Some people have hair that is just black black BLACK though. It is always black, no matter what hits it. Plus some blacks are warm tones (hence yours seeming brown/red at times) and some are cool tone; cool tone would never ever look red.

Yeah, the only time I was able to have hair that was always black black black was when I used chemical dyes. Then it started to fall out so I had to stop using them. 

 

Now I just dye it every 4 months or so with a mixture of henna and indigo and it's nice and thick again. Now I'm getting a stubborn dye-resistant strip of silver right above my right temple (we're talking Stacy London or bride of Dracula strip) . I haven't decided if I love it or hate it. My b/f likes it and my mom says it makes me look older so I have no idea.

Have you tried vegetable dyes, like Manic Panic? They don't last very long (maybe a week) but it's something. My hair doesn't seem to mind bleaching and dying; it's currently purple (Pravana purple + some Special Effects Wildflower) and holding up pretty well. 

 

My white hair soaks up dye. Sorry yours is being a pain!!

Yes, vegetable dyes turned my test strip green. Thank goodness I tested first, otherwise I would have ended up being a swamp monster. I read that happens to a lot of folks using the black dyes. 

 

Henna/indigo works really well for me, is very healthy, and is 100% natural. It's just that one strip that is dye resistant. It will dye ok at first, but that one strip will fade within a couple weeks, where the rest of my head is good for several months. I haven't figured out how that's possible, since my hair is obviously growing, but there's never any hint of roots. My natural hair is a dark brown and you'd never know it because roots never pop out. It's a mystery of science. 

 

And if you want a reference as to what my strip looks like - try Stacy London. Yep, that's what it's turning into. It's not quite there yet, but the way it's going it will be.
