep up with a younger woman in the regards of personality/outlook on life.

That's interesting thought. Do you think that he'll do well with a quizzy about 5-10 years younger than him, a quizzy that is shamelessly & gleefully extrovert & a tad childish? (read: someone like me bwahahahaha I'll scare him I guess  ). Good thing it's impossible to be very childish in game. I can imagine my little elf getting "we're replaying this chess game until I win!" bwahaha

The bad thing about this mod is that you'll skip all the Companion's nightmare... Which is pretty interesting to see which is each of them's greatest fears. I agree tho that the Fade in DA:O sucks...

Lol, all I know is if I ever dated someone who was that much older than myself, well, they would probably want to tie me up and hold me in place. Once I get going/get comfortable with someone...watch out. I can bounce off the walls, lol. I could totally see myself running about someone who was that much older than myself and leaving them in confusion, one moment I'm right in front of them and the next I am somehow up on a bookcase.

I would actually advise avoiding any game-altering mods on a first playthrough just so you can get a proper feel for it. A lot of people really do like playing through the Fade. ;) I'd just recommend cosmetic mods like DA Redesigned, Improved Atmosphere and Anto's Hairstyles.

Oh I've played Origins a couple of times already on console so no mods - sorry if that wasn't clear.  I want to do it up with mods now (finally) without breaking the game. I'm happy to skip the Fade and the Deep Roads, never need to see those again.

I actually got to see the nightmares because the mod dropped me off at a point right before we had to go rescue them from their nightmares. The mod just skipped the tedious bit up to that point, I think. The best of both worlds

I don't think that Cullen is nearly as intolerant of a bit of childishness as he seems like he might be at first glance - after all, he says and does his share of cutely childish things. Off the top of my head - threatening to do something back indignantly when he feels like Sera did something to his office, saying Lake Calenhad is shaped like a cute animal and using the word "bunny" to boot, "it's a *high pitched squeek*nice day", "(complaining voice) I'm not bait!", his trumpety snort at Bull's crude sexual joke, his appreciation for the ridiculous antics of the recruit in his story...he wants to come off serious all the time but it's just a front he puts up. He gets along well enough with Bull and I feel like Bull is an extrovert, so as long as your interests in bettering the world and making it safer for people align I don't see why he wouldn't be happy with being with someone who is extroverted and playful. He's strict enough with himself as it is, he'd benefit from someone who would actively invite him to unwind, like Varric. :P

Just some advice to those who like to dance and have long hair that flips around when dancing: Be aware of your surroundings. Lol if you aren't, well, your hair could somehow end up in a stranger's braces.

You actually don't miss them at all. You just skip right to them, and then go directly to the final boss. I recommend playing through at least once, but good grief I would never play the game again if not for that mod. If only I could skip the deep roads...

Teehee, cougars are awesome...I think all woman can get a little "cougarific" from time to time.

You'd be surprised - quite a few of us actually don't ship that pairing. Each to their own though!

Personally, I would recommend the Grey Warden armor from DA2 (especially since they used it again in DAI - keeps things consistent). I'd also recommend the body proportion fixes. They fix the "flat back" syndrome with light armor for females, and also make female dwarves not look like orangutans.

It would probably depend on childish in what way. There definitely can be advantages to either age gap, but a lot will depend on the person's life experience. Someone who's had a rough time and been through a lot may be very mature and ready to be supportive through any storm at 20, even if outward behavior is a bit like Sera's. Someone who's been sheltered or had very little responsibility could be pretty useless at 50 and hardly know how to cope with a paper cut. Age really is no indication of maturity either. I'm boringly responsible and not shaken by anything, but I'm not always sure how mature my behavior is. I suspect our Commander is pretty adaptable.

I hated the Fade sequence in DAO the first time, but (admittedly with walkthrough map) after that I kind of enjoyed it. I think it's worth doing once, and I always did it to get the extra attribute points.

I think Cullen would do much better with someone who has a lighter personality and is able to bring that side out of him. I'm not saying that older characters wouldn't be able to do that, but...I just realized I don't really know how to explain it. Hmm...

You're not a dirty old woman. You are a strong, independent, Tishina who bows to no trend!

I could easily picture him with someone a little younger. Age is just a number. But, in my opinion (remember, this is my IMO), I don't picture him being interested in someone that is completely childish. I'm at a loss for words trying to describe the specific personality I'm talking about, so let me give you an example. Picture trying to get your grocery shopping done and there's a gaggle of giggly girls running around the store. They're noisy. They say the word "like" every five seconds. They're now in front of you in line and oh look, the one paying gets a call on her cell. Instead of handling the transaction with the cashier, she takes the call, all while giggling merrily, and holds everybody up. All you can do is roll your eyes. It doesn't matter what age they are - they could be high school, they could be late 20's - I've seen all ages. Yeah I think he'd have a hard time with that type of personality, regardless of age. Then again, I don't think that type of person would make it as IQ.

Don't get me wrong, I can get plenty giggly and silly too. But there's a time and place for everything. I guess what I'm trying to get at is that I think he'd be fine with someone that can be both silly and lighthearted, but also serious as a heart attack when the time calls for it. Now, playing pranks with Sera and flinging some jokes to ease the mood? Sure thing - totally a prerequisite. Even all-business Rhiannon gets a little silly now and again.

*edit*

Tishina said it perfectly - it's all about life experience...
