It's been very quiet in this thread today. Hope everyones' 5k celebration preparations are going well.

 

I just started my next Cully painting and it doesn't look like him yet because I'm laying down values, but I was inspired by the concept of "tame the lion" so this one is going to feature really big hairstuffs~ I am very excited.

Also, I did some looking around Skyhold today. Found out Cullen has a Halla Statue on his bookcase and The Inquisitor has one their fireplace mantle. As far as I saw, no one else does.

 

Just found it interesting. Too bad we cannot use these to open more doors.

lol The vitriol against me is sometimes shocking, but at least there are still friendly people here I mean really, I get harassed for not being happy with my lot and finally I am romancing Dorian, only without a sharpie-drawn-mustache, and it's like I've committed some sick atrocity

I like the way Dorian looks both ways! His mustache gives him character, but I also like seeing him without it because I feel like I'm seeing more of him. I like knowing what someone looks like under their facefuzz even if I also like their facefuzz... I don't know if that makes sense. Maybe it's instinctual because I tend to draw a person without facial hair before adding it on, just so I can map out the musculature. .-.

Cosplaying is one of those hobbies that I could never take up myself - just too lazy and impatient - but I love seeing others do it and have mad respect.

And thanks so much ;-; There are inconsistencies with the way his face is lighted and his facial features aren't positioned accurately yet, so hopefully I'll be able to smooth everything out before I try to color it. Glad you think it looks good, though!

 

And yeah, I'm not so into cosplay either (would rather draw myself dressing up than actually do the dressing up because yeah, lazy irl ) but it sure is amazing seeing how much effort goes into other peoples' costumes.

Aw man I am nowhere near worthy of being put on the same level as Kels, but thank you for the encouraging words ;v; Her grasp of lighting and colors is just phenomenal. sigh

 

And yeah, I'd really like to add a lot more detail to his hair and 'mane' and make his face look as much like him as possible, so I still have a ways to go haha xD Hope I don't mess up rendering in the middle like in my last painting where my end result looked worse than the actual WIP version, LOL.

And hopefully his quest will fire for me this go-round Even if my first inquisitor didn't get on with him, I still feel jilted for not getting to experience his quest. I mean *I* like him even if my inquisitor didn't. And Kael definitely likes him Though it has been hard avoiding Cass-flirts lol Oh, and I was wandering around Skyhold (just got there) and found myself behind the inn and realized, aww, this is where Bull and I used to make out... shocking myself with nostalgia for the Bull-mance

 

But to keep this Cullen-related... I was noticing, marathoning the game as I have been on my day off, just how much more contact you get with Cullen (not just the advisors but him specifically), and this is mostly during In Your Heart Shall Burn. I really think, as fans of Cullen, we lucked out. Our favorite character got some of the most scenes in the game, and they are some kick arse scenes, too. I love how he just takes charge of the situation... our dear boy has grown! *wipes tear* I mean at Kirkwall he was such a subordinate (as he should be! It was his place) and it was always Knight-Commander this and Knight-Commander that, until he finally stood up to her (which is not say he never showed initiate, ahem, Wilmod). Now he immediately sees the threat and goes into action. Even when hope seems lost, he says that at least they get to fight before they die. He never loses himself. He stays strong. It's very impressive. (And not in an unbelievable "I'm so perfect" Marty Stu way. This character has suffered and grown to get here.)

Yeah I've seen the Blackwall-sans-beard mod and it's definitely not for me, BUT it is interesting to see the contours of his jaw line!

He's the khajiit in Winterhold as well as the mage you can hire at the Bee and Barb (is that the right name? The inn in Riften?) Also it is fatally hard to type right now as my fingers are frozen from standing outside for an hour and watching the parade.

I think you are underestimating your skills. What I really like about your drawings is the looseness. The lines flow naturally, and your characters look relaxed. I wish I could get that right. My characters always look a little stiff. I guess I need to attend life drawing classes again

Hear, hear! We definitely got lucky. Esp for someone whose LI arc was added so late. I'd like to think, cosmically, it's our reward for good behavior.

@Seph: Tesh is right, you are underestimating your skills IMO. I can't say what I really like about your drawings except that it's amazing, that's all.

Nah, just make sure that you keep some convo left with Dorian for after arriving at SKyhold. You can get Dorian bug if you've exhausted everything before skyhold.

I spoke about this-briefly in pages past, today I some how remembered it.

 

During The "siege" on Samson's Stronghold, your character finds a letter Samson left for Cullen.

 

I have recorded the encounter:

 

 

 

 

The reason I have done so is because I know Cullen's response to the letter changes. The dialogue he says in my video is do to Cullen NOT being on lyrium and after smexy time.

 

Thus I thought if those willing and have the ability to record could share "their" Cullen responses. For "science" of course.

 

I am rather curious how many different responses there are and what they are.

Thanks for the insightful comments, I hadn't really thought of my art in that way before! From what I've seen of your portraits so far they're lovely and full of intrigue - they don't strike me as stiff at all. I suppose the curse of the artist is to never truly be satisfied with what we create, haha xD I look at my paintings and all I see are the spots I had a hard time with because I didn't know how to draw/color something properly. I definitely need more practice as well. Shadows confuse me. >_>

XD For me it is just a shock, but to each their own. I think I find his lips to look like snakeskin without the stache but then again I find his lips odd with the stache. The same for his nose but they are more unique then ugly. Lol, his stache is very fake looking imo and I actually don't prefer all that much facial hair in RL so eh. I think I would like the mod better if they kept the little facial hair below his lip.

You're too kind And you are absolutely right - we can never be satisfied with our work. I finished Cullen's portrait for the 5k celebration yesterday, and am still struggling against the desire to make more adjustments

 

As for shadows, there are some general rules I follow: if the light source is warm, shadows will be cold, and vice-versa. Saturated colours will produce a more dramatic effect when used in shadows. And for my personal shortcoming: it probably needs to be even darker I have a hard time reaching the darker tones. Thank heavens for John Knoll thinking of including Multiply as a layer effect in PS

It's okay, I don't mind testing this stuff just for the sake of testing. And since this is my last attempt to finish a playthrough going mage-side lest I just give up entirely, 'tis also my last chance to test everything I can on this side in one run.

 

Anyway, this character keeps a neutral professional distance from Cullen as it is, so it's easy to roleplay her keeping him on lyrium as a detached, professional compromise. It sounds like an interesting thing to test, in any case, whether Cullen responds to the Samson quest differently at all if he's still on lyrium too. He should at least skip that dreadful "he had choices" line... hopefully. We shall see if it changes his reaction to Samson's letters too.

 

eta: ah, ninja'd by Mel. Well, I shall test the on lyrium + not romanced version, anyway. For science!
