R2s Muse I wanted to say I finally read your Night's Bloom fanfic and it is amazing! I love who you portray Cullen and Hawke falling in love :) I almost felt bad for Sebastian, but I mean its Cullen, he should of known he had no chance, lol. It is by far my favorite one I read of Hawke and Cullen.

D'aww, thanks so much! Honestly... it's still by far my fave thing I've ever written, even if it was the first.  So, thanks, that just made my day!! :D :happy dance:

So I totally missed the 5k festivities but I've been reading and admiring all of your work. And I promise I've been Cullen-centric even in my absence  lots of cullen fic out there to get lost in...

Oh and sketchy to share!!

HrAYB5j.jpg

Lots of staring at Cullen too :D miss you guys <3

May I add this to page 5000?

Ah no not Alistair (or Cullen) - the bread is much softer and squooshier.  But if Fenris in the middle is the meat, well...he's a grumpy one! :D

Edit: so maybe something like pastrami or...what's a spicy sandwich filling?  Not sure this metaphor entirely works, mind you.  Ooh ooh!  Cheese, wine and ramen!  An odd meal, no doubt, but there you have it.

(I really have turned into the hungry Denerim Chantry sister now, haven't I?  I've always felt she is probably my Thedosian counterpart.)

Now I'm tempted to re-write a whole canticle of the Chant of Light with her version... I feel that her version is much better!

Okay I did re-write a whole chunk of the Morning Prayer book I got  back then... It didn't contain any bacon or veal but somehow I managed to squeeze the whole story of "Cookie the Piglet's Adventure" into one of the hymns... with the rhyme included. Now everytime anyone sing that hymn I just got Cookie the Piglet's stanza in my head and can't stop giggling :D

Speaking of combat and to keep this Cullen related, did anyone else had the feeling that Cullen protects the Inquisitor during combat when you travel to the temple of Dumat for his personal quest?

I have noticed that as well.

As soon as I get hit, Cullen runs right for whomever hit me. While Cassandra and Bull just, I dunno, sit in the corner and play with themselves.

Just wish this place was larger then it was,.

Furthermore I cross my fingers Cullen can be a companion in a DLC.

Doubtful, but I remain hopeful.

Well Bioware, you know your homework...

even if it's only temporary companion that we can't control (something like Temple of Dumat)

Anyway they already got his "battle animation"... hmm...

True.

I am not sure exactly as to IF his Abilities Window is there...

Which...hmm

Ceru....I could kiss you! <smooches>

Why?

Because this brings up an interesting thought...

Would Cullen's specialization be a Templar? Champion? Other?

OR

Would be based on what you decided with this "Perseverance" Quest.

Templar- If he is taking Lyrium

Champion- If he is not taking Lyrium.

That's a concept!

Since he might not be able to use Templar's ability if he's not taking Lyrium anymore so his specialization become Champion, but still at Templar if he's kept to Lyrium.

Does anyone notice (esp. who had played Templar Spec) if Cullen's in Temple of Dumat use any Templar specialization?

I love this idea. Really hope that we can actually change that sword of him, or control him.

*Nah I'm not sure you want to smooch me, I've just eaten tons of garlic today  *

Hmm. Interesting idea! Although, to quote DG, "as Alistair proves, they can use the ability for a long time afterwards."

Hmm, possibly. We surpassed all the other character threads in the DA2 forums years ago, and that was with only 3000+ pages. I actually haven't done a comparison with the DA:I threads, since none of them had to start over again like we did when we moved here. Huh, altho even the twitter thread is only at 2913. May very well be!

Grats & great job everyone for 5000+ pages! That's so crazy, especially for a thread that wasn't even started a year ago

That banner is awesome R2! I love love love the throwback to the 500pg one, it's so cool how well you made them match together! I haven't really been active in the thread so it's really sweet to still be included somehow  <3

D'aww, I'm glad you like it! <3 The idea came from me being too unskilled technically to actually *modify* your original banner as I'd intended (as you know). LOL But then I realized that we actually had shots of Cullen in almost the same positions as those you'd originally used. :D

So weird to think it's been that long, eh??

There are so many retcon about Templar's Ability & Lyrium that I don't even know which is canon anymore... Is this DG's line canon then?

But long time afterwards might depend on each person no? Like how Lyrium affect each person differently. Cullen's been out of Lyrium (if his decision is encouraged by the quizzy) about more than a year by the end of the game. Can it stay that way or does the Lyrium in his body got burned already?

Or, since Lyrium's used by Templar to "fill" themselves with magic so that normal magic cast by a mage can't affect them, maybe it's like this parallel: Imagine the Fade & our world is separated by a wall. Normal non-magical human & elf & Qunari get a window to see through it, when they dream. Mages get a door, they can go inside it. Templars bang the wall to make a hole forcefully. So even if they stopped Lyrium the hole's still there. Cole did say something about Templar's body changed forever, they feel older than they look or things like that right?

Mmm, I wouldn't say that templar's lyrium use is so retconned. The fact that Seeker's don't need it is far more suspect to me. With Cullen... it's more that they just don't tell us enough to know why he's not suffering more, since up until now they've suggested quitting typically would have more dire consequences.

Anyway, I find it perfectly plausible that the abilities would still work for a while. I headcanon that they become increasingly less reliable, tho, so that you're lucky if they work or not after a certain amount of time. I also would expect that it would depend on the person, just as the strength of your addiction seems to (i.e. Cullen vs. samson the "chronic" addict).

I'm waiting impatiently for the Black Emporiam (did I spell that right?) because I made a mistake with my Qunari eye shadow. :/

Anyway, on topic. I've always liked Cullen, however my Amell has never blatantly flirted with him because it seemed out of character to be so forward. I've always imagined she was really innocent when she lived at the tower. I feel like I'm the only one who didn't make him run away. XD

*coughs*

What I mean is that how Alistair, a Templar that had never taken Lyrium, can use Templar's Ability? That's the point I really don't understand. So:

- Templar can use Templar ability without Lyrium, Lyrium only multiply the power, or

- Templar can't use Templar ability without lyrium

- Lyrium has no effect on Templar's ability & is only a way the Chantry use to control Templars

There's so many interpretation that I don't even get it anymore.

Hmmm I always imagine that Seeker's ability is because they got their connection to the Fade via the Spirit (Cass' Faith Spirit for example). It's very plausible that Templars that once used Lyrium (read: Cullen) can still use their ability for a while, but with diminishing effect over time. I always imagine that Templar's use of lyrium is like forcing a "hole in the wall" to the Fade to keep open with the Lyrium. Whether the hole will seal itself with time, leaving only scars, or will always stay there, Idk.

This can be a good base for a fanfic!

LOL No kidding. It's funny to think of all the questions we had that have now been... answered. I almost miss the uncertainty. ;)

There's still uncertainty R2s, thousands that I can think of

- Will Cullen be in any DLC?

- Will there be any Cullen-heavy DLC?

- Will Cullen survive this DLC?

- WIll there be any effect of Keep on Lyrium/Encourage Off Lyrium decision during his Perseverance quest?

- Cullen's spec: Templar or Champion?

- Will Cullen be mentionned in DA4?

- Will we get to see Cullen in DA4?

- WIll Cullen survive long enough to live up to DA4?

- How is Cullen's health later on his life (yes, I got worried...)

You posted that just before the 5K celebration, so I think we missed that last night, lol.

I had two mages. One was a horrible flirt anyway and couldn't resist.  ;)  The other was kind-hearted even though she was well aware of his feelings.

Replying to a bunch of things but too rushed for multiquote right now:

1. Looking forward to getting a chance to read everyone's p. 5000 posts! I couldn't join in because dissertation but I'm working very slowly on a comic that the theme inspired.

2. Cullen definitely I'm pretty sure Cullen has the Templar spec and can use at least some of the abilities: (EDIT: Wait, or maybe not; I guess there's a decent chance I had Cassandra with me on that run. BLARG NM)
fight_zps99c8e788.png

3. I didn't make him run away either. Glad I didn't, the "you're not distracting... I mean you are... but, well, you're not" line is still one of my favorite things he says in all three games. <3 I was so disappointed that you never get the chance to "come talk to him any time you like."

Oh. That. Well, that's all been addressed. Alistair did use lyrium. He was wrong in DA:O. DG has said that you definitely need it to have templar abilities, and Alistair himself says he started taking it *again* in the comics. Dunno I guess that just seems settled to me.

Of course... Seekers using *cough* templar specialization is, um, different. Yeah.

This has been officially retconned, for the record. Alistair did take lyrium during Templar training (which now goes against the DAI canon that Templars start taking lyrium once they swear their vows, so nice job retconning old canon to fit new canon only to end up contradicting new!new canon again lol~), and as of the comics canon, he started taking it again to be able to use his Templar abilities, as a preventive measure in case he needed them in his field trip to Tevinter (which he does, in the end).

It's not stated either way whether he stops taking lyrium again after the comics canon, though, so that's up in the air.
