I would say this was the case too, but I want some suggestions because my Amell/Cullen fan fiction is geting that premise in my iPad togther..

I would generally go with Mae's suggestion if it was a neutral or more contemporary scenario, but since this is specifically a Amell/Cullen story and set back around 9:30, maybe Cullen's happy place in the Fade would be a hypothetical scenario with her? Like Alistair sees himself living happily with Goldanna and his nephews, a purely wishful thinking scenario that would never happen in his real life, Cullen could see himself in a similar impossible scenario of domestic bliss with Amell, living together outside the Circle etc, something so unlikely -at least at that point in their lives- that he could only entertain the idea in the make-believe bubbles that your dreams build in the Fade. Don't know if this works for your story, but it could create a nice mirroring effect between Cullen's dreams and the reality of their relationship later.

The Templars do use blood magic to create the phylacteries and I'm not entirely sure how Tranquility works but I suspect there's magic involved in the branding there, too.  (Is it me or were the Tranquil in Inquisition suspiciously unbranded?  I just re-read Asunder and it pretty specifically referred to the Rite of Tranquility as a brand doing something to the mage's brain.)  They also rely on mages for healing and the Chantry calls them to battle for Exalted Marches.

Actually, the Templars don't actually do the phylactery making, the Formari and Circle mages do. The Templars simply draw the blood.

As for Tranquility, it involves the use of a lyrium brand and placed upon the skull of a mage. It's not actual magic that Templars are performing.

I was more referring to the specialized templar class abilities such as Holy Smite, Spell Purge, etc, but yeap, you're right. The chantry has definitely made use of "traditional" magics to suit their needs as well. I don't think their fear of blood magic is unfounded, but it is somewhat ironic.

Eh, at this stage, I'm going with what we learned DAI. It's a derivation of magical power,  but not magic like the kind mages can practice. It's an ability set entirely held by non mages only. And on Cullen, he honestly probably is just kinda wrong there, cause all Templar powers are the same, minus the extra crap that Seekers can do (which still boggles my mind).

I think the new revelation that Seekers are granted their abilities by spirits from the fade is intriguing considering mages can also potentially call upon spirits to aid them as well. I guess my feeling is that while Templar abilities and traditional magic appear to oppose each other, there is still a common element between the two that has yet to be explored beyond what's been given to us so far.

I just hope Cullen doesn't end up being too bothered by whatever we might discover about his old abilities in the future. Maybe further research into magic-type abilities and the living properties of lyrium can make the transition from Templar to ex-Templar easier someday as well - that would be great.

Only thing you missed was Zarro running naked through the streets yelling, "My pants! My pants!"

Then ran into the Ice Cream store yelling, "My pants! My pants!"

Aside from that...been rather normal. :P

Oh and WB all all that...I would give you a hug, but I am forbidden.

Wow, I missed a lot on the thread today. I finally got home almost an hour ago and it took me this long to read almost everything, lol, and I did manage to read a little during the day (the day was long enough without a wonky wireless connection, sigh.)

Good for ya! I know what it feels to having Mom commenting on the only NSFW thing I put into Dev Art... (taken down because of her comment...)

The funny thing is, I wouldn't blink twice if I found something they'd done that was NSFW. Well, I probably wouldn't read a story they wrote that was NSFW just because there are some things a mom doesn't really want to know. :P

And the drawings you posted today were wonderful! You've got a very distinctive style.

And damn, that's a news I never expected to see. Feeling iffy about it since he's the father of my fav universe. I love all of the writers (and P.Weekes <3) but still *sadface*

Thanks, it's great to be back!

So, you guys were discussing romancing OTHERS yesterday and it got me thinking; can you make Cullen jealous in this game? I mean, a friend is asking. She's into art. And science.

I actually had a feeling Dorian might be gay (also the man is adorable) so I flirted a bit with him and Cullen didn't seem to care at all.

I now tend to think that templars and mages both have magical powers but having different sources of power. Templars got their power from lyrium which is apparently alive and the templars are then connected to something old and powerful that grants them the power to 'reinforce reality'. While mages' source of power is the connection to the fade.

I am not too concerned about Cullen being bothered by the maybe-discovery but Cole's comment on templars are changed forever by in-taking lyrium worries me...a lot...

You can make him jealous, sort of. If you have started a romance with another person before the chess scene and you choose to flirt with Cullen saying 'we should spend more time together', he would call you out: '(not exact wordings) Don't you prefer the company of XX' And you can respond him by friend-zoning him  or the-I-forget-what-it-is option.

And of course, if you are romancing others and you ask him to talk alone, he will say something like 'I thought you are...involved with someone else.'

If you're in a relationship with Cullen, he won't have any response to you flirting with others. In fact, I don't think any of the LIs have the type of jealous reactions we've seen in other games (I'm far from an expert on all of them, though). The only thing that seems to occur is other people sometimes turning down your advances once you're in a relationship, as Raccoon mentioned.

If you're playing a female, feel free to flirt with Dorian and/or Cassandra at every opportunity. They love the attention. ;)

Yeah, the flirts you get when the relationship is locked out are pretty tame, so it would be kind of weird if any of the LI's were to get jealous. IIRC in Origins it would be a more forward (or maybe not? can't remember), I believe you could actually cheat. I was way too much of a pansy to try it.

The Origins mechanics were different, yes. You could cheat... sort of. It may be too off-topic to discuss here, so for safety I'll just point towards this page for all the details.

Edit: Worried Cullen for ToP :D

I started flirting with Cassandra but had the feeling that she didn't like the extra attention  .

You'll get approval every single time (except once, but that's true for males as well). And cute smiles and such on occasion.

I prefer to put .gifs under spoiler tags because they can be fairly resource-intensive.

Though the approval ratings and responses from her are different? I think I got slightly approved from f!IQ but approved from m!IQ.

Just to clarify, since it seems there's a bit of confusion. Nudity is never OK, in or outside a spoiler tag. Posting naked  pictures inside a spoiler tag actually got someone banned. NSFW can be linked to, within reason, and should be tagged. Note also that the issue yesterday was a  link to nakedness inside a spoiler tag. Still not OK.

One thought - if this is for an AmellxCullen fanfic, keep in mind what he says about her being the one thing he "always wanted but could never have." It seems he's realized every dream except the one of being with her. Perhaps his "happy place" would be a world in which his heart and duty don't conflict - one where he could be a Templar and still pursue a romance with your Amell. Just an idea.

I like this idea and Mae's idea as well I think I can have that work with in the cofine of the story.
