NOPE! My Warden kept her romanced Alistair with the Grey Wardens, and I'm not changing it for anything. Come what may, that's the decision my character made with the information she had at the time.

 

But um... let me get this straight:

You want to change your entire canon worldstate because you didn't get a few spoken lines in the game acknowledging your choice? 

 

What if, in the next game, it turns out that Alistair-mancers who made Alistiar King get more spoken lines acknowledging their choice whereas those who kept him with the Wardens got none? Would you change your entire canon worldstate back again just on account of that handful of lines? It seems a little... reactionary to me. Why not just be happy with the choice you made regardless of whether the voice actors mention it out loud or not? Just because the characters don't mention it doesn't mean it didn't happen, or that it won't be acknowledged in future games.

I actually was one of the people who changed my canon world state, but it was not just because of the extra lines.

 

My original canon was Alistair as King and romanced Warden sacrifice.  I played many others, but that was my canon (and actually, my first ever playthrough). I felt like he broke her heart and she just wanted to die (Iove the angst). I also hated Anora, so boom, Alistair had to be king and I had to die. And in DA2, he was a good king, trying to be a good man, so I was happy with that.

 

But, in DAI, alot of things changed my mind. The big thing was a potential happy ending for them. If sacrificed, my warden was not out looking for a cure.  If I made he the Queen, she was, but then I got to thinking...once she found it, she and Alistair would rule Ferelden together...and it is not something either of them really wanted (my gal was a free spirit and Alistair was unhardened). But if they are Wardens together, and if she is successful in finding the cure, then BAM...they can stop being wardens and go off adventuring together and grow old together and be happy.  Plus, I get to kill Hawke if Alistair is a Warden, which was a bonus (I disliked Hawke...just a personal thing).

 

So I did change my canon. And feel perfectly happy with my decision.  And I enjoy the story of all three games together having done so.

 

Now, if this leads to Alistair dying in some horrific way in a later game, then I will damned well change it back. Cause I love that boy...his character made me love RPGS and motivated me to start writing  again after like 10 years and all kinds of other stuff.  I don't consider it cheating or reactionary or anything like that.  I played DAO fifty times.  Changing my canon does not bother me because...I chose it out of so many playthroughs anyways.  I pick the one that gives me the ending and overall story I want. And that is the point, no?

The keep was a gamesaver for me. I have never been able to let anything bad happen to any of my DAO or 2 companions, we're all besties. Keep let me be evil and I got to hear Leliana's bitterness about being stabbed (ouch) and destroy redcliff (which didn't matter a damn), but when it comes to multiple benign choices, I'll always actually play it (templars vs mages, .etc) just to see everything these developers created. My head canon is better that way too, because I can pick and choose my quizzy's experiences with a more educated knowledge of all the options. I'm having my 2nd pt quizzy drink from the well, but applying the experience to my first quizzy who I like the best for writing but I need to know what it's about!

Oh wait... this is a video game?? yeah of course players should totally be able to change the course of their companions lives. Bulls becoming tal vashoth and cole becoming human or not are the only two other fate changing choices I can think of besides cullen. But I'm juss sayin', if we play pretend, Cullen having the inquisitor caring one way or the other would probably make him realize he needs to get his sh*t together and he's actually pretty important to the cause. I just played Perseverance as a dude so I'm trying to see it from an unromantic perspective I guess...


Whaaa? Skipping out on sexxy time?! You're only hurtin' yourself!! Cullen will just marry his work again, but you'll be missin' out!

 

Sorry for misreading your first post. I like playing through Perseverance as a male IQ. Cullen opens himself up to you and you do that gentle arm-slapping thing we guys like to do. This is the emergence of a bro relationship LOL. I can totally see the appeal of seeing it from this perspective.

 

I won't invest much on this char and most likely speedrun it on casual. We'll see.

Maybe I should explain. In my case I really only have one warden (and a dozen that never got past the early part of the game). One that I got so attached to, I had 3 playthroughs of her. The only difference between them was what she decided was best for Alistair.  First time I played didn't trust the DR and ended up dying. When I found out what happened if I chose differently I couldn't for the life of me, even by the time DA2 came out, decide which one was the better ending for her and Al. I say the US warden is my "canon" only because it was what I chose playing the game for the first time without any meta knowledge, what I would most likely have done in her shoes. Despite this I still thought the other two outcomes would have made sense for her as well and for the longest time was conflicted. But It wasn't until DAI came out that the content for each choice became really uneven, enough so that I began to reconsider. That's what I meant. That said US is still my canon choice, I'm also just expressing disappointment that

choosing to have Alistair sacrifice himself didn't result in a line about the HoF simply because of how fitting it would have been. Felt like a wasted opportunity to me

Yes, there are particular rules for length, timing, and it has to be "new." You can read about it at their tumblr. (ETA: This time around it's at least 10,000 words, no more than 2000 of which can have been published already)

Thanks for the info! I'm not participating this year but I really hope to participate next year (but not as writer ). Actually how they do the pairing? It's random? I wonder how if they don't have enough writer or if they don't have enough fanartist.

I'd be tempted to try one of the other ideas I have swirling around, but I can't commit to something that long at the moment, sigh. It'll be fun to read the entries, though.

I've been strongly considering changing my canon world state and it's all because I somehow missed making Sebastian my Hawke's LI, in addition to having to choose between Loghain and Hawke.

 

Without Sebastian, my Hawke is alone in the world and it's just too easy for me to look at her and say that she's done everything and more that's been asked of her, and also know that I'll need Loghain to help rebuild the Wardens, even if he has to do it from the Anderfels. And if I'm going to send Loghain to his death, I'd rather do it with him fighting the Archdemon than in the Fade. The only thing about doing that is that there's no DR and my Warden is female so no baby for Morrigan. It'll be interesting to see how that all plays out though, at the very least.

 

I'll have to make sure my Keep is set up that way on my next playthrough so that, if nothing else, I can see how it works out, and how it feels to save Hawke and let her go back to Sebastian, if that's what actually happens. Because Sebastian. (Also I can stop feeling guilty about making Varric so sad.)

I saw the outcome on Youtube. It was VERY sad. Then I recall Cullen took your Iquisitor on a "date" to his favorite private spot as a child and gave away something of great meaning to him to your character. After that thought it made watching the scenes breaking-up with Cullen just down-right depressing.

My mind was thinking I could handle it while my heart was trying to run away before the heartbreak shattered it...so yeah...

 

Actually I never take his coin. I always choose the option of where my IQ says she doesn't need luck...it's flirty and Cullen gets pretty flirty right back. I feel like my IQs would never take the coin for they would want him to always have luck on his side, besides they would want to give something to him in return; like a family pendant.

She looks like a "you know what?" I don't see that. I think she's absolutely gorgeous. What makes someone look like a "you know what?"

 

As far as the dialogue, the 1st wheel only has the three options, and I didn't think the top two suited her at all. "Wishing you were somewhere else?" Nope. "Tired?" Nope. That left the third option. 

 

As to her personality, I think it's open for personal interpretation. I don't see her as nasty at all. She means business - is all about duty and sacrifice for the greater good. However, she does show a softer side, particularly when she's around Cullen. She can let herself slip a little bit. I think you can see that in my other vids. You will also see it in the Wicked Hearts vid I post up. She's all professional til the final scene with Cullen when she can finally reflect on what she had to do based on what she thought was right. 

 

I can't help being a tad bit defensive of her. 

 

Just wanted to throw in an awesome portrait I got of Morrigan tonight - I can't help but share it:

I think Rhiannon is gorgeous and looks like a total bad**s, which is presumably a good thing in an Inquisitor (you should know me well enough to know that's a big compliment from me .) She also comes across to me as someone really strong that Cullen could rely on and trust no matter what (he strikes me as a "partner" kind of person myself.) I agree about the dialogue wheel not having very good choices sometimes for some personalities; it's actually one of the roadblocks for me in creating the human warrior I'd originally thought about.

 

Oooo, thank you for the Morrigan picture, that's a great one! She's one of my favorite NPCs, and I keep wanting to rush into WE/WH to see her...

Ok guys, here are the scenes regarding Rhiannon's choice of choosing Gaspard during Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts. The end scene dancing with Cullen is included and I think it shows really nicely how she's all about business but lets herself relax a bit when she's around him. They really are each other's counterpoint.
