Agree. I don't think they're parallel enough situations to compare which one has it better or "deserves" their suffering since they signed up for it or whatever.
To Elu's point, I think he's right in the sense that general feeling I got from things both Cass and Cullen said was that society tends to focus on the plight of the downtrodden mage (since people like to support an underdog), but much less so on the templars, for whom it wasn't all smooth sailing either. Cullen repeatedly makes the point that templars should have an easier way to get out, for example.
But there lays the problem.
i have racked my brain over this and cannot come up with any soultion.
If a Templar like Cullen chooses to leave the order and its put back on it (by player choice) later you can say, "WE will find a better way."
But what is a better way?
Its not like taking up smoking and then have a million ways too quit.
With Lyrium usage it seems like there is either take it or do not take it.
I mean there is Cole, he could remove the memories of having ever taken it. However considering Cullen is not one for wanting to lose his memories, I don't see that as a viable option.
