I think Anora and Alistair can make a fantastic team. I don't know if they'll necessarily end up happy together, but they can at least work together well in the end.
Anora has the political smarts and Alistair has the bloodline, but both can be extremely charismatic.

I do think they end up happy together during the 10 years imo
Happy St Valentine's Day everyone! Here, a Cullen from me for all of ya!
(Very sorry for the bad drawing quality... I'm new to digital drawing & drawing in general). Still wish to contribute something for the fanart world tho... Bear with me ![]()
And somehow he looks like Alistair more than Cullen... ![]()

Special thanks to fontofnothing, Melissa GT & Teshayel.
Then again, some of us actually ship Alistair/Anora as a couple that starts off as merely political, and even slightly disdainful of each other, but eventually develops a relationship of mutual respect, trust and friendship over time -and who knows, even that different, more low-key kind of love that comes from comfortable familiarity rather than flaming passion- so their marriage doesn't have to be such a horrible prospect for either of them.
Even if one doesn't ship it, though, Alistair has that kind of personality that makes me think that, in a world where the Warden is not a factor -he's male, or she hasn't romanced Alistair, or they broke up, or she died- he would put deliberate effort into making his marriage to Anora at least not completely miserable for both of them. I don't see him giving up and becoming a bitter and resentful old grump who hates everything and just wants to sulk himself into an early grave like Maric (and therein lies the biggest difference between them, I think: Maric broke under the weight of his life, and Alistair refuses to). He may not like the first taste of it, but he would at the very least try to make do with the lemons life gave him - he and Anora need not love each other, but their joint cameo in DAI showed they can stand on equal footing and respect each other enough to make a good team.
I really appreciate your points and if I was not incredibly biased when it came to Alistair and anything that involves with him, then I would agree with you wholeheartedly. Lol, sadly my bias is not going to go away...sorry XD
It's not like I am going to try and change your opinion or anything like that, after all I'm not a complete ass. I say just give the romance a chance and see where it goes, if you go in with the mindset of everything is going to be dull/bland and isn't what I want; then you will certainly be disappointed as you expect. *shrugs* I'm not am optimist, but some level of hope is good for everyone.
Okay... I just don't understand why I'm the one consistently being told to give the romances a chance. Yes, I am unhappy about them, and I let it go. I mention it every now and then when it's part of the conversation. But come on, this is crazy. How about bugging the people who don't like Blackwall or Josephine for a change? (This is not to you specifically but basically to everyone who tells me, over and over and over again, unasked for and unwarranted, Why don't you give Dorian a chance?)
I don't think it's cool to suggest that I have a closed mindset... I mean I haven't even started up any kind of argument or disagreement here so I'm honestly clueless as to where this hostility is coming from lol
I mean there is a reason I haven't bought certain games... it's because I don't think I'll like them. There's a reason I haven't played a certain class or taken a certain story route... I don't want to. I don't enjoy it. Do you know how many people complain about Fenris or Kaidan or any of my own favorite romances? I've never once said to those folks, Why don't you try it and see? I accept that they are not interested in the character. Now if they speak up and say rude things about the character or the writers of that character, then I will interject. But there are a loooot of people out there who do not like Fenris, or who like him but simply have no interest in romancing him. Those people are not close-minded. They have tastes. They are human. It's a thing.
There are countless BSN members who are not even a part of this thread because they are not interested in Cullen. And we accept that. We do not fly around the BSN attempting to recruit Cullen fans lol They simply are not interested. It's not that they are going into the game with a certain mindset. They just... are not... interested.
I sort of look at it this way - if I'm disappointed in romance options in a game or with my companions, other characters, it's a lot like real life. You're not always gonna get what you want out of people, some might be assholes. You may like someone and they may not like you back. And yes yes, I know it's not reality, but I would rather the writers write a character how they want to without worrying about if he/she/it will appeal to everyone.
I'm also not sure where this is coming from because no one has said anything to the contrary. Some of us were saying we think Cullen should have been the non-gated option (instead of Bull) because he is more widely appealing.
I think those of us who are saying that say that with the belief that Cullen's gating is related to time and budget and not character.
If it were intricately tied to his character (like Dorian's interest in men or Sera's dislike of elves), then that would be different.
Honestly, I think it is really unfair how you guys jump all over me anytime this comes up. I think I've been pretty cool about the whole thing.
Plus anyone who ever comes after me about this issue is usually themselves satisfied with the romance situation. Just saying. It's really easy to "support the writers" when they gave you what you want.
Obviously the ability to enjoy the romance in the vanilla game is the bigger bummer, but if it really was just a cinematics issue and all the VO was recorded, then soon enough modders should have the exact same romance in there for guys, just with more clipping in the cutscenes.
Well last I heard someone was making a stab at creating a f/f romance for Cassandra. I always knew there'd be more interest for that than a m/m Cullen lol I think the only thing holding back the possibility now is a modder or group of modders who actually want to do it. I think it would be even simply to create a dwarf- and qunari-romancing Cullen mod... so long as the modder was okay with some rather insane clipping LOL
So I had a great day. Turned 32... But it was a good day thought id share that.
Happy birthday ![]()

I think, more importantly, Alistair actually cares about people. He's a good person. I think that's an important quality in a leader. It's why on my first, virgin playthrough of DAO I dumped Anora in a cell and made my buddy Alistair king lol He wasn't happy about it, but I knew he'd do his best for the people of Ferelden. My initial impression of Anora was that she was simply power-hungry. (She betrayed me on my first playthrough.)

I know you said that your post was not to me specifically, but I should had put more thought behind my words. You won't get anymore romance suggestions from me, so hopefully that lessens any hostility you're feeling.
Great, now I am thinking about us riding around on brooms and throwing Cullen pictures all over BSN... ![]()
Yeah, this is left over from when you were once going to be able to customize each captured keep to be dedicated to military, spying, or commerce/politics. Griffon Wing Keep had three different versions depending on which you picked. They scrapped it, and now Griffon Wing Keep only becomes the military version. Complete with lion...
Well that is depressing.
*********
When it comes to Cullen's sexual preference I am happy with the direction. DA2 annoyed me to no end with everyone being bi. DAI gives more realism in terms of what type of person they are interested in. No diffrent then those in real life who have preferences.
On a personal level I find it a bit strange, Cullen is interested in elves, but then again considering how Thedas views elves, I have no interest in playing one-ever. However Cullen choices fit his personality. I cannot see him romancing a male nor a female Qunari or even for that matter a female dwarf. To me that would be beyond awkward.
If Cullen was interested in males or any other race aside from human and elf, I would give up on Dragon Age altogether. Harsh? To some perhaps. But I think reflecting a character's personality and their sexual preference gos hand and hand.
Aside from that I wish Bioware gave us more of Cullen's backstory. I do not mind creating my character's bio. I however feel it is writers "job" to give the player/reader everything they can about the character. It is not my character or even anyone elses, its Bioware's character. Having me or anyone decide to fill the "holes" in Cullen's life as some sort of head-cannon is utterly ridiculous.
Oh sure nothing wrong with creating a story if someone so chooses, but they would not need too if the information was provided for us. I am the type of person who wants as much information about whatever it is. I don't like "maybes" or "half ass facts." Sometimes when you get these Dragon Age characters its like out of a Stephine Meyer novel.
Players should decide on their character not characters created by the writers. I so tried of all this morsel of information and then getting the answer "Well its up to the player." Well in that case why even bother creating characters to start with or hell for that matter even bothering creating this world. If your going to go half way and leave some up to the player, minus well go all the way and leave things up to the players entirely.
I just like to know when the hell DA became a D&D session. Do I have to roll a D20 to get Cullen into bed? <rolls eyes>.
Yep, I the fruit is going to be flying at me.

lol ... Honestly, after I took a shower, I felt like my post was needlessly hostile as well. The entire topic is just clearly a hot-button issue for me. I swear to you all, I really and truly am trying to enjoy the game now. I mean I started a FEMALE DWARF. I think that says it all. And I even start a male elf with the intention to romance Dorian. I try, I really do. And I'm still here, talking about and loving on Cullen with you guys ![]()
I just love Cullen, I LOVE HIM
and I'll never stop being disappointed by what happened. BUT I am not here to rain on the parade of those who get the distinct and well-deserved pleasure of romancing our dear sweet boy ![]()

Yeah, I know. I refuse to follow a blog that posts uncredited work. Even if that work is consistantly beautiful and features my favorite pairing prominently. I REFUSE.
And I don't reblog uncredit work, even with credit. What I do is find the original posting of that artwork (whether on pixiv, devart, whatever) and blog it myself with the proper credit.
(Crikey! Who's that cute elf on the left?!)
(EDIT: Could seriously be a stand-in for my own Lavellan!!!)

It might be Kivan from Baldur's gate.
I'm only reblogging to tell them to add a link to the artist's page (although I don't think anyone has ever edited their post to add links). I also warn the artist, if they are on tumblr, that someone has reposted their stuff.

When it comes to posting...I think I'm not able to express/articulate my thoughts/words in the way I would like to. It's something I have to work on, lol.
XD You inspired me to make a male elf and he is pretty adorable, freckles and all!

Oh I think you're right. I actually used an image of him as inspiration pre-DAI as I was planning my inquisitor! Then the hair options were revealed.

Mission accomplished ![]()
What complexion did you use? I tried to give Kael Lavellan freckles but I think I failed. I wanted Harding-level freckles, damn it. ![]()
Speaking of Fenris... someone tired to make him in DAI CC and I think they did a pretty good job!

I always wondered what he would've looked like if they'd included him along with Hawke's cameo. Ditto for the other LIs.
IIRC someone tried to make Merrill, & did a very good job. I'll try to find the pic ![]()
