So...I have a qucik question(s) for you lore masters. Do darksapwn have the same connection to the fade as humans? Ie, can they dream, and do their mages manipulate the fade like human mages do?
And also, just for clarification...dwarfs cannot access the fade or dream. Humans and elves (and, if I am correct, darkspawn) can. Is the correct?
And one more thing...templars block their own connection to the fade. As per Cole, they "reach for something older, deeper." Any speculation on what this means ( I figure this is on topic, since Cullen is a templar...and thus you guys would know best)!!!! I just wondered because Cullen seems to dream alot, and yet as a templar, he actively blocks the fade. Is this just because he has stopped taking lyrium, and now his unconscious mind accesses the fade again? But then, it is confusing because mages use lyrium to tap into the fade. So...I just... I am...confused. Help! Could someone break it down for me like I am a small child??
Need to know for writing purposes! Thanks!
Also, R2, I agree with not using the word "hell" in Thedas, as it makes no sense. Problem is, I think i have done that occasionally without thinking about it! Blasphemy! Now doing a search of giant document to delete/replace the word hell. Bloody hell!!
On the use of Hell, DA writers are split. It's lore bending, and in-world should be replaced with the Void or the Abyss ("to the Void with that" etc). However, English isn't a Thedosian construct either, so some writers just use it anyway ... and to hell with that level of accuracy
. So I think it's up to you whether it bothers *you,* the writer or not. [[for example, even a word like "okay" seems to have a purely American origin that has no bearing or parallel in Thedas... but I still use it, altho it bothers me, evenso]] (for fun, my guide to swearing in Thedas: To the Void with That! Swearing and Exclamations in Thedas)
On templars dreaming, Cullen clearly must have before going off the lyrium, so I'm not convinced that would influence his dreaming. I personally always view his nightmares as a result of trauma and regular ole human psychology as opposed to something templar-y or lyrium induced. But it could be.
On darkspawn and the Fade... I could swear this was addressed in either Awakenings or the Calling. I'm pretty sure that darkspawn don't dream because they don't sleep. Just like they don't eat. They're just fueled off the Blight somehow. (that part is from the Calling) I thought the Fade and magic stuff might be touched upon in Awakenings... ? Dialogue with the talking darkspawn, or maybe part of convos with Justice about going into the Fade in the swamp...? I don't remember the details tho.
Where's Elu?!? (and why don't we have a way of tagging people here?!? LOL)
