Yes, all mods will need to be re-patched after any official patch release. I also believe that the Mod Manager itself many need to be updated if it is incompatible with the new release, so you may need to wait on that from that author. So far I haven't had any problems re-patching my mods immediately after each official release, but I don't play with any "game-changers," just texture replacements. Not sure if that would make a difference. 

 

So what exactly will we need to do when Patch 5 comes out? How do you "re-patch"?

Anyway, something like the romance mods I imagine, which have a lot of work put into them, will probably be continuously updated by their creators, so I'm not too, TOO concerned. EDIT: And since Adela is doing the hair mods, I'm sure she'll keep them updated.

Step-by-step Guide to Modding DAI

 

1. Download the DAI Mod Manager: http://www.nexusmods...ition/mods/116/?

 

2. Create a folder on your desktop called “DAI Mods.” To be honest, it doesn’t actually have to be on your desktop and you can call it whatever you want, but that’s just what I do.

 

3. Download the mod you want.

 

4. Unzip the mod using WinRAR (or whatever program you like to use). I usually unzip it to my desktop.

 

5. Open up the now-unzipped file.

 

A. If it is a new mod, a file that ends in “.daimod,” then simply place the file in your newly created DAI mod folder (see Step 2).

 

B. If it is an older mod, then within the folder will probably be another folder. It will contain two files, one of which ends in “package.mft.” Move this folder (the one containing the two files) into your newly created DAI mod folder.

 

6. Open DAI Mod Manager.

 

7. You will be prompted to input the location of your game. If not prompted, simply add it yourself.

 

8. Next input the location of your DAI Mods folder (created in Step 2).

 

9. The mods will now populate within the Mod Manager. Select the ones you want loaded into your game.

 

10. Now leave that for a second and open your game via file explorer (C / Program Files / Origin Games / Dragon Age Inquisition… or wherever yours is). Do you see the folder called “Update”? Open it. Here you want to create a new folder called “merged.” Do so. (This is in the same folder where the “Patch” folder is located.)

 

10. Return to Mod Manager. Click “Merge” in the bottom right hand corner. It should choose the newly created “merged” folder automatically, but if not, find it and select it.

 

11. Mod Manager begins merging the files, and… a few minutes later, presto! You’re done 

 

In other news, I'm struggling with my current playthrough I am realizing that playing as an archer may be the hardest class. Because my first playthrough was also an archer, and was equally hard. But my S&S warrior is SUPER easy, and my mage is also easy. Anyway, I seem stuck at Level 9. I've defeated Hinterlands, Fallow Mire, and Storm Coast, and all that's left is mage/templar quest. I'm really nervous cause I'm not high enough!!

So I am making my way through my (modded) Solas romance, and... (spoilered because OT and for Solas romance spoilers)

It's SO PERFECT and I just need to squee with someone about it!!! I posted a brief squee in the Solas thread, bu I can't really hang out there because I don't want to be spoiled more than I already am on the romance. So I thought I'd freak out over here with you guys LOL I'm not kidding; I was going "Awww" and "Ohhh!" at the screen and holding my hand over my mouth at times; it is just sooooo the type of BioWare romance I've been looking for in DAI, so sweet and romantic, nothing sexual yet at all, just a few sly smiles and twinkling eyes. He told me sort of off-hand that I was graceful, and I was like, wait, did you just call me graceful?? I just about died LOL!!!! His little smiles are the best, and the inquisitor's voice gets very cute when he's flirting with Solas, like he's surprised and maybe a little turned on lol (And yes it is fully voiced, including lip syncs and facial expressions, so why on earth was this not in the game?????)

 

Anyway, if the Cullen romance is anything even CLOSE to this I am going to freaking DIE of happiness!!! I mean if they'd left this romance in it would be 100% my canon without a doubt. (As it is my canon will probably be a non-romance playthrough) And at least I have a happy ending to look forward to with Cullen!

And I really do see the appeal although I am straight - I guess I read to many Alistair X Cullen fanfics...

 

Concerning the patch: if it comes out I think you have to re-merge your mods, meaning opening the mod manager and merge your selected mods and replacing the files in your merged folder. Depending on the mod it may be necessary to wait for an updated version of the mod and/or mod manager. But our mod gods are working quite fast I noticed.

I started several new playthroughs because I tried to create a character I really like (and failed), anyway I noticed that in the first Haven talk with Cullen (outside) there is nearly always a different lieutenant standing next to him! It seems to be a random NPC. I don't know just found it funny when I noticed it. Thought you might too.

So what exactly will we need to do when Patch 5 comes out? How do you "re-patch"?

 

Provided the Mod Manager (and installed mods) are compatible with the new official patch, it should be as easy as deleting your current "Merged" folder and re-installing your mods.

 

Here is the process I follow so as not to end up with borked saves if I choose to not use mods anymore (credit to fontofnothing):

• Navigate to your vanilla patch in the Patch folder (mine is C:\Games\Origin Games\Dragon Age Inquisition\Update\Patch). Open up the patch in notepad and take note of the version number (I believe we're currently on version 5). Close up notepad.
• After you make your merged patch from the Mod Manager, go to your vanilla patch in the Patch folder and change the extension to .bak, so you'd have package.mft.bak. This prevents there being any confusion between the merged and vanilla patches. If you need to re-create a new merged patch in the Mod Manager, just make sure you remove the .bak extension and you're good to go - otherwise the Mod Manager will crash.
• Now, navigate to your merged patch in your Merge folder (mine is C:\Games\Origin Games\Dragon Age Inquisition\Update\Merged). Open up the patch in notepad and see what the version number is. By default it should be the next number sequentially from the vanilla patch(since we're officially on version 5, it would be version 6...and so on). This is where your saves will break. If you create a save on version 6 and then delete your mods (going back to version 5) you will get an error when trying to load them. To prevent this, simply change the version number of the merged patch to the same version as the vanilla patch. Save and done! Easy peasy. Now you can delete your modded patch and run the vanilla patch without worry of your saves being broken (of course you'll need to take the .bak extension off the vanilla patch). 
• I believe some of the mods give directions to have a "dummy patch" or something like that if you want to uninstall mods and not have corrupted saves. There's no need for this if you just keep track of your patch versions and make sure your merged patch version matches that of the vanilla patch. When BW sends out another patch, the vanilla version will change to 6, so when you re-patch your mods in, you'll need to change the merged patch version to 6 to match.

I've you haven't been maintaining your patch versions in such a manner, you want to make sure you don't change your merged patch to a lower version # if you've already created saves with the higher #, or else those saves will be borked.

If you flirt with him on the battlements then you will be in a "holding pattern" with his romance. At that point, you will need to advance to the point of getting the "batman" balcony scene, where you can end it. It doesn't take long to get to that point. I did that with Rhiannon before she ended up with Cullen. Blackwall is perma-benched in her playthrough because they don't get along. She thinks he's a coward because he wouldn't stand up for what he wanted and she thought he was playing mind games. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the Blackwall romance and Blackwall as a character, but Rhiannon doesn't like him. She believes in being direct in what you want - hence Cullen being her perfect match.

Ah Merrill - the one character I couldn't stand to be in the same room with. I never chose a flirt option with her simply for that reason.
 
In regards to the flirts, weren't they kinda obvious in DA:2, with a yellow heart or something? Or could you turn those off?

They were obvious... but also buggy. I never flirted with Merrill, of whom I was not fond... and she ninjamanced me. I think I might've fallen out of my chair when she showed up at the mansion. She and Anders were the unstoppable romance juggernauts of DA2.

Haha... don't ask me why it makes me so happy to play as a male elf... I'm still trying to understand it myself xD I did also like playing as male Hawke and male Shepard, and they are human, so... but I didn't feel as connected to them as I do to my inquisitors (or even my Skyrim elves). But I also feel very connected to my female Cadash. Possibly b/c I am roleplaying her as gender neutral. I also made her look like me (just, you know, hotter xD).

The pain will feel so good though... I don't mind bittersweet or even tragedy. I mean I loved the ME3 ending... the tragic love that had so recently blossomed between my Shep and Kaidan. I cried buckets and loved every minute of it xD

For those who drank from the well, I haven't gotten a chance yet, is it said that quizzy will constantly hear those voices in her head? Or can she turn it on and off?

 

It's not explicitly said the IQ will always be constantly plagued by the voices, but neither does it seem to be something she can just switch on and off at will. If you've made Morrigan drink in your playthroughs before, think of the scene at the war table where she's concentrating to make sense of the whispers - the Inquisitor does the same at that point, centering herself to understand the meaning of the elven words she's looking for.

 

From what I've seen of my IQ in relevant scenes after she drank from the well, Mythal's voice(s) seem to be similar to the song of lyrium, or the song of the taint (which, if certain speculations are right, may not be a coincidence); a subdued humming or a background white noise that is always there, at the back of your mind, but you get so used to that you don't even notice it anymore until it either gets too loud to ignore (like when Templars get overwhelmed by the thirst for lyrium), or you deliberately focus on (like when Wardens "feel" around for the presence of darkspawn). If that makes sense?

No screenshots yet; partly because I am too busy flailing and freaking out to hit "print screen" and also because so far there have been no cut scenes, just flirty dialogue.
