Lol, I have been debating on changing my avatar to either Halinia or another one of my female PCs. However, I don't know if people would recognize me as easily...or they could get confused....hmm...new Orion avatar or new avatar altogether?

Noooooooooooo!! Orion forever!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

in regards to Cass, I absolutely adored her romance! It was was of the funnest times I ever had playing as a male character!

Can't bring myself go for Solas because i am totally spoiled for it (having watched all the clips) and it seems so short.  With Cully, if you go pro-mage, you get so much extra stuff that feels like part of the romance even if it isn't.

Want to go male elf with Dorian next, but male elf is the hardest character for me to get into.  I am not sure why...perhaps because whenever I imagine myself as a dude, I am a huge, red-headed viking.  It is hard to play a wee tattooed elf!!

I also thought about going with a dark, sexy man to sweep Josie off her feet but...I am not sure I would dig it. And I can't go Blackwall cause he reminds me of my uncle (gah!!).

Thus, Cullen and Cass are destined to be my all time favs!!

Oooh I know this!

My *problem* with playing elfs is actually the height. I'm short IRL, my BF's favourite past time is to put his chin on the top of my head. My little brother's a head taller than me. It's rather trying to actually be shorter than everyone even in game! THat's why I'll never play dwarf...

BW's... I'm not into him. Sole reason: BEARD. No. I'll reconsider when the no-beard mod is OK.

So if I play a guy it'll either be a Trevelyan, or... a qunari. Bwah! Prepare yourself, Cass.

I see the thread's been zooming along again now that the 5k's over, wooo :P

I'm terribly attached to Cullen and I don't much enjoy loss in my romances (even if it is fictional and deliciously tragic, sigh), but I can see the appeal of the Solas romance. He has that mysterious, wise, angsty egg thing going on. Also, he was voiced by Ianto, and Ianto was adorable. I'll probably settle with watching all his romance scenes on Youtube instead of playing through it myself. Would love to illustrate something involving the Dread Wolf *_*

Hi guys :)  I'm new on this forum ! I'm very happy that i found it cuz i'm a huge fan of Cullen

I didnt know this game so far and when i discovered it, it was a crush for me

Btw sorry if my english is bad, it's not my native language.

I'm following you since "page 4500", and i really like all your screens and drawing

I appreciate much more to romance him like a Mage, it's like you really are a special perso and it prove that his view of mage is way different from the begginning.

I generally stay far, far away from romances with too much drama, including unhappy endings, but Solas... I couldn't resist. Faerunner and I are twins, basically - intelligent, thoughtful, introverted, polite, scholarly types are exactly what I'm drawn to most. Especially if they have a lovely voice to match. But unlike the Cullen (or Alistair) romance, which I will happily play over and over again until the day I die, giggling and getting screencaps and headcanoning them floating among fluffy clouds of TWU WUV for eternity - BioWare be hanged - the Solasmance is one I can't replay and enjoy. Not until it gets resolved one way or the other, and if the resolution is... not good... that'll really be the end.

I just don't like too much drama in my PC's personal lives. There's enough of it going on all around them as it is. I'm a strange bird, I know... :D

You also get tons of extra stuff as a Templar, I believe moreso than mage. I've done the romance as a mage, rogue, warrior (Champ) and warrior (Templar) and Templar just owns all in terms of content and meaning, in my opinion.

And so far guys...yeah Rhiannon is now my canon playthrough...

LOL I'm kind of the opposite. XD

In real life I've always been taller than most people (ever since a growth spurt in second grade that left me taller than my peers by third grade), so I like playing characters that are shorter. Especially elves since they're also slim like me, but dwarves just look up at everyone. *_* It's fantastic!

I don't like beards though >.< So that's another point in Solas' favor. (Although my beau has a considerable beard in real life. Go figure.) I'll don't mind the stubble on Cullen as much since it doesn't look like it'll swallow you if you kiss him the way, say, Blackwall's does. (I call it the Blackhole of Hairiness. :D )

Hehe I surely understand the attractiveness of elfs. Basically I love how DA presents elfs as being shorter than any other race & lithe. Short that I am, I love playing elfs. That just gives an air of rather young & merry (who cares for RP, I did RP with my Trev so not really RP on my Lavellan). My Trevelyan's basically too serious. So just make a kid-like fun & snarky Lavellan and problem solved, cookies with Sera

There's an old saying: the river is deepest where the water is calmest... (approximate translation). Solas' calm. Well...

Funnily enough we have this saying in English too: 'Still waters run deep.'  (Well, basically the same thing I think!)

Er...something on topic...er...hmm...er...Cullen is super foxy?

With the mage you get a couple extra dialogues (I might miss some)

  • Perseverance
  • First Kiss
  • Lake date
  • Abomination talk

With the Templar you get a lot of extra dialogue just going with the class that isn't romance-related, but if you are in a romance, it takes on a whole new level (moreso if he is also taking lyrium):

  • When Cullen first tells the IQ that he stopped taking lyrium
  • Perseverance
  • Prayer Scene
  • Pre-Spec talk
  • Post-Spec talk
  • Post main campaign talk (haven't gotten there yet, but have heard about it)

I'm not sure if there are any changes during Before the Dawn. I will have to let you know on that.

I understand how some like the mage dynamic, I just don't. Most of the extra content is the IQ questioning him over and over..."I'm a mage, is that ok???" "You're alone with a mage, is that ok???" When I played through as a mage it actually started to wear on me like a girl constantly asking her b/f if he still thinks she's pretty. With a Templar, yes there's more angst, but to me it feels like they're challenging each other as equals, rather than the mage always needing confirmation of his feelings. I guess it's just a self-confidence thing? I dunno, that's just how I see it. Folks are free to play the game however they wish. That's just my take on it!  :)

Hmm.

Watching "Sleepy Hollow" and I wonder if Tom Mison would be good as Cullen? Need to change his eye and hair color...possibly a work-out.

Same here. I don't like drama or bad boys. I like sweet, sincere, kind, polite guys (though especially intelligent scholarly types! :P), and I love cute fluffy romances. (Part of why I love my beau in real life.)

It's heresy to say so in the Solas fan thread, but I was really put off when Solas revealed a much more calculating persona who relishes deadly court intrigue at the Orlesian Ball. Many of his fans love it, but I was horrified and disgusted, and seriously considered jumping ship for Cullen then and there. Solas' nice, polite, friendly persona was what I fell in love with, and I felt this amoral schemer was closer to who he really was. (Meanwhile, Cullen may be a devout Andrastian human, but he was genuinely kind with a fully functioning moral compass.) For a while I seriously considered going back to a previous save before the romance start or find a way to break up with Solas to pursue Cullen instead. But I thought, "The game's almost over, I've come this far, I might as well see this romance to the end."

I'm glad I did too. Even though it's possible Solas' nice guy persona isn't 100% who he is, the scheming persona at the party isn't 100% who he is either. He's a complex person with a balance of flaws and virtues just like everyone else. He's still a genuinely good guy who cares very deeply about people and wants to help improve the world. He's good to Cole (who is literally Compassion personified), lists Lavellan's kindness as one of the reasons he loves her, and it's clear he does loves her very deeply and feels very happy with her. And the final romance scene is sooo well-done. I'm so glad I stuck it out.

I still like Cullen, but I want to romance him as a Dalish Keeper's First, but it's really hard because many of the same traits that would attract her to him are also present with Solas (at least when you meet him), and Cullen has that "devout Andrastian human and former Templar" thing that would make it hard for her to warm up to him for a long time. I'm having trouble realistically keeping her uninterested in Solas so she could be free to fall for Cullen later. x_x

I don't normally like drama in LIs, especially not unhappy endings (for now), but Solas sucked me in because what there is of it is really good. As much as I enjoy Cullen's, I can't quite get past the fact I have to make several compromises for that one.

I had a very similar reaction to Solas' line at the Winter Palace. Along with Cullen casting his vote on the "Let Celene die" pile. Thankfully Cullen backs off from that, as I learned thanks to this thread, but my Lavellan was giving Solas uncertain sideways glances for quite some time afterwards...

Edit: Argh, how do my posts keep ending up ToP when they weren't originally? Um.... repost?

Re: the italic parts, I would separate "the mage dynamic" vs "the mage-specific dialogue options"--you aren't required to take them, and Cullen and my mage definitely saw each other as equals. Hugely agree with the bold part -- I only ship Cullen with circle mage PCs and I still didn't take most of the mage-specific dialogue (possibly any of it, don't quite remember). Too much internalized anti-mage sentiment in those dialogue options. :( Might have worked for my Amell, who was younger, but my Trevelyan was a present-day self-insert and I'd never have said that stuff by this point in my/her life. His responses are cute, though.

EDIT: In any event, though, going up the chain of replies, timebean was referring to siding with mages or templars rather than being a mage or a templar.

SECOND EDIT: I was thinking about what mage-specific dialogue options I would have liked instead of the "but are you sure you don't hate me?!" ones, and I'm honestly not sure. Maybe something at the beginning to take him to task a little harder about Kirkwall* a la http://archiveofouro...g/works/2152824, or maybe a bit more content for the "oh you're from a Circle? I'm from a Circle!" awkward small talk that he starts with you in Haven.

* I say "at the beginning" because we all know, especially by the end, that he was more than hard enough on himself, but our PC wouldn't necessarily know that until partway through the game.

THIRD EDIT: Was that flirt with him after he expresses surprise that Vivienne doesn't hate him on principle exclusive to mages? I did like that one a lot.

Totally agree and my bad on the quote - I should have quoted Lynas!

I completely agree with Timebean too - I almost always recruit the mages. I wouldn't call it "pro-mage" though, since I usually conscript them. My current IQ saw the mages as the bigger threat and decided to handle them first, which lead to her conscripting them and losing the Templars. But one thing that is neat is that you can still do table missions to bring in the remaining loyal Templars.

Interesting. No. I am not turning this into a debate. I for one find peoples options fascinating.

I for one choose a Mage to romance Cullen. Do I see the repeat lines of asking, “Hey I’m a Mage” irritating? No. The reason is because it’s a two-fold thing. Cullen expresses his feelings on Mages, thus calling the mage to question his feelings about her being a mage. It’s not really the mage calling into question the relationship it’s because Cullen gives cause for her to do so.

But this also depends on how you choose to play your character. Some people chose the Mage options while they are playing a Mage and some do not. Do I? Yes. I feel it gives the relationship more depth and meaning. After the lake scene even if there were options, I would not choose it. The lake scene pretty much seals it for my character as to how Cullen sees her.

For me the Mage/Cullen romance comes off as me sitting on the edge of my seat biting my nails, wondering what could happen next. Well I at least felt that way the first time I played it.

I find it kind of romantic and fate wise that Cullen would fall for a mage. Considering the fact my DAO character was a Mage too. Thus he fell for a Mage but could not have her. Later he treated Mages like sh*t and now he is on the rebound.  In my head I believe it adds to his redemption.

I personally do find it a bit weird that people choose to romance Cullen as a warrior (or a rogue). The dialogue options come off uninteresting. But and I say…BUT, if that is how a person chooses to play, I respect that. After all I am not you and this game is after all about choices and what you choose to do and what makes you enjoy the game.

I'm personally really really love MagexCullen dynamic. I always play Mage so it's my favourite. But Melissa's headcannons & Templar path seems interesting really. It's two side of a same coin.

I never choose the "alone with a mage" option at the lake, but I see why it's there, given the revelations in "Perseverance". I always use the mage-specific line to open the romance, though, because it makes perfect sense for my Trevelyan - she's sensed Cullen's hesitation and given his reaction to bringing in the mages, etc., she's wondering if her magic use might be what's holding him back. But no! It's all good! Huzzah! :D  In fact, I was pleasantly surprised at just how smoothly the mage version of the romance went. If Cullen had been a LI in DA2, I don't think I would've dared pair him with a mage, not ever; by DAI he's finally moved on enough that I'm comfortable with it (after that first round of "You're okay with this? All right then!" :kissing:).
