Right exactly.

The whole less sleep has me thinking because in The Arbor Wilds it mentioned that Cullen has only slept for no more then an hour three days running.

I am not sure if this is because of what is going on-the war, with-drawl or perhaps its a habit formed from the years being a Templar that they do not sleep as much. It could of course be all thee above.

Great. Now the wheels are spinning in my head.

I would imagine that it's more old training habits. I would imagine that it's more that in a Circle, Templars learn to sleep very lightly and for short amounts of time, as they need to be ready at a moment's notice should a situation occur.

Also, remember that in The Arbor Wilds, Cullen has probably spent the past several days busy planning out the battle as he is the commander of the entire military force.

Something I've been meaning to ask - are his eyes blue/green in this promo shot, or am I crazy? You probably already discussed this way back when.

Thus I wonder if a Templar is in the Fade they are able to dispel demons with their powers and/or dispel their own powers to not attract the attention of demons.

No, while their mind is in the Fade, Templars have no power whatsoever.

While in The Fade, The Shade you encounter seems to be drawn to the magic. Maybe its only certain demons?

Except that lyrium is not the same as magic. There is a difference.

From a spirit in the fade:

Drops from a grey sky

Brilliant flashes, pooling and puddling

I watch where they land, and run to them, again and again

I press may face against them

I see them shimmer, their bright futures, their sad pasts, their aching hearts so full of life

My own face is distorted in the shimmer that surrounds them

I reach in to touch them, but they push me back

I do not belong in the light

They are visitors here, clutching pieces of their home

As they disappear, I try to go with them

But I never can

I remain, under the grey sky

Waiting, always waiting, for the visitors to return.

Now, time for dinner!!!

Sounds like a spirit of desire, of longing, almost corrupted into a demon.

.Except that lyrium is not the same as magic. There is a difference.

Now that is all sorts of confusing.

Solas said something along the lines, of lyrium being the source of all magic save that which mages bring themselves.

So what ...lyrium is magic but its not.

Lyrium is love, lyrium is...alive according to DAI.

I would say that it's perhaps a source of magic, but not the only one. Cause mages can cast magic without ever needing one drop of lyrium, as well use their own blood to fuel their power.

Yeah, I'm a little confused too. I thought I read a while back that one of the writers said that templar abilities are in fact a type of magic despite what chantry propaganda would like them to believe. But I guess I can't be sure about that since I can't find the exact post I read that in. Either way, very interesting stuff. :0

In the fade quest line in DA:O what would Cullen's happy place be? I was thinking somewhat on this, and I was going to say becoming a better Templar. or something similar like this?

Yeah, at that time I would think be the best Templar he could be based on what he tells the Inquisitor about his early days. Of course now, not so much.

They are supposed to be brown, but were blue in some of the promo shots because of a bug. Same with some of the other early shots of companions, like Vivienne.

DG points out that what tempars do is like magic, but it's not intrinsic to them and requires lyrium. So what mages do is still very different from what templars. You can read about it here

In essence, it's a magical ability, but it's not explicitly capital Magic. Like Cass and Solas say, it's a way of reinforcing the reality of the world and denying mages the use of the Fade to reshape the physical realm.

Sooo.... another gentle reminder that the mods are watching and have asked us to stay on topic. Particularly right now, since we've gotten a warning.

They've also been enforcing their ban against NSFW content, as you'll notice that quite a number of posts have been removed since the afternoon. So please everyone try to be more vigilant about that stuff. Like I've said before, inside spoiler tags is not sufficient. Often linking is OK, but apparently, as we've seen today, there's a line to cross for that as well. One rule of thumb is that kids can also see this site.

Finally, if bickering breaks out, the devs have asked us to just move along and stop escalating. Sometimes they give warnings to everyone involved. Instead, ignore and if necessary, use the report button.

The mods are not boogeymen I invoke to scare people; they're real. And we don't want our thread closed. Again.

Thanks for the clarification! Reading what Gaider said it does sound like they intended it to be a separate type of magic to me:

"DG: I would say that they are magic, they derive from lyrium, which is magic. The tricky thing there is that the Chantry is awfully hypocritical when it comes to magic, in that there are sorts of magic that they will use."

So it's still magic, just of a different type and acquired through unnatural means. Very curious. I really hope this is addressed further in the sequels because I keep remembering how adamant Cullen was about Templar abilities not being magic when asked. But I suppose he could have meant that his abilities are different from the main strain as well.

Eh, at this stage, I'm going with what we learned DAI. It's a derivation of magical power,  but not magic like the kind mages can practice. It's an ability set entirely held by non mages only. And on Cullen, he honestly probably is just kinda wrong there, cause all Templar powers are the same, minus the extra crap that Seekers can do (which still boggles my mind).

I would say this was the case too, but I want some suggestions because my Amell/Cullen fan fiction is geting that premise in my iPad togther..

The Templars do use blood magic to create the phylacteries and I'm not entirely sure how Tranquility works but I suspect there's magic involved in the branding there, too.  (Is it me or were the Tranquil in Inquisition suspiciously unbranded?  I just re-read Asunder and it pretty specifically referred to the Rite of Tranquility as a brand doing something to the mage's brain.)  They also rely on mages for healing and the Chantry calls them to battle for Exalted Marches.

One thought - if this is for an AmellxCullen fanfic, keep in mind what he says about her being the one thing he "always wanted but could never have." It seems he's realized every dream except the one of being with her. Perhaps his "happy place" would be a world in which his heart and duty don't conflict - one where he could be a Templar and still pursue a romance with your Amell. Just an idea.
