I had such a good day today I needed to share with you guys so I hope you won't mind! I got my annual review today, which is a huge thing in my world since it sets the tone for the whole year. It also decides what your compensation levels will be when we get our annual raise and bonus in March. Anyways, I have a new boss this year (she used to be my boss' boss a few years ago, but through staff movement and re-orgs she's now my boss). She's known to be a bit of a "harda$$." Let's face it, for a woman to make it as upper-level management in the corporate world, she kinda has to be. Times are a changin' (the company is now lead by almost all women) but she's been with the company for over 20 years. I have never had a review where someone kisses my a$$ so much. It felt really nice to know that what I do matters and that apparently I am the golden child on the team. The company went through some really tough times and has had to rebuild a lot since 2008 (we actually all thought we'd be without jobs at one point) and is just starting to get a good head of steam again. She said that "I will be very happy with my merit increase and bonus this year and that when I get it I need to go out and treat myself." Oooooh I can't wait to find out what it is! We get them the 1st week of March. 

 

Anyways, sorry for the OT I was just so excited and practically dancing when I got off the phone with her today. Have a Cullen!

It sometimes happens two seconds after turning the PC on, so I seriously doubt it's a heating issue. And yeah, you appear to have more faith in Dell technicians than I do

 

Well, as I've said before, I needed a computer that would fit under my TV so I can play in my living room, just like on my xbox. A massive beast of a desktop is not feasible for me. So I had to look for a smaller PC. There were basically only two or three options; I went with the alienware because it was cheapest.

I miss my old computer...that thing was a monster.

Er, what's the PCI slot?

PCI-express, actually. It's the slot your video card slides into on the motherboard If your computer shuts down after two seconds, it's probably not wired properly (i.e. cables coming from the power supply are not all where they should be). I forgot to hook up one set of cables, and the PC would not even start. It just gave of a whistling sound, and that was that. Then I realized what I was missing, and the computer started up right away after I fixed things.

Yeah, bigger case is always better. I will probably build myself a new computer thus year, or next year the latest. I have monitored my hardware to see if it overheats, and it looks fine so far. I've had the video card for about half a year, and had no problems. The power supply starts whirring when I play something graphics heavy (like DA:I), but since the temps are OK, I think I don't need to worry about that.

But, I am definitely excited about building my computer, rather than buying it from Dell I just need to find the time to do the research on what components would be good

 

Some games seem to cause more coil whine than others for me. DA:I is pretty silent except for the fans, but with Guild Wars 2 my PSU coils sing like an opera! It's completely normal, but it's a bit disconcerting (and annoying at times). 

 

I think I've come to realize Mel, my Alienware computer just does not like me running my game even on high settings.

 

Its like its telling me: "Yes, that is it, play on crappy settings." :/

 

Well, you guys know how I feel about Alienware and anything to do with Dell.

The PCI slot is where the GPU plugs into the motherboard. The motherboard is the big flat green thing (usually up against the back wall of the tower) that everything is plugged into.

Honestly, I really have no faith in Dell technicians. Dell is a bad word in my house based on all the issues my b/f and I have had to deal with with his dad's computers over the years since he insists on buying Dell even though I've offered to design him a setup (which would save him money). 

 

Depending on where your computer is set up, you can still enjoy playing on a TV with huge tower. I have a HDMI cable running from my computer to my surround receiver in a completely different room. That allows me to use my HDTV as a monitor any time I want at the flip of a button. With wireless keyboard/mouse and controllers, it can work just like a console. I don't do it often though since my office is comfortable for me. Honestly, the only time I use it is when I'm cleaning house and want to listen to music nice and loud through the 7.1 surround system. Flip the switch and boom all my music is there.

You want to know what I ended up doing to remedy that for Lysaris? I headcanoned her with a previous boyfriend. A male human, blond, treated her poorly. (Did you read my poor attempt at a fanfic? I don't remember. It was awful, anyway. I don't suggest it. I'm going to rework it and see if I can get it to look right.) No matter how attracted to Cullen she was, she couldn't shake that he reminded her of her past. Something she did not intend on repeating. So she ended up with Solas... which was better for her in some ways and worse for her in others. Both decisions have merit. Eventually you're going to have to be the one that makes the choice.

Yes. I've written a lot of short fiction, but never with someone else's characters. I was so nervous about giving Solas the right voice. Still am. Since that's kind of the basis of his appeal for me. The poetic cadence of his words... soft, gentle, calming... intelligent. It was the intelligence I noticed first. He exudes it, he doesn't even have to speak. You can see it in the subtle lift of his eyebrow, his thoughtful movement. Which was another thing that swayed me. The suggestive sway of his hips as he gracefully walked over and waved his hand to light the veilfire, as if he were conducting an orchestra of light meant only for you and he. The strong, proud stance, with his broad shoulders and folded back arms, surprisingly muscly for an elf. The way he looks at you, curious and yet somehow the look carries an overtone of sheer admiration and joy. A joy that it's made clear by those soft, blue eyes, can only be brought about by your presence. And the knowledge that when he takes you in his arms, you will be well kissed.

 

Oh-- oops. I got carried away.

Sigh... I hate turning the game off for the night But gosh I ran around Western Expanse for what, two hours? And not a single banter. GET YOUR SH!T STRAIGHT BIOWARE!!!  I had the recommended "golden team of adorableness," Cass, Solas, and Cole, so I'm disappointed. 

 

Stupid work... and you just know that by 11pm I won't be at all tired and will feel like staying up no matter how early I have to get up in the morning. It's all just wasted gameplay hours. I sound addicted. Addicted to your love, Solas  

 

Oh, one bonus of my computer constantly restarting a few hours ago was being "forced" to hear the post-Fade Kiss conversation 5+ times. Hehehehe

Thank you for the encouragement. And yes. I will definitely keep trying. I Intend on using this playthrough as inspiration for my fanfic. I've been having my ps4 record game footage (especially cut scenes) so I can refer to them later. I've also been studying his facial expressions and dialogue so I can be accurate in my descriptions.
