I've gone both ways; you don't get the same introduction to him at the war table, but that's all that changes. I like the other way a little better because I like saving Leliana's people.
I always take the direct path on playthroughs where I'm romancing Cullen, because the sorta hostile interaction between him and the IQ there is such a good lead-in to the romance. They start off glaring daggers and dripping sarcasm at each other, and end up happily ever after. That loooong look the IQ gives Cullen as he runs off with his soldiers feels like such a "meant to be" moment.
On other playthroughs when I'm romancing anyone else but Cullen I'll usually take the mountain path, because his alternate, more professional introduction at the war table feels more appropriate for a business-only relationship with the IQ.

Lol, hey! The hair options are not nearly as dreadful if you work the face around the style...although I think we would had been better off with all of DA2s hairstyles.
Spoiler
Zarro, you're blonde human quizzy from that angle reminds me a lot of my human quizzy lol

I saw my romance better from the other way around, but there isn't a rivalmance feel to that one for me. She's pretty laid back and confident in general, but would definitely be the type to want to go after the people on the mountain path. Her only slightly aggressive/hostile moment was asking if he was serious (under the Dalish special dialogue). I also kind of like the introduction in the war room for a romance. My IQ who went the direct route is a bit more ruthless and inclined to let people stand or fall on their own.

Sooo...I just realized something.
You know how at the beginning of the game, when you are at the temple of sacred ashes and you are getting glimpses of the fade and what happened with the Divine Justinia? And you hear your quizzie's voice and she says "what's going on here?". I know most of you noticed that she say it in a calm voice and then later, when you actually get your memory back, she uses a completely different tone of voice for the same line?
Ok, I also noticed that the first calm usage is exactly the same as she says it again at another time in the game, I think talking to Varric or something (e.g., it is the same audio file). I suspected that they screwed up and put the wrong audio file in the Temple sequence. So, they chose file#1 "what's going on here" (calm version) when they were supposed to chose file#2 'what's going on here." (stressed version). But then, many folks thought that they did it on purpose to kinda make it less clear what was really happening...ie, to draw out the suspense of what really went down at the temple. I agreed that was equally as likley and forgot about it.
I just started playing through with the American male voice and lo and behold, he asks 'Whats going on here?" in an angry, stressed voice. So now I wonder...perhaps I was right the first time and they really did screw up the audio file to use for the other voices. Thoughts? Anyone know for sure?
I hope this makes sense... ![]()

It's okay if you're not writting for 5k, R2. Your compilation forum in AO3 is going to keep me busy til then. I have to catch up on yours and everyone's fantastic writing. And two pages of Cullenness sounds awesome, timebean!
Okay on to some cullen smut reading. If anyone has recommendations for tasteful work, please PM meee!
LOL, Oh, I already wrote something for page 5000. Three new somethings, actually.
But I have some other things in the queue now as well.
One of my fave Cullen stories (possibly tasteful smut, but who knows how to define it) is Through These Pages by Defira1985. It's def NSFW.
Out of likes for now...
And did you guys know that if you choose the direct path instead of the mountain path that you get to meet Cullen?!?!?!

I chose it for the first time just now, and as we were fighting, I thought, "Don't I recognize that brown fur cloak...? OH MY GOD IT'S CULLEN!!!!" Then Cass introduces us and I whisper creepy things under my breath, like "Just you wait, my pretty..." as my heart is beating a mile a minute.
Luckily, Lola told me to go that way first.
wooo hoooo! And, I'm still laughing that my IQ was checking out his butt from day 1.

I could see that happening. Honestly, makes more sense than "let's frak with the player and make her tone of voice different between the two flashbacks..."

Well, my non-romanced inquisitor gets the same reaction from him, but since I know (from experiment) if I broke up with Solas before the second kiss, all it takes to start a romance with Cullen at that point is to walk in and say "can we talk alone?" that may not be the best thing to judge by, lol. Has anyone played a male IQ through that scene and gotten the "you haven't even looked at your cards" as a reaction?
I loved how he seemed to be enjoying himself too.
Oh yeah, it was just my personal interpretation of the scene in the context of a relationship. He probably says the same thing to a male Inquisitor. Either way, it's a strangely specific thing to pay attention to in a group full of vibrant personalities saying funny stuff so I thought a good reason for it would be that he was paying extra attention to the Quizzy for ...reasons. ![]()

Ooo thanks! Look forward to reading it!! Yes tasteful may have been a poor descriptor...something that has a little build up, emotions, a little story before the juicy bits...like varric's opinion of how the war table would be put to better useLOL, Oh, I already wrote something for page 5000. Three new somethings, actually.

Is there any chance that story is posted somewhere besides DeviantArt? I don't have an account, and don't really want to have to sign up to yet another site, lol...
And has anyone had trouble with FF3? I can't get it to accept a copy and pasted chapter into Doc Manager suddenly (I get a message to "please select a file" when I try to submit it, and I'm not doing anything differently.)

I love that your first impression of Cullen is him saving a soldier if you choose this path. I said this many pages ago, but after I explained my obsession over Cullen to the husband, he watched me playing this scene and he says "Aw, and he's nice to his men, too."

Are we trying to speed this up or no? Cuz I'm double posting. Yeah, I agree, even though a lot of his lines are exactly the same romance or no romance, male or female, it's nice that they were done an animated in a way that you could interpret it differently.

Hello, Cullen fans! I've romanced Cullen twice now with human mages and going a third time with a human rogue. I can't resist him, though I had a rough time with my female Qunari. (I romanced Iron Bull in that playthrough, but it hurt not being able to run to Cullen. XD )

What's a celebration without Karaoke? (I know, I know.) Anyway, I'm not too sure how this works, but for our 5000th page, I'd like to reserve a spot for my Karaoke video for you all to sing along to. It's the first video I've ever made, so please bear with me.

Your post has uncanny timing. Or maybe I do. Or both.
After months of planning it, I just started my Cullen romance playthrough right now. ![]()
I feel like my "canon" Lavellan who romanced Solas would have eventually fallen for Cullen had she not already fallen for and committed to another. Since I love to make life difficult for myself, I started a new playthrough with the exact same Inquisitor only with my Surana worldstate, to make the most of Cullen's infatuation with a Mage Elf Warden, his character growth over the years, and his eventual "happy ending" with another mage elf.
Quick question though: Before the game's release, someone mentioned that in the game a guard calls one of the elves in the Inquisition a "knife-ear" and Cullen chewed him out. Does that ever happen in the game? If so, how do I encounter it?
