We are a community and I don't think we should start policing each other and making up rules to enforce on one another.

I don't think anyone is actually doing that? Nobody ever really gets on anyone's case about going OT here unless we're doing milestone countdowns, but if there's going to be 10-15 pages of Solas discussion on the Cullen thread, it does beg the question of what the Solas thread is there for. And if people prefer to ask questions about Cullen on the general forums because it's more likely to get an answer there than here, it does beg the question of what the Cullen thread is here for, too. That's more the point Owl was making, I think?

Sigh, this is not worth getting stressed over. I mentioned the warning on the Blackwall thread because I saw it last night and it reminded me of the last we we got called out, but I'm not the thread police nor anyone's mom. It was just an observation. Post whatever you want, no one's not telling anyone what to do.

-------

Anyway, I'm also really not in a good place IRL to be arguing thread politics right now, so I'll just bow out for a few days before I say anything wrong again. Forget I said anything, sorry for the minor drama, and see you guys around. Happy noodles for everyone. ♡

I think this was said earlier, but I can't remember by whom: it was sort of nice when we were using the multiquote option before we hit 5k.

Oh, and yesterday I mentioned that Cullen would be good to have as a buddy in the trenches, and now I want to draw him as a WW2 paratrooper :D Maybe we could do a whole series of DA characters as WW1 or 2 soldiers? :)

Hey, there's no drama; we're just discussing :) Don't worry!

Well I can't go into the Solas thread yet b/c I will get spoiled lol Hence why I stay here. But really, we did not really spend pages and pages talking only about Solas... we really didn't.

I also don't remember anyone asking anything in here related to Cullen that failed to get answered (at least if it wasn't obviously trying to cause a negative reaction?) Can someone point us to what we've supposedly ignored related to Cullen?

Edited: Well, I was curious, so I poked around, but I couldn't see threads related to Cullen that were created recently other than one about romances that didn't say anything about having asked here or feeling uncomfortable asking here (or even that the person knew there was a Cullen thread.) I didn't think we'd been all that off topic recently, certainly not nearly as much as other times when TV programs (which I don't watch, lol) have gotten extensive discussion, lol.

This doesn't happen. But I think the concern is valid that folks might expect it to happen, and so go elsewhere. So I think some of this is perception. As Owlfruit pointed  out, sometimes folks are going elsewhere to talk Cullen even when we are also talking Cullen. There's not so much we can do to convince people to join us if they don't want to. But staying closer on topic can help.

Anyway, I'm not sure why it seems to be turning into a drama, but I think something for us all to think is about is that we should all strive to be the change that we want to see. Want more Cullen? Talk more Cullen.

GDI we're awesome  Look at us, talking like rational and friendly people

I can seriously promise that once that mod comes out you guys won't be able to shut me up about Cullen. Sorry if I've waxed too poetic about Solas recently. I'm just so excited to finally be enjoying the game.

Oh and that reminds me, I have a question. What are the tricks to preserving saves and not accidentally saving over a favorite scene? *coughFadeKisscough* I've just had to memorize that it's save #22:33 and hope I don't accidentally save over it.

Instead of pushing the button for Quick Save, go to the menu and select "Save." Then select New Save. That will create a new series of separate save files. Dunno what the controls are for you to do those things.

Unfortunately that's the only way since we can't edit our save names. I have little cheat sheets for all my playthroughs.

As far as I can tell, keeping a handwritten list of saves is the only possible way *rolling eyes*

Here's a question: up until "Abyss," do you think Cullen believed that the figure in the Fade was Andraste? And after the revelations of that quest, how do you think his beliefs changed? We get to talk with Josephine about it, but never him...

And Leliana & Cass too.

Personally I don't think his belief is changed... He has been through more trying things concerning his Faith & still managed to keep it. He understands quite well about Demons & Spirits IMO, so it's possible that he'll just waive his hand about it & "It's All In The Maker's Plan".

Huh. I think if I do this though it will just look like the other saves... it will still just be another number to memorize :( I wonder if I can copy the save and move it somewhere else?

I think he's the sort who doesn't know WHAT to believe about all this mess. I think it's easier for him to focus on more mundane matters... like protecting people, and doing the Maker's work the only way he knows how. Then again, I've only seen the prayer scene once....

Oh, wasn't sure what you were asking. If you can figure out which file it is in your Save folder, you can copy the file elsewhere (like the Patch 5 beta instructions). The problem is... figuring out which save it is because the filenames are not obvious. You could load it, resave it as a new file and copy the most recently created save file elsewhere.

Huh. Great question. I see him as being faithful, but also practical. I guess I would expect him to be a bit skeptical from the start and so unsurprised when we find out it's not necessarily her.

So... I was just thinking... someone said to me that they felt Cullen was really just a more intelligent Alistair... as far as romance options.

But...

I really liked Alistair. And I was kind of sad that he didn't seem all that bright because I'm attracted to intelligence more so than pretty faces...

So, even with that ideology, I was like "Well, alright! I'm on board with this!" And I was not disappointed.

Actually, funny story. When I played DA:O as Amell, I was really sad that Cullen kind of rejected me when he was being imprisoned in the circle tower because he was the one I wanted, not Alistair... and so my Amell ended up with Alistair basically as a rebound. And then later, I went back to the tower and made out with Alistair right in front of where Cullen was standing. Because I was mad at him. (I'm sorry. I'm a bad person.) Anyone else have a similar story?

LOL I've heard of similar stories of the Cullen-Amell/Surana-Alistair tension. I don't have an Amell myself, so I didn't really do it.

As for the similarities, I dunno I see a lot of differences between the Cullen and Alistair. Cullen, for all his displays of actual humor in DA:I, is still a very serious person, esp given Varric's comments about him. He's very dedicated to duty, I'd even say defined by it. Not that Alistair can't be those things, too. But I don't see them as character defining for him as I do for Cullen. On intelligence... I just still laugh that Cullen's DAO CHR file said "average intelligence," even if admittedly that was identical for almost all the characters.

I actually perceive DA:I Cullen as intelligent, more than DA:O Alistair. Alistair's banter with Morrigan's rather showing his very *naive* side. Cullen is the Commander of the Force. From how he manages to do things & take command of the army shows that he gets a good brain inside that blond mess.

But Cullen got pouty once when Morrigan treated him like a stupid child... That's cute IMO.

Well, my first PT was not an Amell/Surana but a Cousland. Actually the surprise was when I discovered Cullen's stutter at my canon Amell PT...

I think he was always skeptical that the IQs survival at Haven was a direct intervention. I actually think his faith in the Maker stayed firm, while from the beginning he clearly now (whether or not he had previously) viewed the Chantry itself put politics and power ahead of religion. Not quite the words I want, but I'm typing on a tablet, lol...

(so, are we allowed to discuss things or not; I was getting the impression there was a request to drop anything not essential; i.e. games news or new mods directly related to Cullen so people didn't have to work through speculation and even Cullen screenshots?)

Agree 100%; they are two very different characters. Cullen is quite serious and very duty-bound; Alistair is neither of those things. You could argue that he was duty bound to the Wardens, but that was more because he basically attached himself to Duncan as a father figure and to the Wardens as a place where he could finally "belong." Cullen joined the templars because he wanted to make a difference.

I also don't put much stock in the DAO intelligence thing lol (as I know you don't); it's clear the man is intelligent. He's an excellent chess player and a military strategist. You don't rise to the rank of commander of the inquisition armies by being a total dummy. (It's a lot easier to be made king... sorry, Alistair :P)

Yes. You are right. I have observed substantial differences between Alistair and Cullen myself. I did not mean to imply that I thought they were interchangeable. I just meant I still would have been aboard the Cullen train if that had been the case. As it stands, I have held preference for boarding the Cullen train over the Alistair train since my Amell playthrough in DAO.
It's kind of funny because this is the first dragon age game I've actually had more than lukewarm feelings for any of the LI's. I was kind of interested in Alistair, but none of the other three really got my attention. No one in DA2 impressed me at all, though Fenris came the closest... Then DAI comes out and I get excited about both Cullen and Solas only to find out later that both had been afterthoughts. Lol.

I don't see Cullen and Alistair as all that similar either. They share a few traits and a background in the Templars, but overall their personalities, goals and character arcs seem quite distinct, as do their romances. Of course it all depends on how generally you're looking at things - they both definitely fall into the "good Chantry boys" group of LIs (a category which I hope continues to be represented in future games! ;)).

As far as my Amell was concerned, Uldred killed Cullen. That templar with Cullen's face and voice was someone else entirely - a stranger - and she treated him as such the (very, very few) times they had any contact after she rescued Irving. It was an act of self-preservation, really.
