IMO, I don't see the big deal about going OT from time to time. I mean we all are here because we are fans of Cullen - thus in a round-about-way we are always on topic. We share a common love for Cully-Wully.

It's not just about getting slapped by the mods, it's about the thread being readable. On Twitter and tumblr I absolutely love talking to the awesome people I met in the Cullen thread about what we had for breakfast or what labmate is getting on my nerves or whatever, but here it's nice not to have to skim through pages of that to pick up one DLC rumor or discovered sound file or whatever. It drives me nuts when people make separate threads to talk about some actual Cullen-related topic because we're too OT (especially when half the time it seems to occur on days when we actually happen to be on-topic).
EDIT: And I'm aware we haven't been breakfast-level off-topic in months, at least on pages I've read. I just don't want to make it sound like I'm calling out anyone in particular by using real examples.
Hey guys! Been busy lately, so haven't really been on here, but I wanted to post these HoDA screenshots. Just noticed it this morning, but it looks like the Knight-Captain Cullen unit's icon and model were updated to look less like DA2!Cullen and more like Inquisition!Cullen. Maybe part of yesterday's updates? Here's the icon, and the updated KCC I - IV shots (plus one old shot) are under the spoiler tag:
That's so weird! I'd kind of liked the old version (though this is way more attractive, plus I thought the old one looked more like DAO Cullen than Knight-Captain Cullen per se). Do you have Advisor Cullen yet, and if so can you share screenshots? (I still don't have either!)

I've had it for 6 months or so and have only spent real money on it twice (bought one pack when they had increased odds on Knight-Captain Cullen, and my husband bought me a second pack on my birthday), which I consider well worth it for all the time I've killed with it while waiting for the bus etc.

Ooh is that a mod or just a weird lighting thing? I noticed that occasionally his eyes look blue even though they're not (especially in the promo images.) Although sometimes I wish his eyes were blue (or another color than amber) to make him more distinct from Alistair.

I am trying to come up with a better beginning of the story I was thinking of having Cullen's children ask him about their mother and he starts telling them about how he first met their mother. Or having a back drop of the the children telling the story to the their younger sibling.
My mental image:
I think it's more difficult if you choose the latter because obviously, their children were not there when Cullen and the mother first met. So if a sibling tells it it couldn't be as accurate as when Cullen tells the story himself. That being said, is there a frame story why his children want to hear this story?

I've been strict with myself about spending money on this game, but I did let myself splurge when he was released. I won't admit how much I spent, but I will say that I'm slightly bitter that they didn't remove Soldier Pack legendary units from (Grand) Champion Packs until after he was released and removed from packs. Currently, there's no way to get him. I'm holding out hope for Nexus events in the future. I was lucky to get Knight-Captain Cullen in one Champion Pack purchase using earned gems the day before my birthday.

You don't need to spend any money to get decent units in HoDA, but you would (in my opinion) need a good amount of willpower and patience to stop you from spending money to speed things up or buy those shiny new units when they are added to the game. I have no desire to do that (except for when Advisor Cullen was available), so my current method of playing is to earn gems in PvP events (you can also earn them from completing standard quest maps and achievements), and then spend some of those gems on Nexus events to earn legendary units. I will also pour earned gems back into PvP events if there's a Champion Pack at the top of the PvP ladder of prizes.
Anyway, it's free to play, so you don't have to pay anything to try it out. If you decide that you hate it, and it makes you want to throw your phone/tablet at the wall, you can always uninstall it.
LOL Truly I don't think we are being OT in this thread. In any case, this thread is a community; we have always made this a safe place to discuss Cullen, other characters, or Dragon Age in general. Sometimes we share personal stuff or go off on brief tangents discussing favorite TV shows and the like. We always swing back to Cullen, simply because that is the unique topic that brings us all together.
If some moderator came and chastised us and threatened to close us because we were discussing Solas for a couple pages instead of 100% Cullen, well, it would be the most ridiculously thoughtless and hypocritical thing ever, considering some of the extremely nasty and TRULY OT "discussions" I've encountered in other threads that do NOT receive warnings and indeed do not even receive a response from mods when I make the effort to report them.
However, I don't think that's going to happen, and even if it did, I'm not sure I'd even want to hang out on a forum that polices friendly groups like us while letting more hostile communities run rampant.
But yeah, I don't think we've been OT. And people have always posted art of other characters besides Cullen here (Alistair and Dorian are the biggest "offenders" lol) so I think if someone wanted to post their fan art of Solas it should not be a big deal. We are a community and I don't think we should start policing each other and making up rules to enforce on one another.
And yes I'm ignoring the one or two ridiculous times mods came and "warned" us for being OT lol That's like warning kittens for playing with a ball of yarn, I mean really! I could think of 20 other threads more offensively OT than this one, and NOTHING gets done about them!
Anyway... I promise I'll have more to say about Cullen once I can romance him

It's not pay to play. I enjoyed the game for months without paying a thing. I only stopped playing when they released that hideous "slave" Fenris ... and on Valentine's Day, no less!

Hmm, not really sure what you mean. His armor is the same as before, but his face is not. The "before" shot was how he used to look (it's a shot I took back in late August). Cullen only has two units in HoDA, both legendary: Knight-Captain Cullen (legendary one star) and Advisor Cullen (legendary three star).

Not that I want to cause trouble here but agree with Owlfruit. Granted, I am terribly off topic myself sometimes so I am really not pointing fingers at anyone here. But it's true that the thread gets harder to read and information are harder to find if there are 5 pages of off-topic discussions (as funny as they may be).
I see this thread as a community, too. In fact, it's like a safe island in a big ocean of threads that sometimes make my mind boggle. So, it's really nice to share some off-topic things from time to time and I don't think it can be avoided. However, I don't think it should continue over several pages and from my point of view, it doesn't matter so much what's going on in other threads and if the mods are being hypocritical if they close ours. The point is that they could and then the thread is gone. So, I don't think the few times when a mod came in here and gave us a slap on the wrist should be ignored. So far, we were on good terms with them. Let's keep it that way by showing some respect for their conditions .

I think it's a case of moderation in all things. Two pages of Game of Thrones is not where we want to go. It's off topic and weighs down the thread, making it hard to keep up with. But, chat in moderation is different, as is dragon age related talk.
That being said, I agree with Owlfruit Potion that we want to maintain this as a space where folks feel that they *can* come discuss Cullen, and that they don't need to be a "member" of the community to do so. Or go somewhere else to discuss it instead.

If y'all can give an example of how we've been OT in the past few days then I could perhaps better understand what you're talking about and moderate our behavior appropriately.
