What version of Photoshop should I get for a 64 bit Windows 7 machine? I just need it for basic stuff. I am confused by their website and they are trying to push the cloud version.

If you aren't doing hardcore 3D editing, Photoshop Elements is all you need. You can get it on Amazon ($69) for way cheaper than Adobe's website.

If you need an idea of what it can do, it's all I need for my photography, from RAW file to post-processing. I used to use full Photoshop back in the day but can no longer afford it and it's just overkill for most users.

Save your money - get Elements.  :)

P.S. - there's also this totally legit add-on you can get for Elements called Elements+. It only costs $12 and unlocks pretty much all the "locked" features of full Photoshop.

Say, if I want to do digital drawings, is Photoshop Element sufficient? My Mom got CS5 for her photography editing but we never got any Element so I don't know what it can do...

That I don't know. I would do some research on that.

I used to use CS2, and Elements (with Elements+) can do everything I used to need from CS2 for my photography and then some. But, I don't do digital drawing with a wacom or anything. I use it for RAW file conversion and varying degrees of post processing and sharpening for web/print. It does have full layer functionality - something which is essential.

*edit*

I did a quick google search on digital painting and wacom tablets and it looks like you can use Elements. I'd just hate to see someone spend that kind of $$$ when it's not needed. I've always been against the absurd prices that Adobe charges for their stuff.

You could also look into GIMP - which is FREE. I personally don't care for it, but my b/f uses it and loves it. I've tried to offer to buy him Elements and he'd rather use GIMP. He's just getting into photo-manipulation.

Thanks Mel!

But well, for now on I'll just use FireAlpaca and SAI :D

Mom's talking about sharing her CS5 to me however, since apparently we can install it to 2 computers but only 1 can be used at a time. Since she lives in a continent that has 6 hours of time zone different from me we're not using it at the same time so it's OK. I just think about getting another alternative so she can install both her licences on her PC + travelling Laptop

I personally don't really see Cullen and Cassandra working as a couple, and I'm not saying that because I prefer him to be with my PC. (My "canon" Warden went with Alistair and my "canon" Quizzy went with Solas.) It's true they are similar in that they are disciplined, dutiful, devout holy warriors who serve the principles on which the Chantry was founded rather than the institution itself... but that's the problem. They are too similar. One of my favorite quotes from Boy Meets World, "Yes, we are exactly alike, and that's the problem. I'm with myself all the time. I don't want to date me."

Now, I know they're not exactly the same. Cassandra and Cullen differ in other ways too. She's very brash, blunt, harsh, and direct. Cullen is much more mellow and mild. Ideally I would say their differences would complement each other, but I actually think these would clash romantically.

Romance-wise, Cassandra is all about the ideal. She wants an ideal storybook romance filled with passion, poetry, grand gestures, and getting swept off her feet. While Cullen is strong, solid, protective, and can act as a knight in shining armor too, emotionally he's much more fragile and vulnerable. Bless his heart, when he likes a girl, he becomes much more shy and insecure. He stuttered horribly around the Warden, and becomes more embarrassed and awkward around the Quizzy. While he also makes gestures to show he cares (takes her to a beautiful lake, tells her of his childhood, and gives her a lucky pendant he's had forever), it's not quite the bold gestures Cassandra needs, and one gets the feeling he needs the girl to respond gently to keep him from feeling hurt or embarrassed.

In his own way, Cullen needs to be nurtured and helped along in romance. Meanwhile, Cassandra also needs to be nurtured and helped along in her own way, but she acts harshly to hide her vulnerability. So, I feel Cullen would be hurt or scared off if Cassandra rebuked his initial advances as she does to the Quizzy and Iron Bull, and Cassandra would be hurt or turned off that Cullen didn't try harder to move passed her tough exterior to get to her gentle side the way a male Quizzy potentially can.

Bottom line: I feel Cassandra needs a man who is more bold romantically, and Cullen needs someone who is more gentle emotionally. While I can see Cassandra and Cullen being good friends and allies, I just don't feel the other is what they're looking for romantically. They're too similar in terms of non-romantic personality (being disciplined holy warriors), and too different in terms of emotional needs and romantic tastes.

That all.

Looks like this needs a reposting. :)

Page 5000 Update

Page 5000 is approaching. We probably have less than 2 weeks  ONE WEEK, unless folks start to slow down. Consider: judicious use of multiquote, stay on topic, and Like.

** Be sure to let me know if you think you will participate. Especially if you're not sure if you'll be around.

** If anyone needs an AO3 invite, I have more. PM me. Don't forget we have an AO3 Collection for the celebrations.

THE THEME
The theme that has emerged is "Thanks for the memories!"  What does this mean? Whatever you want it to, so long as it's Culleny. Get inspired by memories, nostalgia, thanks for game, thoughts on the end of the game, thoughts on what happens after the game, favorite memory from the game, favorite memory from being a Cullen fan, looking back, looking forward, whatever.

Also, it doesn't have to follow the theme. That's just for inspiration, for those who want some. It just has to be Culleny.

WHAT TO CONTRIBUTE
Describe your fave memory from in game, or post a screenshot of it. Write a poem inspired by memories. Make a drink recipe that induces a black out of memories. Art, photomanip, fanfic, screenshot, text, banter, dialogue, drink recipe, limerick, fic, whatever. Go for it. All is good, so long as it's Culleny. Ask if you need suggestions for places to post fic or art, etc. For fic longer than ~500 words, post elsewhere and post a link here.

THE GROUND RULES

1. No jibber jab on Page 5000 itself. Only celebration posts. Wait til page 5001 to chat.

2. Take only one post for yourself. If you have multiple things, post them all in one post. There are only 25 slots a page.

3. When we get to the page, stop posting, reload to ensure you know the page you're on, wait for the go ahead.

4. If you won't be here, let me know, and I will have a placeholder for you.

5. NSFW stuff: This is OK, but only in a link to elsewhere and if tagged as such so that folks can choose whether to see it or not. Posting inside spoiler tags is not enough.

Let me know if you have questions on whatever.

I've gotten past Ferelden's circle, and when I saw him and what happened, it kinda broke my heart. Yet, at the same time, I didn't like the character he was in that game. It was weird. I guess being new and going back and playing the old games gives you a different perspective. Made me like the overall character far more though, seeing how drastically different he is in DA:I, and now I'm hoping to squeeze in finishing DA:O and starting DAII before uni starts back up!

What kind of character is your warden? A circle mage (particularly a female one) may have a different opinion. Although I agree he is much harsher in DAO. Most of that is because he's young in DAO so he probably hasn't experienced very many (if any) traumatic experiences up until that point. And if that happened to me, I probably would've acted the same way. I won't spoil anything, but through other events, especially those of DA2, he learns that not all mages are the same, and I would say that he even regrets the way he acted in DAO.

I'm sure I read something about people feeling that Alistair wasn't the same since his Queen had disappeared (either distracted or concerned)... but maybe my memory is really bad and I imagined it

Yeah, I can confirm that. Whenever I got his cameo in Redcliffe he certainly seemed more detached and then when I started doing the operations for him, I noticed that he also seemed a bit distracted. I wrote it off as kingly concerns/stress and that his love is constantly going back and forth between his side and trying to save their lives. I really wish that we could had forwarded The Warden's letter onto Alistair, I mean could you imagine how happy he would had been to recieive a letter from the love of his life? I'm sure they keep in touch...but yeah.

After reading your reply, I headed on over to take a look for myself. I was wondering why Alistair did not have a card in game-I assume it is bugged?

IF I recall, my Rogue Warden married Alistair and it was mentioned in her card. However with my Mage Warden there is no mention of her being with Alistair.

This is weird. I doubt the developers would move in the direction as these two never were together. I think the fans would be, well, rather peeved. But you never know, they have done odd moves before-such as with Lilly.

It would interesting for someone to tweet one of the Devs and find out if it is indeed bugged.

Yes, it was mentioned that the Warden did marry Alistair before she disappeared. However, I've yet to import a worldstate where The Warden is Alistair's mistress. It really seems that in the terms of romance that his mistress and queen versions of The Warden were shafted.

I've been feeling as if Bioware has been trying to push LIs and the PCs away from another since DA2. And they are really going to have to do something drastic to end the marriage between Alistair and The Warden. That seems like it would be the hardest relationship for them to break off, in the terms of logic.

I hear you. My mage Warden became his mistress, too. A part of me was a bit disappointed that king Alistair doesn't mention her but the bigger part was actually relieved. After all, Alistair barely knows the Inquisitor and I appreciate his discretion. As for the tarot cards, does BioWare have an image of a canon Warden that they have used in the past (like Shepard or Hawke)? I believe they only used pictures of defined characters for the tarot cards, so I wouldn't read too much into this.

I just wish that you could had done a quest or two with King Alistair and that would open him up enough for you to at least touch base on The Warden. They have an image of a defined warden and it was male warden who left Alistair king, romanced Morrigan and did other things that I frankly don't care to remember. Thank you for the comfort though!

Maybe it's just cut. Well I hope at least. Because if they are creating a plot where they get separated and can't never be together I just can't bear it.

Spoiler

I remember that it came up  in the game. But i really can't remember where.

I've said it before and I will say it again: I despise it whenever writers try to keep LIs and the PCs away from one another. I can understand it for my time, but my understanding is really starting to wear thin with the fact that Hawke is also separated from their LI. If we find out the IQ is going to somehow get seperated from their Li, I am going to flip some tables.

Well, given that there is a span of about 40-100 hours between romance point 2 & 3, yes, I think most players in the Universe who are mid Solasmance are at the same point. :P LOL And, no, no, I'm not bitter that there's so little interaction. Or that I'm racing to be broken up with. :D

snip

I highly suggest saving before doing that scene so you can test out all the different options and see which one appeals to you the most/kills you the most. For me that was one of the most traumatic scenes in Bioware history, in the terms of breakups. The facial expressions and the voice acting...Alix killed it in that scene.

You have really good points but relationships have blossomed under more dire and constrained circumstances in fiction before, it's not out of the realm of possibility that there could have been a moment in a tent or two between Cass and Cullen if the attraction was there.

Agree, I almost see it being more likely under dire circumstances, given how similar some of their particular stresses are in the last year. I could see value in finding comfort in someone who understands. While they don't jump out at me as "destined" or anything, I could see it happening. Relationships are more about timing half the time than anything else, anyway. :)

RIP Galyan, tho. I really loved him in DotS. And love Galyxan x Cass. :(

I already do this *too* much, to the point where it completely lessens the emotional impact of any given scene by the time I choose one. The bane of the metagamer. I'm def looking forward to Arbor Wilds with Solas, tho. I loved doing Exalted Plains with him, so I'm hoping (probably against hope) that there are a few extras for the romance. Or that I've sufficiently forgotten my last playthrough that anything Solas says will *feel* like the romance regardless. :D :grabby hands:

I'm playing a Dalish warrior romancing Alistair. So Ferelden's circle was my first introduction to Cullen in DA:O. I understand why he acts the way he does - it's a horrible thing to happen - I get why he's like that, and how that changes him, but yeah I was a bit shocked as that was my first meeting with him. I might replay as an Amell to see that other aspect of him, time allowing. And seeing as I've started 2nd PT of DA:I I'm appreciating everything he's saying more.

I agree, especially with this last part. From my point of view they need different things romance-wise but I can totally see them as good friends and companions.

So has anybody heard the full banter with Commander Helaine and Cullen? I caught only a snippet of it. He told her he would feel better about it if he knew something about her background. I can only assume he was talking about my romanced quizzing taking Knight Enchanter as a specialization.

*grasps chin in a thoughtful manner* I can't really recall if there are any extras for the romance during that quest. I know that Solas was meant to yell for a romanced IQ if she drank from The Well. I do remember that there is a scene with cinematics and all with romance extras after that quest. However, this scenes leads into the breakup if I recall correctly.

The lack of content is annoying but the scenes that we do get, I find to be quite emotional and overall great. Maybe they will add a few scenes or more dialogue in the future with a patch or something, but I would much rather have a patch that fixes the crap the last patch messed up. Yes, I am still bitter, lol.

As someone else points out, the dynamic is different a bit with a female mage warden, but he's a character who develops a lot over the 12 (?) years the three games cover. Some of the things he says in DAI make a lot more sense once you have a feel for the ground he's already traveled over time. I started hanging out in here before DAI came out because I was fascinated by how much he seemed to have developed over time; that I ended up liking his romance so much was a bonus as far as I was concerned.

I personally don't really see Cullen and Cassandra working as a couple (....)

lol you guys, I can appreciate that not everyone will ship Cullen and Cass, but honestly, I don't care. I continue to ship them, no matter how many reasons you come up with for why they don't work together. Like gin mentioned, shipping is very personal, and we should respect each other's ships.

Unless you want me to start laying down paragraphs of all my reasons why I think Cullen/mage is a terrible match too, or whatnot, so everyone can get nice and upset about everyone else's tastes, I suggest we just leave each of us to their own shipping preferences and respect that people will ship different things, and if we don't like it we can just... ignore it.
